They are no where near close in price as the Mi 4k comes in under $500 even on amazon if you do a search. Mine was $384 express shipped. You are in factory default in every setting, you can adjust pic levels..., you are set in beginners mode on your range limitations, (personally have a 2 mile flight in a wooded area), speed is upwards of 30mph and you know absolutely nothing about the drone, or your lack of knowledge about the features and settings make it seem that way. There are plenty of reviews by people who actually took the time to learn the drone and it hangs tough with the P4 and the Mavic. Just feel you are DJI biased and it shows in the review, but don't call it an honest comparison without at least some knowledge of the product you have in hand. Not saying it can beat the DJI P4 Pro you are comparing it to but its much better than your one sided review. Just my 2 cents.

This link was given to me by the company that sent me the drone to review so that's why I included it. The settings can be adjusted to make it more comparable with the Phantom series, however flying it even in beginner mode I can tell that there really is no comparison in flight characteristics. Anyone who buys the Xaiomi Mi drone will be very happy with it. The camera is good and it is a very capable and rugged drone. My videos are meant to demonstrate ease of use from the viewpoint of a first time user, so that's why everything was still in beginner mode. As I stated, the course wasn't a race, merely a place to show the picture and the capabilities of the drone's flight characteristics. So many people were calling this the "DJI killer", so pitting it against the P4P probably wasn't fair. That said, Xaiomi in my estimation has the best chance out of all of DJ I's competitors, to eventually catch up and become a true rival for consumer drones in that market. Did yours come in a factory box?? The ones at Gearbest come in an unmarked brown box? I got mine at Banggood and it was a factory white Xiaomi Mi box. I don't know why Gearbest has a seperate box but I have also noticed that the ones with out of the box issues seem to be mostly from Gearbest and are in the unmarked brown box. Just curious as to the ones on Amazon.

Gearbest doesn't have a different box, per se. The brown box variants are the 'international / US plug' variants. The normal Chinese plug versions come in the official white box packaging. I've ordered two (in Scotland) and both have been in the official box. Oddly enough one came with prop guards and no wifi dongle, whilst the second came with a wifi dongle and no prop guards. Regardless, purely from my own personal experience I think you'd have to be mad to stump up for a DJI costing 3-4 times as much (£300 for Xiaomi vs £1200 for a P4P) UNLESS you require the absolute best image quality, smallest footprint, customisability and support, which probably doesn't apply to 90% of users out there. The only comparable DJI product is the Phantom 3SE, which still costs 1.5 - 2X as much.

Mine came from banggood with us plug in white factory box. I have yet to see one from Gearbest in the factory box, but I don't watch a lot of unboxing. I know all the latest from Gearbest with US plug we're in brown box, (ready,set,drone, Dustin dunhill, Ken Heron...) But theirs all worked good for them too so.... Nothing to complain about

Hi Ken, New subscriber here, I have the XAIOMI MI Drone 4k and I can assure you that it goes a lot further than the 500 metres you where saying, you can change that in the menu you had that in beginners mode, I've took mine well over 2km's I love my Mi drone it does exactly what I want it to do and it takes great video also, you can also remove the overlay on the main screen so that you get full screen, I wouldn't buy a DJI product clearly because of the people i've seen having problems with them because of the software, anyway great video of the two drones I know within myself I made the right decision to go with the Mi drone 4k also ken try putting a faster SD card in there because I don't get any lag what so ever when I fly mine...have a great day :-)

I'd be interested to see if Ken revisits the Xiaomi drone review after little more time spent with it. Some of the cons / complaints of the drone are purely due to user / set up error. The complaint of range is purely the default app restriction of 500m which is easily adjusted (refer to 7:57 in the video which shows the distance at 499m) and the complaint of the lack of horizontal speed may be due to the 10m/s default setting in the app (although the footage shows Ken maxing out at only 8m/s) which is, again, easily adjusted up to 16m/s.

