Most of the recent 12.1 custom ROMs are preety much stable. If you are not fine with the customRom, just revert back to stock Android 9 and root it...you can preety much enable all the customisation you need...but 2022 with Android pie is not so great to explore !

I was using derpfest in it was good, but after some time, maybe a week and a few apps installed is pretty laggy, so I moved to latest lineage that has Android 11 and it's absolutely stable, after a week and a lot of apps Installed, so I would recommend LINEAGE OS

I couldn't get it to install from within the /sdcard. Failed on step 2, stating 'No OS installed. Successfully sideloaded the OS from the PC to phone and it installed successfully. At first the touch screen was not responding, so I restarted thye phnoe. Still was not responding. I left the ohone alone for about 2 minutes and the screen started responding. I guess there were background processes running. Otherwise everything seems to be working quite well.. Thank you so much brother.

Does the phone feel much faster and smoother than the original Android One ROM? Also, in terms of storage, is it much lighter? My 32GB version takes 16GB on a clean flash.

It is not much faster or cleaner. It is all about latest features and security patch.
