XP Pen Deco 01 v2 Review & Speedpaint

Wow 2 videos within 1 week, that's a lot for me...
Here's my first tablet review video, I reviewed the Deco 01 v2!
I won this tablet in a contest hosted by XP Pen USA and SuprDee2.
Overall I'm extremely happy with the quality of this tablet especially considering its price point! As of this video, the regular price of this tablet is $59.99 but there's currently a holiday sale so it's cheaper temporarily ($47.99).
Pros:
Size considering the price of $59.99
Responsive feel of buttons
Pen weight
Pressure sensitivity (8192 levels)
Cons:
Buttons sometimes don't respond (had this issue initially but went away on its own, I don't know if this will reoccur)
Louder, scratchy sound when drawing (in comparison to Wacom Intuos CTH-480)
Pen button cannot be set to pan/scroll like Wacom pens
I overally really enjoyed using this tablet, but since I rely heavily on the pan/scroll button on my tablet pen and have been for the last 5 years, I'm probably still going to mainly use my Intuos. The other issues were minor because as you draw, you'll naturally tune out the noise and the customer service for XP Pen is fantastic, so I'm not too worried about the button issue.
In this video though I had to use the space bar to pan/scroll instead which was kind of a hassle...
If you feel like you don't need the pan/scroll tool though, I highly recommend this tablet! The size is fantastic and the tablet itself is great, the weight of the pen and tablet itself have a premium feel to it and when my parents saw it they thought it was in the $100+ price point.

I am pretty sure that you can set the pen buttons to what ever short-cut the software uses (including pan and zoom)

@@SvnnyMoney Honestly I prefer the Wacom Intuos to this because despite the fact that it's smaller, Wacom drivers and products are typically more reliable and last a really long time! My old Wacom Intuos Pen and Touch Small lasted me over 5 years and when I retired it, it still worked great and never gave any major problems. (Occasionally pressure sensitivity would die but it wasn't common and I'd just need to restart) However I know some people really want a large tablet size or they're on a budget, so if you want a good value but likely less use out of it than a Wacom you can go with XP Pen. Both are great tablets!

They are both pretty big and cost about the same as the intuos. I have never had a drawing tab so Idk what to get. Ive only ever drawn on paper.

Hi everyone! Thanks for 44k views, I wasn't expecting this at all! I made this review video out of my own accord and this was not a sponsored review. I've been getting a lot of frequent questions so I wanted to address them in a FAQ! *Are you still using this tablet? Is it still working, and does it have any issues after months of use?* I used it only for a short amount of time before making the review, and then gave it to my younger brother because I was used to the pan/scroll on my Intuos (as mentioned in the description). He is still using the tablet to draw, and doesn't have any issues with it. It works great for his needs, and he likes all the shortcut keys! He even prefers this tablet over the Wacom Intuos I gave him a few years back. *Do you prefer the Deco 01 v2 or Wacom Intuos?* I personally prefered the Wacom Intuos because I found Wacom drivers were more reliable, but for the same price you'd just get a much smaller Wacom tablet with not as many buttons. If you draw on too small of a drawing tablet for long amounts of time it causes strain on your wrists leading to wrist pains, so if you draw a lot I'd recommend to buy the Deco 01 v2 instead for larger space, or investing in a larger Wacom tablet. *Do you recommend me to buy this tablet?* I can absolutely recommend this tablet for beginners, or people who are planning to replace this tablet with a newer tablet in less than 4 years. It is overall a good quality tablet, with great pressure sensitivity and lots of nice buttons. However it seems as though XP Pen products are easier to scratch than Wacom tablets in my experience, and the drivers sometimes cause issues like express keys not always saving (this was fixed after a couple of restarts though). If you want a tablet that is reliable and will work for 5+ years for sure, I recommend investing in a Wacom. *What tablet are you using now?* I use both a Wacom Cintiq 16 (purchased) and an XP Pen Artist 15.6 Pro (contest prize). I use my 15.6 pro at my university dorms, and the Cintiq 16 at home. Between the two, I personally recommend the Cintiq 16 if pen accuracy is important to you. The 15.6 Pro pen is not calibrated as precisely as the Cintiq 16, and when you tilt the pen to an angle the cursor/pen becomes inaccurate. I also notice I scratch it much easier than my Cintiq. I end up drawing much faster and fluidly with my Cintiq 16, and I really value drawing quickly to get my ideas out. However if you value a lot of express keys and the useful scroll wheel, and you don't mind a slower drawing speed or usually draw at a straight angle, then you should get the Artist 15.6 Pro. It truthfully depends on your needs, but for my own needs, I strongly prefer the Cintiq 16. It is hard to compare though, since the Cintiq 16 is much more expensive and I also bought the stand, which is very useful. But I really believe in investing in something you'll use for a long time if you can afford it. *What happened to your XP Pen Artist 15.6 Pro review video?* I had to unlist it for a mix of copyright and private reasons. *What program do you use?* For all my illustrations I use Clip Studio Paint EX www.clipstudio.net/en/ I highly recommend this art program for everyone, it has great tools for manga and webcomics, perspective grid, a community assets store with lots of amazing assets you can download (most are free, some are paid) and it goes on sale semi-frequently, at least a couple times a year though somewhat randomly. If you aren't in a rush to get it I'd recommend waiting for the sale because you can save a lot of money. *I'm having an issue with an XP Pen product. Silly question here. Can you use the tablet as a cursor for other functions of photoshop such as the lasso tool and such or can you only draw with it?

