I actually didn't know you could just run around without shooting any of them. Given that I am, for some reason, a bad shot in Resi games, I have some hope now of surviving this bit when I get around to playing it.

The shock when discovering that Mike has never successfully parried an enemy attack in this game. < The realization that this means Mike has probably never even attempted to push the parry button when playing this game. I only say this because it is actually really easy to parry enemy attacks on standard difficulty as the timing is extremely forgiving.

I'd argue that having her go first was a way to give her some time to get out of scared mode (without breaking out the aftercare kittens). Much better for her focus and her baseline heart rate (she'd have been on edge while Luke played, then have to worry about the villagers *and* the time).

I remember in the original you could wait out this sequence by going to the watchtower, climbing the ladder, then turning right around and hopping down, rinse and repeat. The enemies would always wait for you to get to the top then throw molotovs up at you instead of following you up, so the ladder was completely safe. Althouh ideally you wanted to take out both of the chainsaw guys that could spawn to pick up some early rubies.
