This video just saved me. You're amazing. That stupid ring was the worst part. I was ready to buy a whole new washer.

Your video will help anyone who decides do this themselves. The only thing I will add is the part that I ordered from Amazon came with a tool to spread the last spring that goes on and that sure made a difference, worth the extra few dollars. And it includes a pair of gloves. Thanks for your assistance!

I actually only came here for replacing the retaining spring in the outer seal and you are the first one to actually show where it needs to go and how the seal itself aligns. Thank you! Also thanks for confirming that it is the worst part lol. I didn't take washer apart completely but did take the door off to access the stupid water filter, and of all of it this spring is the only difficult part

Scott, you saved us! Thank you for this thorough and excellent video. My husband used it to replace ours, and it was pretty painless. Another tip, as a rewatched your video, I labeled small clear bags, step-by-step to put the screws in so we knew what order and to what part they went with. So appreciated it.

Thanks !! followed to the letter, even the drink after! For the ring at the end, i pryed open a little one end that holds the spring, and had my two kids hold the ring around and used long nose plyers to put the spring back in . Worked like a charm in under 5 mins! Suscribed to your channel for future help, Cheers!!

Video is excellent. Very clear and easy to follow! For anyone struggling to put the boot back on, I used a blow dryer on high to heat up the gasket which made stretching it a bit easier. Also helped to have a 2nd pair of hands to hold it in place! Wasn't easy but don't give up, it's doable.

This video helped me out so much! My dryer is stacked on top of my washer and i didnt really want to take out all the screws of the top and front pannel to inspect it and see if i needed to change it, but after taking bottom pannel off i realized the secondary Spring on the back side of the Washer Boot wasnt even on!! It was just free hanging!! Im 90% sure thats why my washer has been leaking from the door for soo long. There are very very minor tears in the boot so i dont think ill replace it but with the front wire off of the boot and the bottom panel off i was able to tighten the secondary spring with a small screw driver

Good video. Total time for me from start to finish was 1 hour right on the nose. Use a small amount of dish soap on the bottom 1/3rd of the rubber seal when re-installing the wire spring clamp.

For anyone struggling with the spring loop, ductape. Put the loop on, tape over the seal and wrap it inside as I want through I taped more until I had a lil bit left and used a screwdriver to flip the rest on. It was quick compared to using brut strength
@christophercondrat53712 жыл бұрын
Your suggestion to use the duct tape helped a bit! It kept that damn wire from popping out of groove and/or causing the lip to slip off the edge as I pulled the wire/spring with locking pliers and used the screwdriver.

Your video was sooo helpful, I have the same Maytag washer and it was a breeze to install, I am pretty handy but I gues I can call my self a appliance technician 😂. But seriously anyone can do it. The worst part was having to put on the ring across the door, you definitely need 2 people!! My hand still hurts from doing it.

Great video. It took me about 5 hours but I did a few other things while I had it apart like replace the water hoses and improved my dryer vent connection with a trip to Home Depot. I suppose it would have been 3-4 hours without the distractions. That front spring loaded clamp is tough. I used my knee to hold the spring in place at the bottom. Then worked my way around the loop until I got to the end near the spring and then used a LOT of force to pop it in place. Whew!

Use a clamp to hold the spring and a stew driver to stretch the other end while fitting the wire around the front drum.
@werdevo62 жыл бұрын
Yes, these boots are problematic for producing holes as it gets older, especially if the washer is heavily used. After replacing the boot for the 3rd time, and soon after, developed another leak which trickled water from behind the bottom concrete counter weight, during the high speed spin cycle. I tried several times to pinpoint the cause of leak with no success and lived with a, not so good, working catch pan. During my last attempt to locate the leak, I found it to be coming from the rubber soap dispenser tube which pushes through a hole at the 10 o’clock position on the plastic drum(see video). During the high speed drain cycle, a lot of water travels up into this area and leaks through this loose seal/connection, probably due to the constant vibration, tugging, and possible rubber shrinkage, due to age. I fixed it by cleaning the surface area and applied automotive rubber silicone around the inner flange area of the rubber tube and snapped it back into the drum hole opening with adequate curing time before usage. Buying a new rubber soap dispenser tube would work the same.

Dude... I replaced my boot because the machine was leaking. I actually took the lower counter weight off (getting it back on was fun). I thought I was leaking at the 6:00 position, but thats where the water might just have been collecting. I took the thing apart three times, thinking I didn't get the seal on right... its still leaking but with no visible damage to the boot or outer drum... im going to take the thing apart again one day this week and see if its that soap tube. Im gonna owe you a beer if it is!

@@HouseInProgress no joy. The outside of the soap dispenser tube is bone dry after a leaky wash. The water seems to be coming from the lower part of the door boot... right where the drain holes are. Its like its not making a good seal, you can actually see moisture under it. Ive put the boot on like 3 times now and cannot figure out how the water is getting thru :(

Hey mind was terrible too with the black mold stains, but I soaked in a 2 or 3 table of swimming pool cleaner call shock. It's 2 or 3 kind I use 58% of bleach that way it can soak all nite but 70% is 6 to 8 hrs but definitely not all night it will rid anything organic and dirt comes out looking yur new light Grey powdered look so I wipe it down with vinegar rinse an followed that armored all.

The spring clamp was miserable... what worked for me was to start at the spring and work around till the clamp got tight, then use a flathead to pull the spring out, while also keeping it against the machine, and work the rest of the hoop into place.

Can clothes rip because of a bad boot? I have clothes coming out completely shredded lately. Also why do you even need to remove the overhead top panel?
@pbservano2 жыл бұрын
The last step where you install the spring. Disconnect the spring from the hook. Using a long nose vise plier. Grip the spring at the end and reinstall to the wire loop. Ensure you have a good hook at the end of the wire. This will require a lot of strength to stretch the wire. But I think this is the fastest way to reinstall the wire spring assembly.

The boot seal I ordered was missing the rubber sleeve where the vent tube goes into. They must have cut it off. I tried to rig it up but I’m not 100% sure the tube will stay in there. This is so irritating.

There is a spring expansion tool to put on and remove the metal wire ring.

Given the level of frustration this can cause, This is probably the easiest and best way to do it, even if you buy the tool only for this task. Only about $14 too.

Question please help. I took the gasket out cleaned it well(it was so filthy) i out the gasket back on, on the inside. Clamped it down, but the sping deal on. Then i out the outer spring on. But it was only washing half our clothes. I think the soap tube or whatever tube that releases water.. i think that it shoots water into the maching but also inside of the gasket. I fucked with it but it wont seem to be in the right spot. I wonder if i should out a dyi scrap type of peice so the water goes where it needs to. I cleaned the trap out to and found socks and quarters. It was hella dirty. Long story short i did pretty much everything you did except that soap/water dispenser seems to be shooting the water in the machine and inside the gasket. Has anyone else ran into this?

I have the same washer as in the video with the same problem, your video helped greatly, thanks, also I ordered the Boot from Amazon and the Up and Down Tabs were marked wrong, the holes on the Boot go Down but the Boot was marked as Up....one more thing after fighting with getting it stretched on the rim, I used a little plumbers grease and it went right on, Don't use Vaseline as in contains petroleum and may damage the gasket
