A buddy of mine once said, "unless you really enjoy paddling, I'd skip the first two waves of any set at Ocean Beach if I were you."
@adrianwoods77204 жыл бұрын
I will never forget Dec 30th, 1989 at Ocean Beach. Super easy paddle out that resembled a calm, glassy lake in between sets and these big 6 - 10 ft swelss that looked like bumps that came out of the west and turned into A frame barrels.

Always amazed that a beach-break can hold such a massive swell without turning into a close out fest. Thanks for sharing your waves with us my friend, Semper Fidelis!

Those are some scary waves! I got sucked under when I was 7yrs old & that ocean yanked me out of my dad's grip. I've never forgotten the force & power. If the water reaches my knees, I get scared & run back onto the beach! Haha! Love watching the surfers- awesome video!

SSF in the house!!! Hey Ocean Beach is no joke! You have to be a very experienced surfer and strong swimmer to mess with this break! You always hear of some poor guy girl or kid who's drowned playing in this surf. The undertow is severe. Use extreme caution when surfing this spot! Hang 10!!!
@toddhendricks17273 жыл бұрын
Believe it or not this is where I learned to surf. My mom worked at the VA and would drop me off a Kelly’s Cove before her 12 hour shift. I got nothing but beatings in the water for a year. Back then it was less developed and homeless guys would have campfires on the beach and no one was around. Talking 1978.

The scariest part about this place is the ridiculous paddle out. No thank you. I hate that feeling of finally making it out to the lineup and your arms are already too tired to even stroke into a wave
@surfsquatch54 жыл бұрын
Anyone who even tried to make the paddle on this day has my respect. I took 1 look and said no way in hell
@justink72694 жыл бұрын
You need a paddle machine, ob surfers roll a big pinned out 8+ ft board that paddles 10x like a regular board, and can knife through a big whitewash (no duckdive, you just hit it face on at full speed) and then it's just a hard paddle for 15 minutes but if you dont give up you'll make it... usually. My daily board there was at least a 6'10 and I'm from Santa cruz and down there guys surf 6ft boards but you barely get your hair wet paddling out to most spots
@surfsquatch54 жыл бұрын

6 minutes? what on a jetski? haha I reckon even the top guys battle for 20+ mins easily to get out. you can just tell how heavy it is and just no easy way out
@benlucchese73752 жыл бұрын
6 minutes would be a miraculous paddle out. It can take ten minutes on a chest high day sometimes.
