When I first heard of the World Eaters and their Primarch, Angron, I dismissed them as a rabble of one-note berserkers, mindless with bloodlust and utterly useless for anything other than carnage on a massive scale. While that description still rings true for the most part, (especially in their modern, corrupted form) the more I learn about their history, the less inclined I am to dismiss them. In fact, out of all the legions that turned traitor of their own volition, (I don’t consider the Thousand Sons to have been willing traitors, at least not at first) I would say that the World Eaters and their Primarch are the only ones who I truly sympathize with. An army of men who were physically superior to any mere human, yet at the same time were irreparably damaged in psyche. A legion that lived every waking moment in agony that would shatter a mortal man, yet refused to acknowledge their own suffering and would never seek nor accept pity for their tortured existence. The World Eaters may have been barbaric savages before the Heresy, and to describe them as anything other than monsters in their present form would be gross dishonesty. But a part of me cannot help but respect, or even, to an extent, admire them for what they once were.

it's a damn shame that the emperor threw his son in the cargo hold of The Conqueror and told the 12th legion "IDFK, you figure it out".. Angron COULD have been taught if he had only been shown the same courtesies his brothers got.

@@bladestormviking The same courtesies his brothers got? I do not think his brothers would have been afforded the courtesy of being allowed to tell the Emperor to fuck off. Once the nails were deemed impossible to removed without killing him, the attempt should have been made. At the very least, agreeing to install them in the entire legion should have never went forth.

If the Emperor thought it was a good idea to keep monsters like Angron and Curze around, what must the 2nd and 11th Primarchs have been like? They were probably completely corrupted by Chaos, or worse, female. The horror!

Xune in fact...he didnt think it was a good idea. It was necessary. It is highly douptable that, if the horus heresy had not happened, all the primarchs and astartes would have "survived" the aftermath. The Thunderwarriors are an example of a tool that was not longer usefull at a certain point. Thinking of the Emporer as a loving father is a mistake. The astartes are warriors and their primarchs were warrior kings, nothing more, nothing less. Yes, the Emporer was looking for a way to genetically enhance humanity...but the astartes or the primarchs were not it. He referred to the custodes as that what humanity could become. The pinacle of evolution. But the custodes are not warriors or soldiers in the first place and that is the big point.

More likely, they would not follow orders. Imagine a Primarch taking his Legion out of the Crusade and fortifying systems for his own use, or a Primarch who would not engage in 'Pacification' of human-controlled worlds. Defiance of His will would be the fastest route to oblivion.

KaelisRa81 I’ve always wondered about this? How would the emperor get rid of the Primarchs and the legions? Unless he created something within the gene seed to kill them all remotely. There’s no way Leman Russ would kill all the other Primarchs alone. Thoughts?

I always find it funny, that you can recreate something of the lost Primarchs and their legions. By the hole they left in order of battle and specialty they would have filled. Because said holes remained after their passing.

Ok something that has bugged me for the longest time is why were the world eaters so brutal. As far as my understanding goes angron was chill before he got his brain mutilated, he wasn’t genetically pissed off. So then why would it seem like the world eaters are genetically predisposed to carnage and bloodshed. I mean, more than the usual amount.
