I was running pidgeot, cobalion, swampert. My opponent was running steelix, virizion, tapu fini. I was hard punished with virizion after safe swapping cobalion, but I got the farm down with pidgeot. I was counter swapped again by tapu fini (in the 2 shields still) when I brought in swampert. After burning the clock with some risky hydro baits I stored and eq and swapped into pidgeot. They countered me with steelix, but I quad debuffed them and saved a brave bird. I got the snipe with the eq on swampert and used the brave bird stored on pidgeot to lay waste to the tapu fini. Greatest hard counter overcome of my ultra league battles.

Just get a fighter. Cobalion or any fighter can demolish it tapu Fini cares very little about it's dragon pressure . You have top meta picks that destroy it already

@@omarholder9036 Cobalion and Fini both get countered by Jellicent. Every pokemon has it's counter, the problem here is how cheap breaking swipe is, basically rendering SE moves neutral given a Steelix safe swap. It's OP, and likely going to get nerfed by making Breaking Swipe give a chance at debuff as opposed to guaranteed.

I hope you are wrong . I’d rather them take it away from it. Because a nerfed breaking swipe will greatly hurt ML Rayquaza & unlike Steelix, Ray is glassy and needs Breaking Swipe as is to be viable.

The only logical way to nerf it is by making it do more damage and increased energy like how they did to Seed Bomb. At most they might probably make it like a Icy Wind clone so it does not get out of control. Unless they want to make it stronger as well but more expensive like Lunge then it really depends on Niantic's decision. Best counters for Steelix in the UL is any Steel Types that has super effective damage against it while not being weak to Earthquake such as Tapu Fini / Escavalier / Empoleon, but pokemon that also perform well such as Cobalion / A-Sandslash / Poliwrath / Buzzwole. You also have to think about the other type coverages as well and since Water is a good offensive typing because of Charizards as well any of these fine picks should do well as you also have to watch for Giratina/Cresselia comps too. But if you dont want to see Steelix at all, just run a triple comp that hard counters Steelix completely like Virizion/Swampert/A-Slash which should do well against most pokemons. Sure no team is perfect but if you want to hunt Steelix then go for it make the battles a 3v2.

Isnt double night slash into dragon claw just better? Each nightslash does about 13% hp and the dragon claw does 24% so in total about 50. Each Obstruct does about 4% and a double debuffed dragon claw does about 30%. So in Total less than 40% In addition with nightslash you have the chance of a boost

@@fischerprojektion1735 It is pretty mixed views tbh, some people might feel that the Night Slash may not be enough to KO with the Dragon Claw play, the player probably gambled on trying to get the Dragon Claw to finish the match but they miscalculated the damage and costed them the game. Sometimes its all about strategy and calculation, they assumed that -2 Defense on a Dragon Claw would KO so they tried to gamble on that chance, the safer option would have been 2 Night Slash into a Dragon Claw but might be worried Dragon Claw might not do enough to KO but this also really factors in if the Obstagoon would have had enough damage as well to close the match. If you look at it from a viewpoint they tried but it was just not enough to KO Poliwrath from that HP Range even with Night Slash. Poliwrath would still have been able to survive with that same amount of HP as DragonClaw without the defense drop would only do a shy of around 15% HP or so which was just short sadly but if the NightSlash gave a boost on the first one then they would have won that match 100%. They tried but gg to the opponent.

If you are running a less bulky team, nonshadow works better. Shadow if you want the extra damage or do not have any fast move pressure.

I have 2 shadow steelix that i haven’t leveled up yet, is it worth it to keep them shadow or should i purify? I could either have purified great league rank 91 and ultra league rank 134, or shadow great league 73 and ultra league 68. I see the non shadow is ranked higher on pvpoke, but i would hate to lose out on the shadow if it’s actually better since they’re so hard to come by

It really depends who your other 2 pokemons you are running as. If you are running a pokemon that is very bulky aka does not have fast move damage like Cresselia/Registeel then Shadow is recommended. Non-Shadow is only good if you need the extra bulk for your team, Shadow is more preferred for more fast move damage if you lack any or just want more damage.

Niantic definitely made a huge mistake giving this thing Breaking Swipe. Haxorus and Rayquaza aren't OP because they're glassy and need the debuff to level the playing field. Steelix is too OP. Tapu Fini will become more common to counter the rise of Steelix

Shadow Steelix is such an absolute MONSTER! So expensive but so worth it! I love the shadow version of it as it still maintains its bulk while having that oppressive fast move/debuff pressure! GGs from earlier, that’s my bad. I was nervous and was waiting for a job interview and missed a Lock On by accident! Love the showcase as always!

I was kind of happy with breaking swipe being exclusively on glass cannons, this kind of sets it up for being nerfed in the future which would suck because Haxorus and Rayquaza were finally having a good time. Could be one of Niantic’s biggest move update blunders yet.

The thing with Steelix is even if you are in a poor matchup for a safe switch, even if you lose or get hard countered by like a Virizion/Cobalion/Swampert etc, you still win by debuffing the opponent assuming they do not switchout immediately. If they stay after your Steelix goes down then you lose switch advantage but you also get to farm down the opponent as well if they are low enough. Even in shielding scenarios as well if you trade shields with the opponent like a Swampert, it will be too low HP to even do anything as you just do so much damage while being able to take 2 Hydros into 3, just an absolute monster this season and really only hard counters is just running triple comps that beat Steelix if you want to have a chance but not really recommended. Swords of Justice pokemons will be seeing more play but Virizion may struggle a bit depending on some pokemons with Aerial Ace buff this season but still a good a good pick to deal with those annoying Swampert spammers.

I use a 14/15/15 Steelix nonshadow it performs well. You just don't expect as much bulk in certain scenarios but overall should still do fine.

See everybody keeps talking about how good Steelix is, qnd while yeah its really good, everyone I run into is useless as a Ground type. They all run breaking swipe and psychic fangs so even though it's ground type I generally do well with electric types like dedenne. Maybe it's a low rank thing.

XL refers in this case not to the size of the Pokémon, but the "XL Candy" required to boost the mon's CP past level 40. You typically need a lot of them in order to max a mon like Steelix up to its top CP for Ultra League.

I really love your videos a lot, it’s one of my main sources of entertainment but I do wish you would use different Pokémon and teams more often cause most of your videos consist of basically the same Pokémon just re packaged into different teams. There is a lot of other mons that people would like to see how well they perform. I know the point is to win and some might not feel comfortable using mons that aren’t well known in the Mets but sometimes we wanna see mons that no other KZbinrs or relevant players use. Steelix definitely coulda used a buff but Breaking Swipe on it made it just overpowered, of all move it gets the best move in the game. Leaf Blade is the cheapest and the hardest hitting move, but Breaking Swipe which does neutral to everything but 2 types on top of being a cheap move and also dropping attack each time is just too busted you can't argue about how balanced it is.

Im on a 10 game win streak with Aurorus lead, Golisopod safe swap, Buzzswole Closer. Ive faced like 3 Steelix leads with Cresselia or poliwrath in back and won convincingly. The X-scizor buff been sooo goood

Golisopod is such a nice addition this season as it just ensures you win against Cresselia much easier and also hit harder against Virizion. Very nice to wall off Water types and Fighting moves. Buzzwole is also great because of the flexibility it has as well. Running PuP makes Steelix not hurt you as bad but also loses out on Superpower nuke. Nice team you have!
