@DerpyDoge retina screens aren't that good, and a 720p super amoled isn't nearly as good as a 1080p oled panel in normal usage. Maybe with quite a bit of anti aliasing it is, but most brands don't offer that.

@DerpyDoge super retina is only supported on oled devices, it's literally impossible to not get true blacks on an oled screen. Amoled and oled look incredibly similar, the main difference is in regards to reliability. And the xr screen looks decent due to software, the anti aliasing and colour grading applied. "Retina displays" are the same as normal displays, but they're modified through software.

nah, it's actually average or below average value, it runs snapdragon 665, which impressive enough it runs way worse than the snapdragon 660, look for around that price you can get the samsung a50, which has a better cpu, has amoled but 1080p display, fingerprint under display, triple camera setup. etc. Compare this mi a3 with the xiaomi redmi note 7, which is about 130 dls, has better cpu, and has a fhd+ display, that's a steal for the price

Specially with AMOLED displays the resolution is key, a 720p ips looks sharper than a 720p amoled because of the subpixel arrangement. So in fact it will look worse than your average 720p, terrible.

@Jay Bayona amoled is a type of display panel that use LED. ips display is the improvement of lcd display. the diference between them is the brighter the screen will be, at amoled the display is brighter than ips. which mean that we will see the display better when under the sunlight than the ips. amoled also more eficient in term of battery life , and amoled produce a type of warm colour than ips. sorry for my bad english. hope answer your question

My point is, you may want to wait for awhile, and do some research. Good phones are getting cheaper and cheaper. You might stumble on a better 1080p at same cost.

If you can look past the display, it's a great fucking phone. I've been using this (typing on it right now) for nearly a year and it's pretty darn flawless. For those who are experiencing problems with the fingerprint sensor, I suggest you record multiple versions of the same thumb/finger when setting the fingerprint password. I don't look for professional photography, so the portrait mode and AI camera work pretty amazing for me. You can play moderately heavy games for upto an hour, but if you're a heavy gamer I'd suggest you to look into other options. Overall, for the price, pretty amazing phone, solid functionality and the plain ol' Android is pretty refreshing from the MIUI and other custom UI options. 8.5/10

I break my S10 and then pass on Google Pixel 3a because it's body is made of plastic. You can switch between a flagship and a mid range, especially if it is a good phone.

Update: The minimum brightness is still way too bright for some reason. You'd think they'd have a lower minimum setting for this screen. To get down to comfortable levels you'll still need to root it and set a lower minimum brightness yourself, or install a screen filter.

@@emperror85 not really. Been using the phone for about a week now, full brightness during the day and minimum brightness at night is just spotted on. The screen goes so dark at minimum brightness, that u can stay all night long on it and your eyes wont feel tired at all.

If someone like you don't want it going quite that dark, you can always adjust and set it to 5% at night or something like that.

@@void9092 - I have the XR. I read the reviews and got one. My original phone was about 1360p and was IPS, but when I first saw the "swipe up" on the XR I noticed it was much blurrier and pixelated. And when I tested the colors and contrast, they were both exactly the same, except the XR was blurrier. All the text was much blurrier, most tech reviewers tested pictures, which was fine in my experience. The funny thing was that my original phone was from 2017 and has thinner bezels and smaller notch. You can get a different phone for less that offers better quality and performance.

I think they may added animation to finger print unlock to cower for unlock time. They knew it takes time, and people would be asking what is going on with the unlock if the display just stands doing nothing, but when you put little animation, people immediately know that it is unlocking. It's actually really nice most people unless told wouldn't be able to tell, it might be 720p but the aspect ratio as well as the pannel technology (Amoled) really make it pop. It's better than my girlfriend's xr that's for sure. When I'm watching movies the colors are much more vibrant. I'd pick a 720p Amoled display over a 1080p va, ips or tn pannel any day of the week.

Despite it having a 720p screen reso, tbh.. I watching this on my Xiaomi Mi A3 and my experience with it has been great. I couldn't complain more with this phone. SD665, great with Androidone. Camera, best with GCam. Honestly, iPhone sells out with 720p screen reso and you're still loving those iPhones but criticise this Mi A3? You guys are crazy.

There's various other phones in this price segment that offer 1080p AMOLED displays with better specs and cameras albeit not with Android One. Realme X, Oppo K3 and Samsung Galaxy M40 just to name a few. They killed the Mi A3 by putting a 720p display on it.

Recently got this phone and it's fantastic, really don't notice the 720p resolution. Switched from a 1080p LCD phone and I think this screen actually looks abit better. The battery life is excellent too. Amazing value phone!
