i love the big bump on xiaomi because of its functionality, but the weight distribution is so unbalanced that it feels heavier to carry. i prefer the more subtle camera design on mate

I was a huge Xiaomi fan (Mi Mix 1 in early 2017, MI Mix 3 in early 2019). When I was in China, I checked out the Huawei Mate 20X and it was amazing. I sold Mix 3. Now it's middle 2021 and I wanted an upgrade. Unfortunately there is no other current device with such a huge screen (only foldables). I was unsure about the haptic of the new phones... So I decided to buy a Mate 40 Pro (second hand, like new for 500€). I'm amazed by all the features, especially the front camera features. I hate notches, but in this phone I can accept it due to all the advantages that come with it. I got used to the smaller screen after 2 weeks, but was unsure if this camera is "enough" for my purposes. Cause of that, I decided to buy the MI 11 Ultra (1000€) next to Mate 40 Pro. After 3 days testing, I feel dizzy 😂 Too much looking on mobile phone screens... My conclusion is, that in terms of camera, Display and compability (Google services) the Xiaomi is superior to the Huawei. On the other hand is Huawei superior in terms of haptic (I include gestures here), UI, battery and Macro shots (I need it for my job pretty often). If you see the comparison as black and white, Mate 40 Pro should take the lead - but life is not black & white😄 In some categories the difference is really small (UI, haptic, Display (please note: I'm talking about daily usage, not specs!) I'm unable to take a decision and will stay with both at first. The perfect phone isn't out yet, that's clear. The more interesting idea that came into my mind the last days is, that we should be thankful in the Android camp: We can choose between very different phones (which have the same software base), even in the high end section. Big companies will push each other all day long and we can decide, which phone is for me personally the best choice. Apple is different: You like the innovations or you need to change to a different software base. No hate against Apple, but I like the android competition much more. Some additional info : Mate 40 pro need to install microg and gspace for some apps to work and also notification Mate 40 pro can't use banking apps Mate 4 pro will have same battery life with mi 11 ultra when you add microg and gspace in your device Mi 11 ultra currently plagued by bad software optimization and easily overheat with light usage mate 40 pro can roughly reach same score in antutu when performance mode turned on mate 40 pro can use AI clear 50mp mode to beat mi 11 ultra 50mp mode but it acts like night mode which you need to hold your hand for a few second Should compare video with 4k vs 4k instead 8k vs 4k in Ultra wide camera mate 40 pro have better pixel (20 mp) and free distortion lens than mi 11 ultra buat have narrower coverage 0.7x vs 0.6

mate 40 pro has more features i guess, such as motion sensor on front camera, the ability provide and resize extra app window for multifunctionality, the eyes-on-display which hides notifications when someone is looking from behind, show always on display only when eyes are detected, and more!

@@Netajidebade really? doesnt xiaomi have tons of ads that bring malware? stock apps that drain battery? overheating and thermal throttling? poor sustained performance? poor battery life? because apps run in the background without you knowing it? huawei has great battery life. that goes to show that apps dont run n the background. watch technik's batteyr drain test and youll be surprise to see that mi 11 ultra always drains the fastest, while mate 40 pro lasts the longest among flagships!

I prefer the design of the MI 11 Ultra and especially the design of the camera bump. I also prefer the audio quality in the video recording of the M11 Ultra however, what kills any Huawei phone for me is the lack of Google apps and this includes the Mate 40 Pro. Great review nonetheless

I use the huawei p40 pro, the google play store makes no difference at all. Some apps that need the google play services to run can be done by just installing the "Vanced MicroG" app.

@@cmathieu the Uber app don't need google mobile service to run... For exemple Whatsapp, Facebook, Netflix, Instagral, Twitter works on Huaweu devices without GMS. Netflix works in FHD now on new HarmonyOS devices with the new update

I just moved from mate 40pro to mi11 ultra and early observations show that mate 40 pro had much better battery. Fingerprint sensor was also superior in the mate 40pro. I think the mate 40pro has better build quality too. If the yanks weren't scared of Huawei and didn't unfairly nobble the company Google apps would make Huawei the better phone.

@Yee Yes I can live without Google no problem, but here in the west I use some regional and international apps that aren't yet on app gallery, even after all this time. I can see myself going back to Huawei in the future though because the phone itself and the optimisation was amazing.

@Yee eBay, Argos, Santander, these 3 aren't available from third party app store and lots of other I download from apkpure and Aptoide which worked ok but updating is a hassle. There are no app notifications either for some apps. I know this isn't Huawei fault it's obvious that the yanks want to stifle them because they are too good.

I was a Huawei fan since Nexus 6P. However, Xiaomi has taken the lead. The camera bump serving the purpose of not having to turn phone around while it's on the desk - big plus. Ability to see pic before "snapping" picture - 👍👍. Xiaomi wins!