Yes! The tablet basically acts as a pressure-sensitive cursor so anything your cursor could do, the tablet should be able to do too. I didn't have a problem using lasso tool, moving tool, or anything else like that.

I use a Dell Inspiron 15 7573! It's a 2 in 1 laptop and although I overall like it, the battery life is really bad... It's advertised at 9 hours which is why I bought it, but it's actually closer to 3 hours and is quite heavy at 5 pounds, I'm currently worried for my back because I start college in the fall and it'll be heavy to lug around while also not having good battery.... But if you're mostly using it at home and only need to occasionally take it outside (and bring the charger with) it's a good laptop! It's I think 512 SSD storage space, has good RAM and graphics card (Intel i7 8th gen) and the brushed metal exterior is super nice. It also has 3 USB ports, 1 USB C port, an HDMI port and can read SD cards which is another reason why I bought it! It's around $750 currently but I bought it for around $900 2 years ago. If you need a more portable laptop I hear the Dell XPS 13 is really light and very good! Though I don't have personal experience with that laptop, so you might have to do more research on that unfortunately TT

@@ss-he6ul Yes it can connect to newer Samsungs for sure! You'll need an adapter that is included in the package to connect it to a Samsung device. Samsung runs on Android so yes this tablet is compatible. I believe the package only comes with a USB-C adapter though so if your Samsung is older and doesn't have it you might need to purchase an adapter elsewhere! I'm not 100% certain for older models though so you might want to check their website for more information.

So sorry for the confusion but it was a mistake from my end! It does NOT work with iPad/iPhone, it will only work with Mac. I'm not very familiar with the Apple ecosystem so I used wrong wording! I'm not sure if purchasing a usb c to iPad adapter would work, so you might want to ask XP pen support instead!

Yes! It connects with a standard USB cable, at 1:39 you can see that it's connected with a USB cable to my laptop. The wire is also pretty long so if you're connecting it to a desktop computer or PC the wire should be able to reach!

I personally think it's a fantastic tablet for beginner artists! The size is big for the price, pressure sensitivity is great, and all the shortcut buttons are really handy. My younger sister enjoys it still, though she doesn't draw that much on her computer it's still working perfect for her when she does. I do recommend Wacom for people who want something very reliable with lots of people including myself to rep for it, but XP Pen does a great job and we'll have to see in the coming years if their products hold up as long as Wacom!

Sincerest apologies for the late reply, but unfortunately almost all of these types of pens are brand specific. My tablet pen from my Wacom Intuos will not work with an XP Pen Deco and vice versa. Unless you were purchasing a universal stylus like the Bamboo Ink to use on laptops, drawing tablet pens usually do not have cross-compatibility.

