The LC200 is WEIGHED | Fully MODIFIED and LOADED? | It might be time to go on a diet!? | GVM & GCM

The results will probably surprise you just as much as they surprised me!
In today’s we finally weigh the 2014 Toyota Landcruiser 200 series! The vehicle is just about complete and all the modifications have been installed. Now it’s time to see how much gear we can afford to take on our trips away.
I still can’t believe how quickly modifications and the culmination of all this small items have on the overall final weight!
Regardless of whether you are stock standard, lightly modified or extremely modified, it’s our responsibly to ensure that we are aware of the weights and capabilities of our vehicle.
I hope that this video was able to provide some awareness to the how ‘standard touring’ modifications can have on a wagon styled 4x4.

Great video mate. So many 4WD's are way over the legal GVM weight of their 4WD. I went through this in my GU Patrol. Mine was always over weight when going away on a trip, and i didn't want to do a GVM upgrade to carry more weight. I wanted to keep my current GVM and carry less weight. So i went to town and began putting my Patrol on a massive diet. In the end i removed just over 300kgs from my Patrol and this includes taking out the second row back seats. I'll speak of the State of Victoria if you are considering this change and you want to keep your 4WD legal when taking out the back seats. It must be inspected and signed off by Vic Roads with those seats out and now my Patrol is a registered and insured 2 seater GU Patrol. It can cause all sorts of legal issues if you take your second row seats in and out and your involved accident while your 4WD is still registered and insured as a 5 or 7 seater vehicle.

Thanks Tim! It sure is a underrated subject. Probably due to some people putting their heads in the sand and not wanting to know how far over GVM they really are... I'm hoping to do something to reduce the overall weight as we all know how much difference a lighter vehicle can make when out on the tracks. So many legalities to consider as well and frustratingly, so different from state to state.... it definitely doesn't make it easy for people to work out what they are going to do and how to do it! Great episode Nathan, can't say I was surprised with being overweight as we had a fleet of 200's attempting to be remote patrol vehicles. Glad you have kept it real and honest, I thought you had to be within GVM with tanks full at all times so not sure the "short term " fixes will work. Hey Nathan my guesstimate was close on your empty weight but out when the big girl is fully loaded, wow 😯. Something I'm learning as I build mine at the moment as well. It took me sometime getting my head around weights and after market products that would support my build but thanks too content creators like yourself and your experiences they have really help me setup my cruiser. Thank you for that transparency. The payload is definitely a huge challenge. I think it is not only modified 4wd but lots of small SUV as well as they have limited payload and are at risk of being overloaded when going camping. I have a Prado and we ended buying a pod trailer to carry the weight instead of adding more weight on the roof.

Great warts & all video with honest disclosure. I have a 2010 60th Anniversary 200. No spare wheel carrier, LR tank, no water, no flat rack but otherwise similar to your setup. It has the Lovells 3800 GVM upgrade with 7300 GCM. With caravan attached, on a recent trip, a check at a roadside VicRoads weighbridge showed the car with 2 people at 3720kg. Very close to GVM & I have to be careful what I can add, otherwise I will be in the same boat as you. Add a couple of people & I am over. How many 200 owners are out there that are hopelessly overweight & don't know or do know but choose to ignore it? Keep up the good work.

I went through a similar process with my 100series, like you, we had far too much stuff. We managed to cull just over 200kgs by swapping out our heavy vehicle based equipment for the light weight hiking equipment. This culling also included removing our rear draws and fridge slide and going back to basic lightweight storage boxes. To our surprise we haven't missed anything and now prefer this simpler lighter set-up. Fully loaded we're still 50kg over our gvm of 3500kg but it's only when the longranger tank is full.

Same here Steve, wife and I recently sold our fully decked out HZJ105 and purchased a GX 200 series, have focused on packing our lighter Motorcycle/Bicycle camping gear and keeping the rear modular. No more slide out draws, roof racks, rear bars, fridge slides, etc for us. Just a Pelican case for tools and minimal recovery gear, an Engel 40L fridge and the dog. Happy camping.

Great videos keep up the good work, I have rear drawers and recovery equipment in back of 200 series, etc. when loaded up up with caravan I am at 3860 kgs, gvm on vehicle. One thing I found that my rear axle was nearly 200 kilos over, ( insurance will be void in case of the unthinkable.) which hardly anybody seems to mention. if rear axle etc is overloaded. That was with lovells 3800 kg gvm, I have since installed 4.2 tonne gvm and new rear diff housing, now 2.5 tonne on rear axle, upgraded from 2000kg to 2500kg I now am well under GVM and rear axle weights. keep the videos coming Much appreciated.

