What shifter fork goes on which shaft? Should - Be on counter shaft and + on primary?

Oh man it's been a while and I'm bad at explaining transmission stuff without it physically in front of me. I thought the +/- markings are for the adjustment process if I remember correctly. They alter the alignment left or right.

Sorry lol also bike is boxs boxs of parts so just looking to slap together kinda to see if motor runs drill it completely out back side or leave bolt out ?? Thanks previous owner said ran before tranny blew apart from improper assembly

I'd try and drill it and re-thread since the transmissions are a known weak point. There's a lot of rotational force on the transmission and trap door already and I wouldn't want to risk it leaving 1 of 4 out.

hi there from england .... any idea if the bearing on the mainshaft needs to be enclosed ... the metal seal on the bearing on mine has corroded and i'm thinking of trying to just remove it rather than replace the bearing

If it were me I'd replace it, only because their 1) not that hard to swap, 2) not crazy expensive, and 3) I'd rather have a fresh one in there as the whole shaft relies on the two points of contact. I don't know how important it is since the primary/trans share fluid so I think it should be okay, but don't quote me on it. Good luck with the build and thanks for watchin!

Hey im bout to install trans on 78 ironhead anyway my question is the bolt thread at 6'oclock position in side the case is broken and gone think i should drill with like a 12" bit clear out the backside of case then run a really long bolt serving trans trap door or just ignore it

I would try and straighten it out for sure. Ironhead transmissions are definitely not the strongest design by any means. I've had a few with blown up cases or exploded gears. I'd try and drill out the old one and re-thread or helicoil so you know the fastener is grabbing proper. Good luck!

I hear that. This case was welded in about 8 places from a buddy that I trade work with regularly.
