The thumbnail made me think of this again, but I think Luka to the Lakers in a few years is much likelier than people think and people should expect it, for reasons Americans don't get but which I'll explain here Kenny. As much as I would absolutely hate it, I think it's the likeliest outcome. Thing is he grew up as a star player in the basketball wing of Real Madrid. Real Madrid is the Lakers of soccer: lots of history, extremely about glitz and glamor and prestige, their players are celebrities, had a ton of the all-time greats throughout their history, the Lakers type of entitlement over every star, expectation of Showtime entertainment, etc Luka's love for flair and difficulty and extra-ness is very core to soccer culture, both in general* and especially for a team like Real Madrid soccer where their stars are expected to be entertainers and the fans boo teams who win while playing a boring style of football and fire managers for not playing a sufficiently exciting style (and gave the star player of their biggest enemies a standing ovation after he had an amazing game where he had Madrid's own players in a torture chamber because it was super fun to watch). NBA fans seem to have an issue with players being entertaining just for its own sake, but it's the other way around in soccer where fans have an issue with players who dont try to entertain people and delight fans or bring joy to the audience Its hard to understand unless you know of soccer culture but its not like the other European greats like Jokic or Giannis or Dirk who played for random teams. For kids around the world who grew up with soccer, being the star player for Real Madrid made you the most famous athlete and celebrity on the planet. And the late-2010s Real Madrid soccer team were a particularly star-studded and dominant team even by their standards. He would've been hanging out with celebrity athletes and he wouldn't have fit in at Real Madrid if he hadnt been someone who liked the glamor and prestige and wanted to be able to entertain the biggest audiences possible. Being THE star for the Lakers and turning their fortunes around and getting to entertain a crowd that valued Showtime fun is exactly that in basketball terms *The most celebrated players in football history are the guys with a ton of flair and entertainment value -- one of the most famous stories about a soccer great is that Garrincha dribbled past a whole team, was at the empty goal, and instead of kicking it in he waited for a defender to recover just to beat him off the dribble again and score, which is the kind of audacity that's talked about in soccer 50 years later but would get you a ton of hate among NBA fans. Harden would have been one of the most beloved players alive if he'd had the same playstyle as a soccer player