I've never had experience with Huion before since I've never owned a tablet from them but from what I've heard Huion drivers frequently have issues and XP Pen does not have as many issues. Although this is just from what I've heard from my friends! As for this specific tablet, it has a screen protector so scratching the tablet itself should not be a concern. The screen protector film is easily removable and pretty thick too.

Is it okay to just unplug the pentab without ejecting? I was wondering if it works like a USB flash drive where you have to eject the flash drive before unplugging so that it won't be corrupted. :/

When plugging in the tablets I've never had an option to 'eject' tablet, and most of the time I just unplug it straight up. I've never ran into any issues doing so, but if you have a display tablet instead (the ones with the screens) I've heard it's advisable to first turn off the screen before unplugging it. Though since graphic tablets like these don't have a screen, I'm pretty sure it's safe to just unplug it!

The buttons do work, I just had some issues at first with them not working but they were fixed by the second day after a couple restarts. I did realize afterwards that I still had my Wacom tablet driver installed while I was testing the tablet initially and they advise to not have different tablet drivers installed at the same time so that might've been what was causing the issue!

Hi, I'm really sorry for my late response! I assume you've already gotten a tablet, but honestly this tablet (The Deco 01 v2) seems pretty good, the build quality is very good, the reason why I brought up reliability is just because XP Pen is a tablet brand that only recently seems to have started making a lot of models, so it's hard to compare reliability with a brand like Wacom that's been around for a long time. But even if you eventually run into issues with XP Pen, their customer service is great and you could probably reach out to them whenever you have a problem!

To be honest after reviewing this tablet I was more used to my Intuos still and went back to using that (I mentioned this in the description) but shortly after won the XP Pen Artist 15.6 pro display tablet which I've been using instead, so this one I gave to my younger sister and she says she really likes it! She doesnt draw as much as I do but really enjoys the large size and pressure sensitivity, she wont even use the Wacom Intuos Small I bought her 3 years ago lol. It seems to be working well still after a few months!

It isn't a stupid question at all! It takes a little bit to get used to, to properly build up your hand-eye coordination to match what you want to draw on the tablet to the screen. It took me about 2 weeks to get the general hang of it and a full month to get a good hang of it when I first got a graphics tablet when I was 13 (but since I was just a 13 yr old it might be quicker for older people to get the hang of it!) Generally you want your tablet to be flat on a surface in front of your laptop or screen, parallel to it and not angled in any strange way. Keep your eyes looking at your screen and your cursor while drawing, and just practice drawing a lot with it and you'll get the hang of it! Sorry for my late response, what do you mean by use on PDF? If you mean draw notes on a PDF file if you have Adobe Acrobat Reader and use the notes/write-on function it should work.

Hi! I mentioned in the description that I ended up giving this tablet to my younger sister since I was more used to my intuos. I'm dorming right now, but right before I left my sister was still using it just great (she even preferred it to the wacom intuos I gave her). I'm currently using their Artist 15.6 Pro and their drivers aren't as great as Wacom, and the product don't feel as premium as Wacom products and are more susceptible to scratches. But with too small of a drawing tablet you can get hand cramps easily if drawing for longer periods of time, which I definitely had with my small wacom intuos. I think if you are planning to replace the tablet in less than 4 years go with the XP Pen for sure, because you get a larger tablet with more pen nibs for less money. If you want a reliable tablet that can certainly last 5+ years, some even longer, with better drivers, go with the intuos and if needed maybe invest in a larger intuos or even the intuos pro. Hope this is helpful, despite being a lot of text!

I don't personally use the tablet since I gave it to my sister but it's still working great for her! She's liked having all the shortcut buttons and the large size + better pressure sensitivity makes it so that she prefers this tablet over a small wacom intuos tablet I got her a few years back!

Takes time to get used to a tablet. I recommend using it for a week as a mouse with the pen instead of the normal mouse. Use it for your normal daily stuff.
