Best of 1s is a must for viewer retention especially when challenger series joins with LCS
@mc1665897 жыл бұрын
TurtleMonkey you will hardly see any of these challenger substitutes play due to the Bo1 format. In what world are teams going to put in a less competent player for a Bo1? It is just going to set our league back years and NA will be relegated a strong competitor in the worlds play in tournament.

Yo x, awesome informative vid. Please tell me that your are playing next year? Your games are the only ones that i wanna watch tbh. You are a straight up legend.

So NA is sacrificing series format experience (post group format @worlds) for a "stronger" groups performance?

is the bo1 change just for NA or all regions? Personally at the end of the day I want to see NA compete hard at worlds. I don't care about any kind na championship because to me showing up at worlds and being able to win is all that really matters. So if NA is alone is going back to BO1 they lose a lot of experience with BO series that the better regions will have. I'm not opposed to BO1 I just think if your gunna do it every region should be made to do it not just NA. I guess what i'm saying is formats should be game wide and not region wide.

It's for NA only. "NA LCS: Format update for 2018" That's the title of the article on lolesports.

"I support BO3 but I want BO1 because fans want BO1" This argument is complete shit tbh. NA doesn't want to improve. They just want to make money. It's just plain idiotic.
@jessrabbit18777 жыл бұрын
That's the purpose of the NA LCS, how naive/stupid are you to think the LCS exists to foster or help improve teams? It's an entertainment program run by Riot in order to make money and to promote their game, nothing else.

I like the video but the argument falls apart with the regions. If Bo1 were the best format for competitive league of legends because it follows MSI and Worlds format why does the LCK plays Bo3? Bo3 simply improves the level of play. Yes you may have learned those macro lessons now but we all know the game is constantly changing and those lessons need to be re-learned, modified/adapted as Riot alters the game. Like anything in life if you are not actively practicing/doing something your skills deteriorate. Lastly, what about those macro lessons for the new players? Heck, what about subs altogether? Bo1 kills the incentive and opportunities for substitute players. Lastly, I must be in the minority because I love LoL games/content and loved having enough games to entertain me throughout the weeks.

Problem is that the western scenes get their revenue from viewership, as do the sponsors for the teams. In korea KT/SKT/SSG are huge corporations that spend barely anything in comparison to the size of the companies. Anyways the point is that western teams do not really care that much about improving when money is at stake. So, since bo1 is better for profit, bo1 it is, which I find sad because I personally loved watching good teams playing in a bo1.

Yes it makes sense that the format would mirror worlds or other tournament. But playing bo3 would not affect your ability to play bo1, however on the other hand, playing bo1 for the whole season would hurt team's ability to play bo3, coz the whole adaption, drafting, subbing in player thing is missing in bo1. Your argument is straightly on viewer perspective, you know what. IF you team is good, you will get viewers, how about that to solve your problem
@NoEphingIdea7 жыл бұрын
The only benefit is the increase in viewership... how much did riot pay you to make this vid xpecial?
@jessrabbit18777 жыл бұрын
Viewership is the most important aspect of the LCS. It's not there for anything else.
@NoEphingIdea7 жыл бұрын
Jess Rabbit I guess it's the biggest part, being competitive is definitely a part. Idk if you forgot how common clown fiestas were in bo1's plus the fact you play less games in a year of bo1 than a single split of bo3.... This change is for no reason other than maximizing revenue which is fine just shitty for the team's actually trying to get good at the game
@freakindamnshiki7 жыл бұрын
that is why no one watches LCK, because it is not Bo1... that is bullshit sorry.

I think he cares less about the viewer experience and more about the player's-on-worse-or-less-popular-teams experience.The current format favors teams that are doing well. This problem is not inherent in the format though. The problem is that no one wants to watch a battle for last place. The "solution" of a Bo1 format relies on viewers who think "I want to watch LCS but only P1 and Liquid are playing... I guess I'll watch that." A real solution would be for teams to perform better, make a brand, get fans, and you know, do the actual work for viewers. TSM, Immortals, CLG, and C9 I'm certain were not lacking in viewership this split. If anything the Bo3 format was highly favorable for them. People have a mentality of "Oh this team sucks, I'm not watching them" and that's unfortunate, but it's also how competitions work. This change is a crutch meant to increase viewership for lower ranked teams, and increase production value for LCS. That is important I agree, but in my opinion sacrificing a more competitive format to achieve that is not the right answer to the problem.
@mc1665897 жыл бұрын
Bo1 is going to ruin the viewer experience for me personally. Now game times won't be as predictable, I have to wait through shity games to watch the good teams play, I get to see my favorite teams play less, I have to put up with cheese picks more, and all my teams will do worse internationally. I am done with league if we go back to the one stream bullshit from a while back.

My argument with this is you are now only getting content for one day of the week and only about 1-2 hours a week. This is about a 2 hour loss(as long as you arent being stomped) every week. Another thing about a BO1 is that it doesnt allow for much adaptation, to show that they can improve from game to game. In the BO3 format, you tend to see teams adapt and make games/series a lot more interesting. In a BO1, I believe you are now letting viewers see within the first 20-25 mins of a match what the likely outcome of the series is whereas in a BO3 a viewer would be more apt to watch to see if their team makes a comeback(again, this goes back to viewtime). Overall, I would argue that the BO1 format is actually LESS benifitial for the pros. As for viewers, with a BO1 yes you get to see more games, but you dont get the same suspense as in a BO3. You can argue that you DO based on the pressure for your team to perform well, but as stated above, in this format you are likely going to see the first 20-25 mins and know the winner or th eseries whereas in a BO3 you have that hope for the comeback. Overall, I believe the BO1 format is not the right move by Riot. Yes there are a number of people who will enjoy this, but There will most likely be just as many that do not. P.S. As a side note, what does this mean for casters careers? Less showtime = less jobs? Will soe of the casters be let go?
@AleXoEx07 жыл бұрын
You still have a job no matter how many people watch you. Riot say themselves that they are so virtuous because "The LCS runs at a net loss, we do it for the teams and the fans." Yeah, of course it's that, not the massive publicity that staging and also controlling global tournaments gives to Riot's game and the microtransactions that go with that, which REALLY is what funds the game.
@twiceseventeen7 жыл бұрын
It should be the other way around. Worlds should be Bo3's. LCS should have stayed Bo3's. It's a shame because Dota 2 & CSGO has way better tournaments and events than us. This Bo1 decision is just backwards af.

lying like shit. "i really care about the viewer experience" more like riot needs help from all the backlash so let me throw them a bone. BO3 is the only way to go. If league viewership is decreasing it sure as fuck is not because of that.

Xpecial is washed up and will never get to Worlds again so he doesn't care about getting better or having stronger competition, which is why he's in favour of Bo1s.
