so...ballas hated orokin because they killed margulis so he planned his defection for who knows how long and made a pact with hunhow and then joined the sentients? Then this dax soldier (umbra) who just so happens to be his old friend started to suspect him and started spying on him and when the dax intercepted one of his transmissions to hunhow ballas made his move and turned him into a prototype warframe to silence him? and to break him not just physically but emotionally (I don't know why he has to do that) ballas made him kill his own son? am I getting this right?

+Trevak D'hal. Well, Space Marines in 40K still do have families, with some Chapters even having frequent contact with their families. It's just that most of the time Space Marines are meant to forget their biological families in exchange for camaraderie in the Chapter and loyalty to the Emperor. Also, it's implied that Ballas just killed off the rest of Umbra's family, then capped it off by having Umbra kill his own son.

What I understand is that Umbra is not the prototype, because when that Dax found out Ballas's betrayal, he already created the link between Frames and Tenno, and he made the empire rely on Tennos to fight off enemies, and then betray them by giving that secret of tenno-warframe link to Huhhow which made Huhnhow decide to send Natah to infiltrate the tennos and eventually lead to Orokin's downfall, which is exactly what Ballas wanted. He injected the Dax the infestation virus to make him a warframe, and to silence him. But somehow, unlike other frames, this Dax's memory wasn't completely erased and gone crazy, which became a Excalibur Umbra. So it seems to me that, Umbras are warframes who had something they couldn't forget so not even the tennos could tame them until they find their acceptance. Basicly all frames were umbras once until they were tamed by tenno and become primes.

Nah, Margulis is dead, Natah simply took her place, she always remained conscious of who she was. Yeah she did try to protect the Tenno and basically be their mom, by lying at basically every single possible turn, but she's probably realised that all the past secrets are coming afloat and we won't be under her for long, so yeah, open war from now on?

I want to say no the topic “will other frames have umbra” my guess is this because umbra is supposed to be the darkest point of a broken frame. One so hurt. The only one like it with such power yet such pain in its existence. Cmiiw, Lotus was a sentient being since the beginning. She was tasked to destroy Warframe. Lotus lived by Margulis's memory fragment, which slowly 'corrupt' her and therefore failed to do the task (protecting instead of destroying) But I don't know why she also take Ballas as her dearest, even after what Ballas did. Does Lotus change her side?

The umbra warframes are call backs to the Dark Sector game, where it was the infestation that made the tenno/warframes. Ballas had made a pact with the Sentients, who were the first orokin creations to turn on the orokin. The umbra are sentient hunters... this is crazy fun lore bombs

Accurate, to a degree. Dark sector isn't "canon" to warframe. However, they carried over the concept that warframes are vessels created by infesting ancient masters with a specific strain of infestation and controlling them enough and suppressing their minds using a tenno's link to make them puppets.

I went into this quest at like like MR6. Died so many times I had to cheese it with Limbo. Hated every second of it. But getting (totally not) Excalibur Prime made it worth it in the end. (Seriously though Umbra is basically just DE giving everyone who isn't a founder a chance to have an Excal prime. Which I am definitely not mad at.)

Basis, Umbra frames were the first warframes, created by infusing Dax soldiers with Infested technosite. But because they were made from real people, they retained part of themselves, and they retained the insanity drawn by watching their loved ones die by their own hands. This is why the Umbra turned on the Orokin. As a result, the Orokin found that the Tenno could control warframes and use them in battle effectively, so the orokin set out to build new warframes that didnt require people at all. Thus creating the Tchnosite and robotic hybrid frames of the primes, which was followed by the non prime frames developed by the lotus after the fall of the orokin.
