Manuela Rickers was one of the most amazing guitarists of the eighties. Everyone in this band was superb. So great to see this.

Vaughanie Yeah, That was such a great era of coolness. Music, costume and hair. And labels like 4AD. And I’m amazed I wrote my comment eight years ago. Time is jetting. Thanks for pulling me back to look at the clip again. I would have guessed I saw it originally a few months ago. 👁

I saw them twice in the Markthalle/Hamburg and I can tell ya there was a helluvalot more action and dancing going on. Also we in the audience were mostly wearing black and the whole atmosphere was much darker and the lightshow was really great. Munich is just the wrong city for punk, postpunk, emo, new wave, gothic. They are too conservative and happy go lucky there.

Edison Vieira John Peel was very trend setting in the UK and pretty much any band "he championed " would become popular. Xmal were excellent live and on record. Clearly S and the Banshees were a huge influence. The 1980's were a golden age in some ways 4AD label had some truly great bands like Dead can dance and Throwing muses and some good ones like X Mal.
@julosx7 жыл бұрын
Anja said in a interview that they never knew or listened to the Banshees. They were pretty much into Joy Division instead. And XMal sound formula was quite different from the Banshees's since they had a full time keyboard player.
@keithbate94057 жыл бұрын
Having seen Joy Division live ditto the Banshees and X Mal I am surprised by this comment . Maybe true but I see little similarity between X Mal and Joy D. The former were to more punk noise whilst Joy D had both noise and on tracks like "love will tear us part " great subtlety Liked all three bands and still do but Joy D made music that "is immortal" the other two did not..
@julosx7 жыл бұрын
Allow me to disagree. Good music is immortal, therefore the Banshees (in their best moments that is) and XMD certainly are just as much as Joy D. And to be honest, I'm still much more into XMD than into Joy D. because I find XMD's sound a lot more modern and richer, more *evolved* as the band moved away from its early minimalism. The difference between _Fetish_ and _Viva_ is striking in this aspect.
@keithbate94057 жыл бұрын
"all music is immortal " that might be your opinion but I strongly disagree ! . Most of the music from the past is not played by people alive today . Once music passes out of living memory it is pretty much forgotten. unless it has merit that enables it to passed down to forthcoming generations eg Beethoven, Mozart pass this test as do the Beatles your comments re ABC are irrelevant to me as I did not rate them much at the time and do not know. They were better than some of the pop stuff around in the 1980's eg The Thompson twins that's all

May be at that time this music was not considered as dance music... And, at a concert you have 2 types of behaviour : people who come to see & hear the band perfomance - those dont dance - and people who come for the "atmosphere" who often dance.
@Idontwantahandle66693 жыл бұрын
The only people who danced were the posers in the clubs. You didn't dance when you saw the bands live, that was "lame". Notice how nobody in the crowd is playing dress up and they all have normal hair? That's because that look was only meant to be a stage look, and the people who tried too hard didn't get that, so they dressed like that too. What you see here is the real deal. All of those club videos you've seen we're just gatherings of the lame asses.
@thelivingend Жыл бұрын
@@tricosteryl this is so completely wrong, a lot of the audience doesn’t seem very invested at all - I’d say the people who dance here are the biggest enjoyers

Yep. Orient, and the whole of the "Fetisch" album, could easily fit in the first two Banshees albums (The Scream; 1978 and Join Hands; 1979). So it's good to see that at least somebody in Germany thought this particular Goth niche was worth the trouble of bringing to life their. Anja Howe, Fiona Sangster, Manuela Rickers, Manuela Swingman and Wolfgang Ellerbrock were more understated, and kept the original early (late 70's) Goth movement alive. Thanks Anja