I flew the Mi 4K today for the first time and I was very, very impressed with the way it flew and the potential that it has. I did not find it to be slow at all! On the other hand I am not a P4 owner so maybe I just don't know what I'm missing speedwise! Very predictable and stable. Decent shots without any work on calibration or changing settings on the gimbal or camera yet. I noticed the squeaking noise, but no shaking (in the video or in person). I hear a similar squeaking sound when flying the AOSENMA CG035. I do not hear that with the Spark drone or any DJI drones for that matter. I think its pretty solid with the price its even more attractive! Are you going to get a chance to do more videos with the Mi or was this a one time thing?

FYI: the Mi 4K will do around 35-38mph, which is slightly slower than the P4. However, 8m/s that you could see in this video shows that some setting must have been turned on, because that's only half of what it will actually do.

The oscillations are caused by incorrect tuning of the PIDs. This means the Mi drone is over compensating for the wind and it is doing those corrections too many times and over correcting at the same time. It is not effected by the props, incorrectly balanced props would cause lots of jello opposed to oscillations

Hi Ken, just a minor correction. The DJI P4P doesn’t have a rectilinear lens. It just uses software to correct it later. If you look at a true RAW file you will see plenty of the fisheye effect.

Not a fair test. The Xiaomi Mi drone has a default beginner mode that limits ascending speed to 4m/s and cruising speed to 6 m/s and range to 500m. Once you have 300 minutes of flying it will allow 6m/s ascending speed and 18m/s cursing speed and will have a range between 3-4km. Please do another comparison review after 300min of flight time.

Yes, I have had the Mi Drone 4k for 4-5 months and for the price there is really nothing that comes close. Is the P4P better? From what I hear and read, absolutely, but they are aimed at totally different markets. Ken Heron was far from fair in his review and didn't even attempt to show the Mi Drone 4k's features. G/day Ken. Greetings from OZ. Ken, I don’t think you have been fair in this comparison. You have been operating the P4P as your drone for eons now and have it set up how you like it but the opposition (can’t spell it) is new in your hands. I am sure the Showme is not up to the P4P but at half the price (not $700) it is worth looking at. The P4P is king for sure (my grandson has one and wow) and one day my pension will allow me to have one. The short range and camera deficiency I am sure could have been improved with some fettling in the app. Regardless, I will continue to be very happy with my Mavic. LC yep i knew from other vids it was still in beginner mode..i believe u have to fly it once for a orientation period before u can take it out of beginner mode.And I think a few people in the comments have figured out the "Dji Killer" part of the Xiaomi 4k..it kills dji drones in PRICE, unless it's a p3 standard. It makes a 4k drone far more affordable than almost 2 grand..and with that, 400 bucks kills the sh** out of the p4 pro and I think a Mi 4k would be perfectly suitable to use professionally 👍

I am tempting in getting the MI drone just because I have a dji standard but at $450 for the Mi is not a bad price... in fact it is one of the best 4K drone under $500 dollars that you can buy now. The second option will be the phantom 3 SE but cost $100 dollars more than the MI. $500 is the maximum I can spend in a drone.

One reviewer says you must accomplish a certain number of hours before it'll let you go full distance. Also it can be bought for under $425 not $700. For less than half the cost you can "almost" have the DJI. Looks like a winner to me. Video looked great. Of course I can balance the props and learn the app to save that much money.

