I live in the vicinity of Kyoto ,and they still maintain much of old culture. I especially like seeing people walking in Kimono, traditional festivals, old wooden buildings and traditional artisans working. Most of them have retained their businesses about for 100 years. Atmosphere of the such areas reminds me of the time the capital was relocated in 800s from Nara as if I was in the time period. As petty information, Tokyo(東京) means "The East Kyoto". Anyhow I'm grateful someone spots on not only modern cities but my historical regions.

Why does the music always turn so tense and menacing on these films?? You have a lovely idyllic scene of some deer and it sounds like they're all about to turn on the humans in some kind of deer zombie apocalypse. Like, chill with the over-dramatic piano.

Thank you for sharing this video, so interesting. I am Japanese. The description of the video says "annual parade celebrating Japan's victory in the Russo-Japanese War", but the procession from 6:52 is my impression of a "funeral procession". There are so many Buddhist monks here, and on the right side of the screen at 7:24, you can see the kanji "御霊前", which is a word used at funerals. "御霊前" means "before the spirit of the deceased." It also has some features of a funeral procession, so it looks strange for a victory parade. Would you mind showing any information resources of this video?

After searching, I found some new information. The "parade celebrating Japan’s victory in the Russo-Japanese War" is from 4:32 to 5:18 in this video. From 6:52 , it's certainly a funeral procession. A KZbin video entitled "Picturesque Japan (1907) | BFI National Archive" is exactly the same as this one, with some additional explanations and video titles.

The oldest Japanese person alive is Fusa Tatsumi, born on the 25th of April 1907, probably around the age of that baby at 7:16, I can't comprehend being born in a place where they use hand-pulled rickshaws like the video above and experiencing modern Tokyo. I’ve lived in Tokyo since 2005. While the cities have generally changed beyond recognition at first glance, many traditions, customs and ways Japanese approach things are similar to how they were even back in the Heian period. It’s so interesting, what makes me sad is that the architecture is nowhere nearly as thoughtful as it was, the surroundings are rarely taken into consideration and incorporated into the buildings these days.
