Xiegu X6100 Firmware Upgrade & WFView Setup

Hey everyone, it has been a very busy August!
Today I will be showing you how to upgrade the firmware of your Xiegu X6100 as well as setting up wfview. Wfview is an open-source software that allows rig controil and a bunch of other features mainly with Icom radios but now it will work with the Xiegu x6100 using the IC-705 configuration.

Thanks for showing this procedure. At 12:50 another dc connector can be handy, but take care: sometimes there is metal at the tip which can cause a short. The original connector is non- conducting.

Yep, the X6100 is HORRIBLE when it comes to birdies. They move around and sometimes are worse than others. Some nights, just by luck, the frequency I am interested in is not effected - where in other cases, they can be so bad that the radio is almost unusable. A few nights back, I was trying to listen in on 40M and every frequency that I found in use that I was trying to tune in and monitor ( FOUR DIFFERENT FREQUENCIES ! ), were ALL plagued by nasty heterodyne tones which were INTERNAL TO THE X6100. This was easy to verify because in each case when I removed the BNC connector the signal went away - BUT THE NASTY INTERFERENCE WAS STILL THERE. The X6100 is also VERY EASILY TO OVERLOAD both from strong adjacent signals (for example during field-day ops or from strong local AM stations) - so overall the receiver is just CRAP. Also the supposedly big-deal WFView server upgrade is ALMOST WORTHLESS, because the built in WiFi is HORRIBLE and won't give you reliable connections beyond a foot or two from your router - SO ALSO CRAP. The X6100 does have a few nice features, like a nice big clear color screen, and the the built in Antenna Tuner and SWR scanner -- but honestly, the RX is CRAP, the WiFi is CRAP, the Bluetooth is CRAP, the built in battery is CRAP (and not even user replaceable) -- so long-story-short -- until Xiegu releases a replacement which addresses all these problems - STAY AWAY FROM THE X6100 - IT'S GARBAGE. When it comes to birdies and self interference, the Xiegu G90 is much much much better (so Xiegu knows how to do better) and I hear that they are working on a replacement to the X6100, which they claim will having WORKING remote WiFi control and Bluetooth (and hopefully a better, cleaner RX). Even when Xiegu does get around to releasing whatever the followup to the X6100 is - after their terrible record with the X6100 ( with all it's NEVER WILL BE FIXED issues) - XIEGU IS JUST NOT TO BE TRUSTED - so I strongly recommend that before you plonk down several hundred dollars, Euros, or Pounds Sterling, of your hard earned cash on whatever X6100 followup Xiegu releases, make damn sure that ALL the features you care about are working FIRST - - as verified by HONEST reviewers like QST and the Sherwood List.
