I mean...that thing looks like it lived in a swamp. Mold is far more serious than people think; you can never really get rid of it all and definitely don't take a breath in or near the car! AMMO NYC cleaned an '06 535xi with mold and that was an eye opener. This was a bold purchase, I commend you and hope it gets fully restored.

@Rhein Amacher yep, standard 4.4 M62TU. Schnitzer suspension, wheels, roof spoiler, front bumper, rear bumper, side skirts, mirrors, pin stripes, decals, pedal set, exhaust etc. The brochure lists a bespoke engine for the 728! But, the M62 remains stock.

Haven't seen another one for sale since here in Canada. 150000 kms, dark blue on tan, no facelift, minor body damage, runs and drives, $1500 Canadian dollars. No where near as much to do as yours! I would say that the best option with the head lining would be to go back to original spec with the grey rather than the current black, IF the grey item was a standard E38 part. The current head lining looks pretty poor, and the amount of mould build up rather suggests that it's got very damp which probably means that the back board is going to be badly compromised and may well come apart when you remove it. The grey head lining will help to lift the, otherwise very dark, interior and stop it feeling claustrophobic, and it also has to be said that with this having been the factory press car then it's completed value is likely to be quite a lot higher put back to original spec, which is fairly easy to work out with it having been documented when new... I would say this is more of a detail restoration than a complete, nut and bolt rebuild, which gives you options with how to tackle the project. You can take on individual parts of this project when you have down time in the other projects, and then really get stuck in to this, or what's left of the work, once the other projects are complete. I'd say it's worth the effort as, when it's finished, you're going to have a pretty valuable car with incredibly good provenance having been the factory press car, and one that you're unlikely to ever have the opportunity to own again. It's also worth saying that, with this having originally been the factory car, then the specification could be unique as, with so few built, there's a very good chance that none have been ordered with exactly the same options in the same colour scheme as these were hugely expensive vehicles new and could pretty much allow the original purchaser to order exactly what they wanted in their car, which is why it isn't all that unusual to see Alpinas in rather odd, orphan specs...

Someone in Scotland I knew actually had a 5.7 and a 6.0 B12. He said he liked the 5.7 more. His 6.0 was amazing. Mora red with cream piped red. Good luck with it. I understand it's a big undertaking.

Man I started watching this car videos from the end and when I realised the quality of the content as a serious job with the car all streaped for paint I came back to see this properly from the begining. When you sayed that you were bringing the car back to the stock face with the prefacelift headlights and anithing else that may have been modofied I felt so happy. I agree completelly with you about how wrongly people are brave enough to get a limited unit like this and miss reapir it with wrong screws cheap aftermarket shit parts and poorly done works in all areas. When you talk about your thoughts how it should be done how it should be kept... a car like this specially, I feel happy to see out there exist more people that understand this good care procedure to have any kind of car is it or not a classic doesnt matter. I also feel so ashame as an spanish about how people that are in the car world here threat the cars, cause im sure after seen it came to spain and it was shown in a review with eye catching pictures and the stupid modifications like exhausts, deleting original stripes, wrong 6.0 badging, facelift front lights... thats very tipical shamingly from this country ang I personally hate it I wish we could change this minds and let enough people undetstand how important and how great is to keep as stock as it factory came. When talking about such special unit as this one specially. Keep it up and good luck. Really enjoy all your videos.

The wires on the cats are preheating modules, they preheat the cats, if they don't work the car can't pass the Emission tests so no MOT, that's probably the reason it couldn't pass MOT. You can Google it "Alpina B12 EKAT" ***Like so he can see this***

This is a 1996 car I heard him say. Face lift was 1999? I thought e-cats were 1999 and up only. But that might be here in north America. Or perhaps it has them because of the alpina package? I do know my 1998 750il does not have e-cats as it only has one battery. Also mine has air cooled alternator, not water cooled. Sorry, I'm still learning with these cars 😁

What year is the car? All facelift B12 were 6.0l and this is 5.7l? The facelifts had widescreen navis too and this doesn't have the same gear selection as facelifts but the hood, grille, headlights and front side bodypanels are from the facellift.

My friend, you can’t tell that you regret the purchase .. Here in California, USA.. you can get normal v12 750i with less miles for $3000 or less... yeah, I know it’s an alpina... but holy cow 12.5 euro... damn

good condition Alpina B12 start from 40 000€ right now in Europe and low mileage ones easily go for +100 000€. They are rare cars. For example there was a total of 94 facelift 6.0l models made and only 18 of those were long wheelbase. And there were only 202 pre-facelift 5.7 B12 ever made and 59 were long wheelbase. And about 23 000 regular BMW 750i / 750iL were made and a total of 340 242 E38 in total.