Ken, there's a lot of errors in this one but it's OK I"ll let it slide ha ha Don't take the corrections below as a negative I love your work and you were not to know with that beginner thing - it gets everyone - don't use the cable unless you absolutely have to(ancient phone or tablet etc) , there is no lag for most people and infact there's even the option of accessing the second video stream (not documented) on another device at the same time. It seems a few owners on some versions of Android had lag issues - that's an Android and drone thing ha ha. I have never used the cable on either android or IOS. For screen capture IOS 11 now has that built in so I avoid the android mostly. -You don't need the phone at all to fly the drone, controller is fine -You had it in beginner mode hence the slow speed and limited range. Typically with LOS you can go up to 4km with out any battery concerns on the returns, Speed with beginner mode turned off in settings is 16m/sec and 18 m/sec in Atti - thats fast !!!! -The drone operates on the 5Ghz band only which is not that common but it's relatively interference free apart from a few a few 5ghz downsides -Updating, if you choose to do so does not take 20mins at all unless you had some crazy bad internet access, This is something that you would of course do when you first get the drone but then it's just like any other drone , It's not mandatory either. -The whistle noise is not out of balance props either its normal on all of them and other brands too, think of it as some happy birds enjoying the drones presence. The shaking thing on yours though is strange -it folds up really flat too so you can stuff the thing in a backpack and that gimbal can now be used on a very Dildo like handheld gimbal thingo that's just been released which might interest a few It not a DJI 4 pro killer 3 advanced.... maybe a 4 standard on par but I don't think that was the intention. It's lacking all the obstacle avoidance sensors apart from the ground one and also 4K 60FPS, this one maxes out at 4K30. There's no option (yet) of any ND filters either It's cheap and the spare $$ that I now have is being spent on a Mavic but this one is a keeper and the two will make a great team M

3-4 Kilometers is quite ok for that quad. Maybe you were with the beginner mode enabled on the app. There is a serious issue with the new batches for the Mi Drone in which almost all of them are defective like the camera, motors or the whole thing.

First time watching one of your reviews. I agree with other comments, you didn't do enough ground work to understand the Mi before you flew it, you could have at least watched other youtubers reviews and then yours would not have been so inaccurate. It's a shame as I enjoyed the humour and presentation but content way missed the mark for accuracy or comparison, (which was the objective of the video according to the title). Personally if I was you I would redo the video and include true capabilities because I can't subscirbe yet if your content is so inaccurate, oh and it does come across as a Dji bias because of the unfair comparison, a cursory glance at this video and you'd think,,the Mi can't make it past the house or the flag, not realising it can go about another 2.5-3k further!

Hi Ken, you must of been in beginner mode, I have seen this drone go a far greater distance, also with the new firmware there is some camera settings, my friend purchased this and it cost about £280 delivered to England , for the price it’s a decent drone, I also understand it has some autonomous features, perhaps you should give this bird another go, I have the P4P amongst others lol regards. Ready Set Drone also reviewed this drone and yes you could hear the same whining noise.

+SJM The Drone Flyer Yes, I did have this drone in beginner mode. I was flying it over water and it was an unfamiliar drone, so as this wasn't a race just a demonstration, I left it in that mode for the flight. JAS Aerial that's right. I've never heard anyone seriously claim that it's a p4 killer. It's absolutely a p3s killer, but a fair comparison would be with the p3se. Comparing the mi to a drone that's more than twice the price is simply a redundant exercise

+JAS Aerial As always glad to do it Jeff! Yes, the Xaiomi drone is closer in capabilities to the Phantom 3 series. The battery life is Lacking as well. I fully charged the battery and let it sit in the drone for just about 30 hours and it had drained to 85%. That's not very good power retention at all.

Ken Heron just on the power retention. The Mi battery starts to discharge after only 24 hours. Unfortunately it's not a setting that you can change as with DJI

Thanks for the video. I don't think this is a fair comparison. You indicated that you have flown this DJI Phantom many many times, you're familiar with how it works, and your confidence level is pretty high. In contrast, you're flying the Xiaomi Mi 4K for the first time (but still you were able make a decent flight and obtain a good video footage). The comparison doesn't sit well from my viewpoint. I strongly believe that you should consider redoing this video once you have spent as much time familiarizing yourself with the Xiaomi Mi 4K as you did the DJI Phantom. It would be nice to see the side by side comparison. I have been meaning to purchase my first drone and thought about purchasing the Xiaomi Mi 4K. After this video, I am not so sure. I would love to buy a Phantom 4 but my budget would not allow.

