The Exposition Universelle of 1900, better known in English as the 1900 Paris Exposition, was a world's fair held in Paris, France, from 14 April to 12 November 1900, to celebrate the achievements of the past century and to accelerate development into the next. It was held at the esplanade of Les Invalides, the Champ de Mars, the Trocadéro and at the banks of the Seine between them, with an additional section in the Bois de Vincennes, and it was visited by more than 50 million people. Many international congresses and other events were held within the framework of the Exposition, including the 1900 Summer Olympics.
Many technological innovations were displayed at the Fair, including the Grande Roue de Paris ferris wheel, the Rue de l'Avenir moving sidewalk, the first ever regular passenger trolleybus line, escalators, diesel engines, electric cars, dry cell batteries, electric fire engines, talking films, the telegraphone (the first magnetic audio recorder), the galalith and the matryoshka dolls. It also brought international attention to the Art Nouveau style. Additionally, it showcased France as a major colonial power through numerous pavilions built on the hill of the Trocadéro Palace.
Major structures built for the Exposition include the Grand Palais, the Petit Palais, the Pont Alexandre III, the Gare d'Orsay railroad station and the entrances of Paris Métro stations by Hector Guimard; all of them remaining today, including two original entrances by Guimard.
Music: Borodin, String quarteto n.2

When I see something in black and white I always feel a sense of detachment, as if it wasn't really real or as relatable. But seeing it like this in colour makes it feel real, relatable and vibrant and I could see myself there. Great work

For me, I have a hard time picturing the past in colors because of black and white photos and videos, so it‘s really nice seeing them colorised.

Just imagine that this architecture in the video is still untouched today with all the modern elements hidden inside those beautiful buildings. Would've been a wonderful experience to see when traveling to Paris. What a shame. 😔

Those building were basically almost all made of metal and plaster, they hardly survived the time they were supposed to last (a year).

@@mysticjc That's what they would have you believe anyways. "temporary structures" .. "every city needs ruins"... total bs. These buildings represented something, and even had electricity technology which could not be left to stand.

It’s crazy how well built and magnificent many of the old structures were and that without the use of modern equipment.

People cared and structures were built to inspire and last. Now we have all this modern machinery and we build gaudy metal and glass monstrosities that aren't meant to last.

@@pomponi0 Nope. It would say in the title if it's stabilized. Look at the whole catalogue and follow the naming scheme. And it's not like I'm asking much from modern tech. I've seen original footages from warfilms. Cameras are mounted to fighter planes and I just want my camera to stop shaking while I move.

These buildings you see in the video are pavillions. In particular in this video you are seeing the pavillion of the land and see forces of France, after that there there's the creosote pavillion from Schneider (an advertising pavillion), and after that just right before the ending the navigation pavillion. There were all other amazing buildings in this massive exposition, but do not be fooled: the majority of them was made out of metal and plaster, and could hardly last more than the time they were supposed to last (a few months). But nevertheless they were designed and decorated by the most famous artists and architects of the time, and each country was supposed to present and prepare their own pavillion, so it was like being able to travel across the world in a span of a few kilometers.
