Nonsense!! A few stretch marks are not going to so horrify the Emperor to the point that he couldn't work one up for the Great Qing. I don't believe it. Hailan's self consciousness would make them both uncomfortable. I think he actually likes her company. The Royal Stud can take a night off once in a while. @@ganondorfdragmire9855 I don't think it was that she disliked the Emperor as much as she loved Ruyi more. When he went to Hailan on Ruyi's birthday she didn't sleep with him out of loyalty to Ruyi. The other women would have been all over that. Truth be told I don't think he expected to or wanted to. Each just helped the other keep up appearances. It is only logical that Hailan would have to serve the Emperor to remain in favor in order to protect Ruyi. Something had to have been worked out.

She was always looked down on because she was so lowly. She chose to win his favor because she realized that was the only way she could survive in the palace without RuYi's assistance.

In the book which RRLITP is adapted from, the tampered medications did much, much worse to Hailan - she bloated and grew enormous, and I recall ""her face was the size of a dinner plate" to be part of the description. This is one of those times where adaptations have a hard time keeping up with the source material, because they couldn't really just swap actresses for Hailan pre- and post-pregnancy.
