Nothing fantastic or special about the hardware. It's a lesser version of the S20 Ultra's camera, a non-Samsung OLED panel, a run-of-the-mill optical under-screen fingerprint scanner, a qualcomm chipset everyone has, no microSD slot, the list goes on. It's a glass and metal sandwich with a shiny back. Literally every phone released in the past two years fits this description. Saying they have too many phones also doesn't fly. He literally just said in the video the Mi Note 10 has the same exact battery drain issue as the Mi 10 and phones with the same MIUI version exhibit the same issue. You think these phones are actually so unique that they each have completely separate software development that needs to be split up? They share 90% the same hardware and use the same basic software. If the basic software layer is flawed, then they are all flawed. One phone. One hundred phones. It makes no difference.

I've had this phone for nearing a year now, and it's literally amazing. Planning on keeping it for a few more years. I've been an i phone user all of my life before this phone, and this phone is a huge upgrade from any I phone I have ever had. The performance is literally amazing, and the ui of this phone has come so far now, and I never experience any glitches whatsoever. The display is incredible. Everytime i turn on my phone I'm still gobsmacked by the display everytime I turn it on. I wish I switched to xioami sooner, i didn't realise what I was missing with I phone.

Kia Ora Chris long time lurker - first time commentator. Great stuff you're my go to expert. I have poor eyes and mainly use my Mi Max 2 for reading books. I don't like Huawei and Samsung UIs so was wondering what happened to the Mi Max 4? Is it finished? Have you heard any whispers? Or a 7-inch tablet with call capabilities and decent ram. Also I hate the new super-stretched aspect ratios and have figured out that greater width and a lower 350ish PPII is better for me. So visual comparisons side to side are useful to see the actual screen-estate... I don't care about cameras much and can't be alone about that - someone should make a phone for big hands, bad eyes that doesn't care about cameras with at least 700 series chip (yes I realise they have camera capabilities) and stereo speakers 3.5mm jack. Long-winded I know but... Can you review the Meizu 16T as it is a few mm wider than most and how about the Umidigi Power 3 seems to have a lot of good things going for it. Regarding 8K video recording, after you mentioned the Sensor capability, I did some digging and looks like the HMX sensor can indeed do 8K. The 6K video recording is actually the max it can go with the full Field of View and I know for a fact that Camera Sensors can achieve higher resolution video than the max FOV resolution by narrowing the field of view and with the help of the SOC. That's why some IMX 586 phone can do 8K at 14 fps using SD855 even the IMX 586 does not support 8k natively. Can you check that if the 8K video has narrower Field of View or Crop compared to the 4k video recorded in Mi 10?

The standby drain seems to come like on every new Xiaomi phone, that settles itself after a few usage cycles. I did get one on my Mi 9, but no longer now, probably been about 2-3 months or so. I wonder if it's intentional, like the system learning your usage behavior during the first few days (or weeks).

Don't worry, if it is to judge by my experience with previous Xiaomi devices - Mi2, Mi3, Mi4i, Redmi Pro, 2a...) they will fix it....eventually. In the meantime, you'll going to get 20 other updates, wit fixes for things that you have never noticed...and this, big thing Xiaomi is just not finding solution to. And don't bother to ask user support, they don't know what to do...and if you try to discuss that on MIUI forum, well....good luck there. They will say you are a liar, and no one else has same problem.

That stand-by battery drain is here since MIUI 11 update. I have it on my Redmi Note 5. In MIUI 10 I didn't have this issue and I had a good battery life (11hrs). Now I have a smaller battery life (7 or sometimes 8hrs) and I regret it

Just brought my new mi10 for £290 and after completing all the updates I can confirm its running android 13 and mui 14. Well zeomi for updating i now have a higher spec phone that the latest note 12/13 pro. Zeomi are still selling this phone for £799 with the updates installed. Bargain phone just watching the battery as my note 10 was incredible battery life and charged it every 2 days

i have the xiaomi note 10 and the umidigi f1 play. i'm noticing the note 10 is using the battery more then the f1 play, halfway through the day i'm at 75% on the note 10 while the umidigi play will be at about 89% no thermal issues, fingerprint has never failed me and works better then the rear fingerprint on my umidigi f1 play

Lmao this phone has such great potential, but xiaomi being xiaomi has no thought and just releases as fast as possible, to be one of the first devices with the sd 865, which is a shame because thats what they did with my mi mix 3 5g (first 5g phone they released) and for a 3800mah battery life is poor we are still stuck on miui 10 lol android 9 ... and now that of the coronavirus outbreak, its gonna cause lots of issues, so any updates will take a lot longer for that device. However the camera is absolutely phenomenal on that device

Today I became owner of Mi 10. It is pretty good phone. And I take 67w charger. For 15 minutes 45%. Camera is nothing special. My Lg G8s have better video camera but it is ok. Good battery and good light display. Im satisfied. They offered me redmi note 12 for that money. No man. This one os much better choice😮

Thanks Chris for a honest and good review. I would add just one more sentence in critics, that it is a new phone and all those software issues will be fixed. Also camera optimisation will be better. But it is what it is at the moment. Just remember that company like Samsung had problems with first 1-2 months with S10/+, due to software optimisation. It al sorted out itself, as i do believe that Xiaomi will do. Especially battery drais and camera performance. Thanks again.