You do know you’re comparing a $900 drone vs a $400 drone, right? Not a “little bit more expensive” but rather more than twice as much. With that in mind, is there really more than twice as much value in the Phantom 4? Also the Mi Drone is NOT $700 as you suggest in your video. A quick Google search might have informed you. I have to suggest that you know both drones at least reasonably equally well before you suggest you’re offering any kind of fair comparison. The size of the screen issue and the max distance are just two examples of errors presented. And again not sure you could suggest a fair comparison when presumably you’ve flown one of the drones dozens of times. And the other on a maiden flight? Didn’t hear anything about the changeable parts on the Mi Drone (camera and gimbal) vs not on the P4. Didn’t hear anything about the ability to reuse the camera and gimbal in a handheld device. Didn’t hear anything about how the Mi Drone can fold to a smaller space than the P4. The lag of the wifi dongle on the Mi Drone - do you have data to back that up the assertion? Looking for more range on the Mi Drone? Hey, have you seen actual flight tests that demonstrate superior Xiaomi range? Fair vs. bias videos tend to be more helpful and informative. But thanks.

Certainly Phanton 4 pro is a different level, but Mi drone range and speed limits can be removed in the app. The real range is somewhere between ine and two miles, and the top speed is 16m/s. Not bad at all

Soooo ken.. there are sites like banggood and gearbest that stock the mi drone for around 399 usd. It fluctuates between 370 and 450 usd generally, 700 sounds a bit over priced for the product. At 700 I would say...helllll no ..but at 399? This thing is amazing. And I do think you missed some things with the mi drone, for instance it comes default in a beginner mode that limits altitude and range and speed. But I'm not gonna get my bloomers in a bunch because of that and p4 pro is better hands down any day. The dynamic range, sensor quality. Stability and intelligent flight modes are all better. Thanks for the review. I think I want the mi drone for my Christmas. Well, mostly cuz I can't afford anything else. Lol. So if u want to be my secret Santa and send that thing over to my door..much appreciated . :P

This is one of the most biased uninformed videos I have seen. I like your videos even though I don't own a Phantom. I remember watching one of your videos that showed a terrible problem with a critical part in the controller and didn't see as critical review as this unfair video. You are the one that called it a "Phantom Killer" and from this point tried to prove your point. One of the things I constantly read about the Phantom is all the firmware updates, almost to a fault. You complained about all the firmware updates for the Mi 4k, great improvements and don't tell us over the life of your Phantom how much time you have waited for all firmware updates in total. Is the beginner mode a pain? Yes! Was your Mi 4K still in the very limited beginner mode? Yes! Did you tell us that? No! I guess you can tell I own a Mi 4K and have never owned or flew a Phantom, but I can tell you that this video is very unfair. Also the MI 4K is much better looking than Phantom. To say they look alike is funny, yes 4 propellers and landing gear. Like all cars look alike. So if I want an unbiased review of anything other than DJI is will go elsewhere.

I also have the Mi drone and I can assure you it's better than what you where saying, you definitely had it in beginners mode and I definitely don't get any lag on mine what so ever...like I said would never buy a DJI based on the software problems and I have friends that complain about it also..i'm so glad I bought the 4k version well happy with my mi drone :-)

You can change video settings in the settings, you can turn off the limits under the beginners mode which if you wanted it will give you a mile range. the top speed can also be adjusted in settings and mine gets 30 min flight time. you can also use dual channel FPV goggles and monitors with the drone and your screen video you can go full screen too. you can upload flight plans as well. Also, I have no wobble issues or squeaks from mine either, I get very stable flight even in wind up to 20 mph, the sonic sensors do a great job keeping the drone in place even at 300 feet. This has follow me and Orbit as well as many other features. Live map, auto flight, auto return to home. Also, Mine is one of the new versions with 10x PTZ 4k UHD camera.
