I was the second person in SA, I believe, getting this setup. Aaron was the first,and he put me onto it. Dobbinsons Adelaide service is absolutely awesome, and the suspension after 3 years is faultless. I think you'll be happy with them

Got a set of Dobinsons IMS monotubes on my rig as part of a pre-rego GVM upgrade. That along with a set of Airbag Man airbags make towing my 15ft hybrid a breeze. Awesome gear!!
@mickanon56076 ай бұрын
What about copping a severe rock strike on a monotube? would it cause the piston to grab? Twin tube you can dent the outer heaps without having that issue. I see that you had OME top-spec units. Was it a case of them being 'worn out'? could they have been rebuilt?

This was all kinds of confusing, he said when "doing rebound, especially the high speeds and low speeds", which only makes sense for compression, because the MRRs only have one rebound dial. So if he meant compression, he still got them backward. Low-speed adjustment will mitigate body roll, and high-speed is for bumps and bigger hits. That being said, I have the same Dobinsons shocks on my 4Runner and they work amazingly well!

Nathan. I have fixed my vehicle cutting out after starting. I cleaned the MAF put new fuel filter in with flat o ring to the bottom and flushed air through he top of my primer.. a heap of shit come out and it hasn’t missed a beat since. 4 degrees this morning started first pop. Give it a try if you haven’t all ready regards mick..bravo from Victoria

Another great video Nathan. I have had the pleasure of being in Aarons car with the same suspension set up and it was certainly one of the best I've been in. Reckon you'll be stoked long term, how long or how many kms / outback trips before you do a review of your thoughts and their performance?

I see you went from the OME BP51 to the Dobinsons. I have the MMRs in my 105. Toss up between the OMEs and Dobinsons for my 200. What is your short term impression between the 2?

Any update on these shocks? Also, how did you go with the GVM upgrade already approved with the BP-51s?
@peterj57515 ай бұрын
Hi. Your previous set up with the OME BP-51 shocks and GVM upgrade is the same as mine. I don’t know if your GVM upgrade was state approved post registration or nationally approved pre-registration like mine but how do you go changing the things without needing to have the GVM recertification? Is because at some stage I may well want to change shocks for these MMRs but not messing up my pre-registration GVM is essential to me.

He says you "already have a gvm upgrade" once you fitted the new shocks you dont... So what gvm do you have and who signed it off?

One thing I never understood is why if the remote reservoirs main purpose is to provide cooling then why would it be mounted so close to the engine. On 90 degree(F) + days it is scaldingly hot to the touch. Wouldn’t the sway bar brackets be a much more ideal location?

Hi Nathan, Thanks for the vid and information provided on Dobinson Did I miss something ? Your 200 had a GVM upgrade befor to 3800 kg I recon with the old suspension system In the video with the Dobison suspension at the end was show what comes with the kit. But there was nowhere shown the Dobinson Certificate of compliance for the GVM upgrade with federal approval number and how many Kg ? And the sticker in the door. That said this info is from a vass engineer. Please shed some lights on this subject since it is important for all past rego installations As I know can’t use the old from other supplier issued GVM certificate of compliance for the Dobison brand. Thanks in advance…… Cheers from Germany 🇩🇪

I'm having a little issue comprehending your concern but I think your concern could be similar to mine. I was intending to query the GVM upgrade and if components now installed retain the original GVM SSM (Second Stage Manufacturing) certification. Pedders GVM upgrade on my Patrol clearly states Pedders components must be used to retain certification of SSM GVM. I suspect non compliance null & voids my GVM upgrade. Suspect whomever Nathan's SSM was may need to sign off on new components, unsure though. I've no doubt Nathan will address our concerns. Wealie.

@@ianweal3081 You Are Right, exactly the same situation and problem. Pedders Schocks not rebuildable, no have.. No adjustable Schocks wie external reservoir. Pedders Not allow to use other schocks with their GVM upgrade certificate. Let’s see what others say Thanks and Best Regards

When a shock just works in a range of 3 cm e.g. on a not to extreme road and you are getting fast: How much flow is REALLY going up/down in that cylinder? Looks good on a bench but you arent exchanging a lot of oil from bottom to the reservoir.

Is it really correct that the high speed compression adjustment influences body roll when cornering or braking? I am used to shock tuning on bikes and would use low speed compression to avoid braking dive or adjust behavior related to preloading bike when jumping. The point is that low speed or high speed refer to shock shaft speed and not to how fast you are going... So high-speed relates to square edge hits (like if you ride into a curb) while low speed rather relates to your movements on the bike. Of course there is a bit of a problem that low and high speed compressions are not entirely independent - and hence for instance small chatter is influenced significantly by low speed compression, even if it theoretically should be more high speed - and also setting of the low speed influences how the high speed reacts. But shock manufacturers are trying to isolate it as much as they are able. Is this different in cars?
@mikehub66642 ай бұрын
He got them mixed up. High speed is for high shaft input speeds(impacts and chatter) same for low speeds (Body control and low speed movement control) How its used depends on what terrain you are moving through. You want them to be used in tandem as there is a point where the shaft speed is not fast enough for highspeed valve and too fast for low speed adjustment. This is where adjustments get tricky and if they are too far apart in adjustment difference it can make the dampening fell worse than non adjustable dampers. Trial and error and making a suspension tune book based on terrain type and you will be pretty happy with it. Don't forget the rebound as it make the biggest impact on ride and should be adjusted first before adjusting compression settings, just like a bike.

I have MRR on a 2013 Prado I bought from the first owner. I do not understand what the process and ease of adjusting them are. I recently did a Simpson trip with 1500 klms of corrugations and was disappointed with the ride. I had an 80S with OME shocks and it was a much nicer ride.

Why not Ironman foam pro? They run at a low pressure low temperature (aka probably last longer) and rebuildable.

Swapping out BP-51s for MRR not the best choice imo, unless you got sponsor deal with them ;)
@davidhamad612513 күн бұрын
Why not? They’re both very capable pieces of equipment, & both made by very reputable brands. I have heard a few complaints regarding BP51 here & there, but never heard anything bad about the Dobinsons MRAs/MRRs. I’m sure they have their flaws as well, but it seems like it’s as solid a choice as BP51s.
@silverfoxjk13 күн бұрын
@@davidhamad6125 Not sure if you've owned BPs but quality & adjustability is superior on them. When I say that it's not just clicking the adjuster but actually having tangible results too. Dobinson in general make great springs and thats about it. In fact BP51s are better than the entire lot when it comes to shock performance, i'm sure the internet has the metrics to verify