Colud you please test what the sensor is capable to do when coupled with a "proper" smartphone videography app like Filmic Pro? It has a vlog profile which should increase dynamic range a lot, and it also has better bitrates and compressions, and less "artificial" sharpening of the image, so that you can extract a more "professional" video. It would be nice to see if this phone can become a tool for filmakers on the go...

Seems like the camera despite of the promising hardware is a let down... especially in video,Ultra wide.. It needs more updates..any idea about the ultra wide sensors on mi note 10 and mi 10?

Nothing promising about the hardware. It's NEWER but that's about it. Anyone who knows remotely anything about digital cameras knows cramming too many pixels onto one sensor yields terrible results and have been preaching against it for years. But marketing gimmicks win out and Samsung (and Xiaomi) went with the marketing gimmick. It's just simple physics. Small ass pixel size (because you need to fit 108 million of them) means less light gathered and more noise when amplified. And they justify it with another marketing gimmick, the tetra/nona we can magically combine the charges of adjacent pixels to produce ONE BIG PIXEL! Nope, it doesn't work. Not with the same efficiency as just having one big pixel to begin with. No one is doing this in the professional camera space, so why would this magical breakthrough be on a phone? It hasn't worked on the hundreds of 48MP quad-bayer phones released last year and it doesn't work on the 64MP/108MP ones being released this year. The only benefit is the POTENTIAL for a more detailed image if you shoot in the full resolution 108MP mode, which yields worse images in anything but the most perfect lighting, and even then, the benefits are meagre because the color filter on top is still only a 27MP affair and most importantly, the LENS cannot support even a 27MP resolution, much less 108MP. The actual sharpness rating is probably 8 or 9MP on a cheap plastic phone camera lens with an added layer of gorilla glass on top that makes it even worse. And the poor ultra-wide? Same issue. Regardless of the sensor, the LENS is the most important part of ultrawides. Tons of barrel distortion and lack of sharpness mean cheap lenses are the true bottleneck. You want a low f-stop on your ultrawide so your lowlight shots don't look like poop? That means they are even blurrier and harder to make and cost more. TL;DR: What promising hardware?

I have the same idea like you mate. Change my bulky Samsung A70 to Iphone Xs but, I was wrong. Yes, all procces,hardware and software, on Iphone just smooth like a butter, no regret untill it comes to battery life. Oh man, used it for browsing, watch youtube, and realize the battery just going down quickly. Usually I'm charging my phone on 10 AM, and need to charge it again on 7/8 PM. When came to gaming, after 3 PUBG play game, start to find your charger. Yes, the standby battery drain is great, but usage battery drain just not fit for people who just want charge their phone once in the day

This company has too many models. Just the Mi 9 line had five versions, I think: Mi 9, Mi 9 Pro, Mi 9 SE, Mi 9T, Mi 9T Pro. Just get too confused and give up trying to compare them. Even reviewers get it wrong, e.g. Dave2D said the international version of the Redmi K20 Pro was the Mi 9T, but I think it's the Mi 9T Pro. God knows what the Redmi K30/Mi 10 variations will be.

does the 8K video look zoomed in? the 6K you mentioned specifically said 6K without loss of field of view(since the sensor is only 27MP when pixel binned, 8K is 32MP), not that it cannot record 8K video. i think that means it can shoot 8K but by cropping the 108MP full resolution into 32mp instead of using pixel binning mode to record.

i have a mi 9 se with a lot of similar bugs. when listening to voice messages the screen goes black and every morning i should power on the device because it gets shut down by itself. i think when you try to sell 20+ models per year you should keep every phone on watch and sooner rather than later everyone is going to find out about this bugs. i can't wake up early because the phone shuts down by itself at night!

Im disappointed about the costcutting they made with the Mi10 and saved the premium camera only for the Mi10 pro... But for me it doesn't worth to upgrade from Mi8

I found the same battery drain with Samsung S9 but seemed to be better when it has a strong network signal. ie by the window.

Yes I had good signal I think it was something else causing it. Mi Note 10 is the same. Yet other models don't seem to have such high loss. More like 4% or 6% Vs 9-10% on MIUI 11

My mi8 on miui used to ask to log into mi acount in order to use certain developer settings! Not very subtle, as if they aren't going to spy on you. Now it's running on a custom rom, was a lot of hastle. Not getting a Chinese phone ever!

It is, I've taken heaps of great photos with the mi10 of the moon. You just need to learn what ISO etc to use in pro mode

For my experience of miui, xiaomi has always had those typical bugs. But it has became really worse with miui 11, after i updated to miui 11 i ve experienced this, way more than before and with other new bugs that i never had. As for example since i updated it has happened 4 times that i cant scroll down de notifications bar and to solve this i have to reboot the phone. Honestly i dont know why they make this kind of updates when its clearly worse than miui 10. If i could go back id stay with miui 10.

@@Techtablets as far as I have heard MIUI 12 will be pretty major update. Probably complete visual overhaul could occur with bunch of cool and exciting features. Gradiant pattern are coming to icon and notification bar. Hopefully this will be much stable than miui 11. What are your expectations with MIUI 12?

All the conclusions regarding the camera is less valid because of the availability of Gcam. I bought a Xiaomi Mi 9T for my mom last weekend and one of the first things I did was install Gcam. It now takes better pictures than my P30 Pro, which made me realize that there's absolutely no point in spending 1000 or more for a smartphone (if Gcam is available)!
