This game is so dark and edgy. I think some of the KO screams are genuinely bloodcurdling, as if the voice actors were seemingly getting hurt. I think the most bloodcurdling ones are Chun-li, Mr. Karate, M. Bison, Sagat, Shiki, Kasumi, Vega, Tessa, Geese, Zero, and Demitri.

Apparently that was the theme the developers were going for. There is a manga I believe that goes into the back story that all the fighters in the game died or their souls were taken and the tournament is being held in like purgatory (hence why the stages are so gloomy and desolate) and the prize is reincarnation . The hidden bosses also reflect this with goddess Athena being the heaven side and Red Arremer being hell. Matt McMuscles did a really good video about the game's creation.

This does explain why in the bad ending of the game that the character you picked is reported to have been "Never seen again." Either because they've become an animal and blended in with other animals or they're lost in hell as a demonic entity for eternity..... This game really has a brutal bad ending now that I think about it... Especially with how damn near perfect you have to play the game in order to get the character's true ending.
