it's just splash resistant not waterproof​ to a depth. so probably it can survive rain water or something like that in which the phone does not have to be submerged inside water.

It was not neccesary to wait 1:40 minutes for realizing that Mi6 is not a waterproof device jajaja Just look at the bubbles!! The bubbles means that the water is filling in the smartphone. RIP

Could you test under a tap or in the shower and see what results you get? Usually splash resistant phones do fail if you submerge them.

My sister done this rice thing many times with her Mate 7. Her son took the mobile and dropped it inside the washing machine lol But after she soaked in rice for about a day it worked!! So I hope yours will work :)

You have to open power off phone immediately after you drop it into water. Then open it at home or immediately if you can, plug out battery and you can also remove motherboard, charging socket, both speakers and everything you are able to. Then put everything into rice for few days and it should work. In some cases digitizer may damage and you will have to replace display, but everything else should be ok.

I have used the rice method on a Samsung s5. Pulled the battery out straight away. Put the phone in rice two days later. Good as gold.

Just to other people: If you drop a phone into water, turn it off as fast as possible. If you can't, let it go, it turns off itself. Then, let it dry for a week. Until that, at any cost don't try to turn it on! If you follow this rules there is a high chance your phone will live.

It is not meant to be submerged in water, that's why they say its just splashproof. not waterproof or something. but if the device were in the water only for a few secs i think it'd be okay.

The phone actually is mostly waterproof, but there is only one not waterproof part witch is the usb-c port, every other entrance has rubber or watertight mesh that won't let any water into the phone, exept for the usb-c charging port witch has no waterproofing at all, as demonstrated in JerryRigsEverything

hey just one suggestion, please don't use the term water proof as it causes a lot of confusion. Phones are water resistant and not water proof. btw it has a splash protection which means that it has a nano coating that protects it from accidental spills of water or in light rain. btw low ur videos ur one of the fastest I've seen. I want to make a request, could u please do a camera comparison between mi 6 and the Moto g5 plus as the specification s of the camera is quite good. and it also has a headphone jack.

I dropped mine in the toilet very briefly, was fully submerged for a second or two and haven't had any issues. Wouldn't risk any more than that though? Isn't the usual guidance to switch off fully and leave to dry (maybe in rice?) before touching it again, or perhaps that's a myth?

Xiaomi does not say waterproof, but Spill Ressistant. 2 different things. And there is no IP standard. And that is because they did not seal the Type C port. I dont know why. The other parts of the phone are properly waterproofed. But I think, if you take out the phone quickly it is just fine. or if you turn it offf and dry it, it should be fine.

Xiaomi mi 6 has water resistant but not on type-c charging/data port. They couldn't afford to seal it up. That is why it doesn't have waterproof certification ip68/ip67.

To be waterproof there would need to be some specific sealings on the earpiece, speaker, buttons and charging port. Really don't understand why they bothered with the sealing around the rear cover or the sim card tray if water can easily get in the rest. Guess its more of a marketing gimmick than anything

I think the Mi 6 is just water resistance. Splashing water or rain is fine but not completely underwater. Just like the Samsung S5. But for a phone of that price with a water resistance feature is still good though 🙂

I accidentally dropped my xiaomi mi2s in the ocean and everything was just fine. Every other phone would not have survived that! If you had pulled it out a bit earlier and dried the phone from the inside right after pulling it out it would have probably be okay. I'm still impressed with how long it held up in the water, after all it is not claimed to be waterproof!

I dropped my quadcopter drone with camera in a lake... was completely fine afterwards. pull the battery and dry with a hairdryer. the power causes electrolysis and components short or completely desolder themselves from the motherboard leaving massive unrepairable damage! but if you take power away you can wash down electronics and dry them and use them again.

Mi Xiaomi mi 3 did the same when i dropped it on water, it worked for 5 min and then died, but i managed to revive it cleaning the corrosion that build up in the motherboard and surprisingly is still alive
