There's a chance that LQQ will never understand. He's too close to the problem to think about why XL did it, instead focusing on his actions.

In the books, I think he does eventually understand and reconcile himself to it. After several months away, he stops seeking revenge against Xie Lian, and even shows up to help when Xie Lian is ill. They're obviously never going to be close again, but he manages to put the blame where it belongs rather than pinning it all on Xie Lian or the people of Xianle. After all, in this clip, he had just found out that his closest friend was a traitor and a murderer who hated him, that Qi Rong was the mastermind behind killing his parents, and that Xie Lian had killed his father for a noble reason. Even one of those would be hard to process, so it would only be expected that it would take him some time to think about and accept. It's not said explicitly that he comes to understand while still harboring negative feelings towards Xie Lian, but it's implied.

@@easolinas1233It wasn't just "killing his father for a noble reason". His father himself said he is not going to survive this. XL just sped up the process. In my eyes, he didn't kill him, he just ended his suffering 🤷🏻‍♀️

I love this scene because is the first time we see Xie Lian mad and out of control. And I actually enjoy watching people who hasn't read the book react to this and think the same things I thought when I saw this scene reading the novel. Because they first present us a calm, understanding character, who tries to find pacific solutions, and one would think he is always like this, but then you learn he is not, he has pain and battles inside him, and a past you still don't know. And after I completed the novel, watching the story again, reminds me of everything I got to know reading the story, and reminds me why Xie Lian will always be one of my favorites characters. So I invite people to keep watching the series, or read the novels, because I personally loved this story.

100000% agree. I love the character development he goes through, and rereading or watching after finishing it makes it even better knowing what all happens. Like I honestly was not prepared for how dark it got based on how sweet his character is portrayed at the start.

I love this scene because it remainds me of that quote and make you realise that Xie Lian is only peacefull because he choose to be, only people with power and danger can choose to be peaceful, otherwise you are not peaceful but harmless, and this is the first time in the show we see a glimpse of how many power Xie Lian hold back to remain peacefull, because he is in no way harmless, or were in the past.

This is 1 of those situations where I see HC as 100% right. The truth is important. Not because of what it changes, but because the right people pay for the crimes they actually committed, and he will only pay for his own crimes. It doesn't matter if he can't die. Pain still hurts, and HC hates seeing him suffer for things he didn't do, even if he volunteered. Even if the other guy never accepts the truth, at least he has the chance to know it. What he does with it... at least then he makes that decision with the truth. Why accept being hated for so many things he didn't do? It won't gain him allies if people are too busy believing the self-deprecating lies that he said to begin with. The look on his face as he sees XL breaking down, though... He's worried about him. How do you support the 1 you love when they are talking like that? You can't agree with them and feed it. I can imagine him thinking exactly that while he was listening. He's trying to think about what he needs and part of him... doesn't know yet.

Xie Lian killed His Majesty because he was going to order death upon all XianLe people, so he did so to prevent that. Both Qi Rong and LQQ's "friend" equally holds resentment towards Yong An considering the past between their people. XL wears the mask because he simply didn't want to be seen or known. (As far as I remember/know.)

In brief, Xie Lian wore a mask because he was somewhat recognisable as the former Crown Prince in case any records remained. I think this was only a few hundred years after. Qi Rong and An Le masterminded the murder of the royal family, along with dissidents from Xianle. The show implies Qi Rong took control but he didn't need to, there were always dissatisfied people among the Xianle remnants but the majority wanted to move on and have peace. The king did his best to be tolerant, but harboured doubts about the Xianle people. The slaughter was too much after years of standing up to all his courtiers pressuring him to be harsher, and in his grief and rage he ordered the deaths of all remaining Xianle people. Xie Lian killed him to prevent those orders from being heard and carried out. But also so that Lang Qianqiu would never know his dad went back on his noble ideals, so he could continue believing his good intentions toward Xianle were reciprocated. Which they were, but you can't expect someone to so easily put aside the deaths of their family. And it worked. LQQ was able to blame Xie Lian, who he didn't know was from Xianle, and finally genuinely united the two clans. Xie Lian never wanted him to know that some of the people of Xianle murdered his parents, who had such good intentions. So now he worries everything he taught LQQ about taking care of his subjects, caring for his people, is undone and that LQQ believes it's all lies about the world. From the manhua 'I wanted him to do the right thing forever, without fear.'

ahh that makes so much sense, so later on lqq kills xl? is that what the coffin scene meant, but xl is much stronger, did he just let him kill him :(@@KaiseaWings

Well at the risk of spoilers, he killed the king because the king ordered all Xianle people killed because LQQ and QR orchestrated the slaughter. It was kill the king to protect the innocent Xianle people or let the king tell LQQ and watch his people die. And XL wears a mask to hide that he's the former prince of Xianle would be my guess. I don't think I ever saw it in the books but hopefully if I'm mistaken someone will let you know.
