The battle is obviously what dominates conversation but the rest of the episode was really good too. Daemon’s visions, Alys’ proper character introduction and the uncertain weirdness that comes from her, Aemond effortlessly showing superiority over Aegon with “their” language he barely speaks, Larys and Alicent, Alicent seeking the prophecy in old books, Aegon’s fidgeting in the council, the backlash to Rhaenyra from her council over last week, Rhaenys realising who Allyn’s father is, Lorent Darklyn learning his father was dead, Sunfyre being so happy to see Aegon and Aegon showing genuine happiness to see him, all of it is just SO good. The actual on the ground setpiece was so well set up, the combat between dragons was as brutal as it was visceral and the devastation of what a battle between dragons looks like was properly expressed with the charred survivors, the ash and the breathless coughing from Criston. It knew exactly how to keep you enthralled by what you were seeing by the scale and brutality of what they were able to accomplish. It’s probably the best battle scene in this universe since Watchers on the Wall, and arguably even gives Blackwater a run for its money. In my opinion the reason why Rhaenys doesn't get burnt is simply that Aegon panicked and ordered Sunfyre to open fire to early it also seems from the clip that Sunfyre fires into the wind, Rhaenys has the sea at her back and therefore probably also the wind, again this just shows that her experience weighed so much heavier in her favor even against Vhagar. I also agree that she turns back in the hopes of killing Vhagar before she becomes a threat to her granddaughters, she also just saw just how far Aemond is willing to go to achieve victory and hoped to stop him here and now.

It's always these little changes that make the show slightly worse than it could be. Making Aegon a pathetic little man (TGC said they tried to make him look ugly in season 2, and then the quote from this episode) feels wrong, considering the good work Tom is doing while they try and undermine his character. Also Sunfyre is CRUCIAL to the Dance, a parallel to Syrax and literally being the face of the Green banner, and the fact we didn't get a second of him and his relationship with Aegon before today is something of a travesty considering their states going forward. Yes, I know that they get moments later on, but we had a minute of them at their 'best', Aegon drunkenly swanning into a dragon fight like an idiot, bwfore they were mangled by Aemond.

The people who are complaining about the changes to the battle don't understand how much more sense it makes that Aegon is alive from this battle. In the books when Meleys and Sunfyre were entangled and Vhagar falls on them. That should have killed both Sunfyre and Aegon. At the very least it should have killed Aegon. But this sequence is so much better where Sunfyre falls from the dragon fire and you can see in that moment when he is falling he tries his damnest hard to not crush Aegon. The way he cradled him around was so beautiful then in the books where Aegon actually fell from the sky and landed on himself. This seemed more logical than the plot armour George RR Martin gave Aegon from the books and it also gives such meaningful power to Sunfyre's bond with Aegon.

It seems that there is 'some' immunity to fire in certain circumstances. Dragon fire in particular. Dragons produce fire. But how? Is it combination of their biology and magic? I don't have the answer, but it was interesting to note in this episode that when an injured dragon 'bleeds', it seems to scald. If the 'blood' of a dragon is flammable, and it bleeds on itself- or another - then perhaps this 'fluid' can then be ignited. R.I.P. Meleys and Rhaenys.

I genuinely felt for the Dragons in this episode. I was literally screaming during the fight. I just couldn't. 😢 And when Meleys turned to Rhaenes and "spoke" to her before they turned back. 😢😢😢😢

if the Sunfyre & Aegon duo has a million fans, then I am one of them. If the Sunfyre & Aegon duo has ten fans, then I am one of them. If the Sunfyre & Aegon duo has only one fan then that is me. If the Sunfyre & Aegon duo has no fans, then that means I am no longer on earth. If the world is against the Sunfyre & Aegon duo , then I am against the world.

Ok hear me out, that far up in the air, it colder and the air is thinner. It doesn't have to have anything to do with dragon genes. What happened to Rhaenys in sky was the dragon version of walking on coals, you could get hurt, but only if hold still.
@CA-bw9vw4 ай бұрын
My problem with Aegon was never that he's incompetent, OF COURSE HE IS nobody trained him to be king ffs. It's very difficult to forgive someone who not only rped women, but also left his kids to endure destitute lives and fight for people's entertainment.

Aemond was in hiding twice with the dragon. Waiting in the forest unseen. Seems to be a tactic that was repeated later, just waiting

They didn't give Rhaenys and the dragons more screentime, I mean sunfyre and meleys should've given more screentime during the first three episodes. Instead, they drawned us with Daemon's stupid dreams. RIP my queens😞

I always love it when fellow book readers act like that is not a story but a fact compared to this version. This series has its own tweaks. It's just as legit of a story. Don't act like a child.

@@Joe-ss9cr in the same episode we talk about 80 years of peace we then talk about having to go back to war. It logically doesn’t make sense and it doesn’t add up historically. Rhaenys never went to war. That matters to the story.

So Aemond is f*cked when Aegon wakes up, he tried to kill his brother/king and got Sunfyre hurt Aegon will be out for blood. But can Aegon kill Aemond? The Green Cause does not exist without Vhagar, she’s basically unstoppable so therefore Aemond is irreplaceable and the most important piece on the Green’s side of the Board. Could Aegon banish Aemond? Forbid him from returning to the Crownlands and just tell him to do stuff, or would Aemond rebel himself, creating a Third Faction: The Sapphires?

I got the impression the fire wasn't right on her. Didn't touch her. But it obviously would have still been hot hot hot where she was. They may be fire or at least heat resistant, a little, but not fire-proof or immune. Danny is another story. The show obviously shows her as fire-proof. Dragons shoot fire through her, she burn down the Dothraki temple.

I didn't get the "experience" part when it comes to dragon fights. How are any of them experienced in that kind of warfare? They are the only ones who do have dragons and this is the first time there is a civil war within the targaryen family, right?

i think Vhagar makes Aemond feel invincible. attacking his brother and weakening one of the only dragon riders on your team was not smart. He must think Vhagar can’t also be tag teamed? this loss can’t be good for the greens.
