I totally agree with your description. I only just recently played this game. It's undeniably one of the best 8-bit games out there. Way ahead of its time. Shame it never had an official release outside of Japan. Anyway, nice upload. Kick-ass arrangements. Long live Fuma!

Played it back in the 80s. Out of all the Famicom games, I love this one the most. It seriously needs a kick-ass remake. The original has aged really well though. I'm still having a blast playing it on emulator. Hideo Kojima would be my top choice for directing the cut scenes.

I played Getsu Fuuma Den way back in 1988 - 89 on the Famicom. It was really epic back in the day. I first didn't understand what to do since it was in Japanese. I eventually got the basic gameplay and played through trial and error. I also got stuck several times. I didn't know how to get to the last boss after getting all 3 swords until someone told me how to get there.

If you look at her other artwork, there are some that took place in feudal Japan and I thought the dark look of those match perfectly for Fuuma's dark world. With Fuuma's design, I was thinking she could draw him similar to Richter and Maria in Castlevania HD, a design that almost completely matches the original and doesn't really change nothing (just compare these two side by side with their Turbo CD designs). Yeah I agree she killed Simon but also Alucard, his hair is black not blonde.

Yeah, I never understood why Konami never made a sequel to this gem of a game. Well, Fuuma appears as a cameo in a lot of Konami games, but that's just not as good as having another game with him as main character.

Personally I think that X68000 Simon design is the best. Chronicles Simon was alright, save for his hair color. Which is kinda funny, because Fuuma has red hair. In any case, it'd be interesting to see Kojima's design of Getsu Fuuma, I was always a fan of her artwork. Also, coughJudgmentSimoncough.

I think Ayami was hired so that Castlevania would have an official series artist, like Final Fantasy or Mario, which is possibly why she was used so much. I actually like DoS & PoR's art style bcuz they both remind me of RoB & I liked the bits of humor (well mainly in PoR). OoE's art was so nice that I think the same artist should be used again to draw Fuuma. Shanoa is cute enough that I'm curious to see her real life model (a dev team member's wife) but damn Laura is hot too.

As one of the many people who recently played this through an emulator, before Fuma even appeared in CV:HD, I have to say, Konami needs to remake or make a sequel to this one. Have Ayami Kojima do the art, of course in the same style as CVHD where everyone looks like their original designs, make it hi-res 2D, and use these arrangements or something close to it, make it fun.

That could possibly work, I don't know of his other character designs besides Sgt. Frog and Otomedius, but I know he designed Angol Fear from Soul Calibur IV, and her dark tone fits well for a remake. However If Konami actually makes a remake, they should find an unknown artist instead just to save money. But if I had to pick a dream artist to design a remake, other than Ayami Kojima, it would have to be Yoji Shinkawa.

Yeah her characters tend to look the same at times, but I figure she would be great at drawing the dark Japanese folklore/fantasy world of Fuuma if not the character himself. @somacruzfirm I don't know about fans getting used to her style but that new Castlevania logo, the one from Lament of Innocence that turns the C into a half moon, is overused. I miss the logo from the first game as well as the one used for HOD & AOS. I just hope that somehow a new game from the original universe pops up, & I hope it's not fighting game, a Pachinko, or Radio drama.
