For me the Arturia Minifreak is the perfect first synth. It provides different oscillator engines, all controllable with 3 knobs. You don't have to understand how those engines work and instead play with these knobs and learn by sound. It provides a super simple to use sequencer and effects so you don't have to buy those (which you usually don't own if its your first synth) and it has a plugin that can be used stand alone or to control the synth (also perfect for your first plugin). Not only that: Arturia provides extensive video tutorials and free preset banks. The plugin also has interactive tutorials where you learn each feature interactive by playing with them and getting explanations (this is so amazing for beginners). And they provide new updates all the time with major new features.

Either the minifreak or the Roland JDXI - the JDXi has more sequencers but less sound shaping options, but for a beginner, less knobs can be a good thing. The microfreak seems a little too condensed for an absolute beginner, but I might be wrong.

I don’t know much about synthesis and I’ve been about to make some wild sounds just by tweaking presets. I love this synth.
@Xanaduum4 ай бұрын
@@sickbeatsproductions6664 the minifreak is pretty cool when it comes to synthesis, but the sequencer is a bit disappointing, the mod touch strip kind of makes up for it though.
@sickbeatsproductions66644 ай бұрын
@@Xanaduum yeah the sequencer is not bad for what I use it for. I just program a loop and then start tweaking knobs until I get some weird sound and then just match the tempo to fl studio and record it in so I don’t have to actually play it live lol
@Xanaduum4 ай бұрын
@@sickbeatsproductions6664 definately good for that. 😀 Can be a bit frustrating trying to get the sequencer to record a melody and have it sound the same as how you played it on this synth. But once you have it, the little touch mod strips are a joy to use for modulating the sequence. Need to get more to grips with the step recorded modulation and the matrix, but I always learn mod matrixes last on synths that have them, can be annoying at first.

Thank you for the time and energy you’ve put into this. Extremely helpful for someone like me who just got the Minifreak as his first synth and is at the beginning of the music producing journey. Much appreciated!

Thanks for the great video ❤ I have a question regarding the LFO that someone might me able to answer. Is it possible to adjust the phase of a waveform, e.g. a sine wave? I would like to offset the waveform so that it goes into the negative part first but haven’t yet found a way to do it.