For sure mate, this is a good point to consider. There are so many points to consider and many of them weren't mentioned in this video. Unfortunately I didn't have the ability to weigh individual axles on this occasions and therefore didn't comment. But something I will be looking into in the future, particularly with the new van. @@XploringOz Hey Nathan, I was reading through the comments hoping that someone had brought the issue of Rear Axel to your attention. Unfortunately many, actually nearly all of the GVM upgrade kits don’t address AXEL WEIGHTS. Many of the kits, it’s impossible to get to the advertised GVM weight without breaching the axel weight. FYI, Jason from JMacx has some excellent KZbin content on this issue, it’s well worthy watching FROM A SAFETY ASPECT. IMO, SSM is a bit of a joke in this country. Basically what happens is Toyota engineers establish what is safe weight for their products and then other engineers come along and re-rate it often without changing much more than suspension components. That’s the beauty of what Jason talks about on his YT’s on this subject. At the end of the day, I think there’s alot of people rolling around with these basic GVM upgrade kits “Thinking” they’ve got it covered when in fact they are overlooking a number of things but on most occasions are oblivious to axel weights. What people don’t realise in a criminal court of law, ignorance is not a defence. Traffic matters can become Criminal matters especially in incidents where Serious injury or death is occasioned. Great YT, excellent work by yourself again. If you have any dramas & want to chat I’d be happy to discuss this with you as it’s something I have experience with on a professional level & something that EVERYONE should get right as there’s a lot riding on this. It’s always too late after things go pear shaped to find things out and has the potential to cause the loss of life and serious financial consequences too. Cheers 👍

@@XploringOz Great video, this stuff gets really complex when you start pushing the load limits. The rear axle weight isn’t as simple as just the tow ball down load either because the distance between the rear axle and the tow hitch acts as a multiplier for the weight by actually transferring front axle weight to the rear axle to further complicate the issue, so a 250kg tow ball download could actually be 350kg on the rear axle.

@@XploringOz as per usual very informative video. My 2017 cruiser has hah a GVM upgrade as well. But it is always a struggle the keep the rear axle at or below rated once packed for touring Ann caravan in tow. Not sure up you way but there are many free public weight bridges along main highways. They weigh stations here typically operated by our road authority. VIC Roadshave in the past few years have been converted so that anyone can use if they are interested. Some points to note. You cam weigh each axle seperately. Front axle first. Take weight. Then Both axles. Take weight. Rear axle next take weight. Then of course take caravan weight. I use a spring weight at home to get before leaving. You can then add the ball weight to the caravan weight you just took to get van ATM. Oh and you can transfer rear vehicle axle weight to front axle by putting more tension on weight distribution hitch. Hope this helps. Shane

Good video Nathan, my 2015 Prado (almost a 200) with 3rd seats removed, full fuel tank, 40ltr water tank, roo bar, winch, tow bar, rock sliders, roof rack, 2nd battery system, plywood rear shelving and without a GVM upgrade, only leaves 300kg for 2 people and gear which is tight to say the least. I can get an extra 70kg by removing the 2nd row seats

I have a 2017 hilux with a few mods a nudge bar ,rock sliders, water tank,UHF, dual battery about a 100 kg add water and all my usual gear adds up to 200KG I weighed everything for my trip to Dirk Hartog Island inc camping gear food, water, kayak , ect I had 800KG still 200kg under my limit but if I had a bull bar and winch I would be at the limit. The concept of a GVM upgrade been a set of heavy springs gives me the chills when the car was made they fitted brakes designed to stop a certain load and a wheel of a certain diameter a larger wheel is harder to stop as is a heavier vehicle. Every component from wheel bearing, cv joints and axles is made to give a long Service life when used with in design limits its easy to modify out reliability and you are spot on with few people consider the ball down weight when towing. If you test how much longer it takes to stop with big diameter wheels over standard you will be horrified, great content regards Mike

For sure, again agree with you here. The service life of a lot of components would reduce with extra weight, wind resistance and bigger tyres, but this is after all part of the compromise. Personally, I have upgraded the brakes which has made a big and noticeable difference! Cheers, Nathan.

Had a Space cab 2017 BT50, had a resonably standard canopy setup + barwork + rooftop tent, it came in at 3500kg without a driver, and it would tare at 2720kg without canopy. Ended up ditching it and going to a 4wd truck (Canter) gives almost 3t payload with a 6500kg gvm. And you can safely tow 4500kg as well ontop.

You can see why Utes are popular, large pay loads. My Dmax space cab chassis for example has an OEM GVM of 3050kg and GCM 6000kg. Pre first reg Lovells GVM and GCM upgrade done to produce new GVM 3600kg and new GCM 7000kg. I have built a tourer and not towing. Alloy tray and canvas canopy. Drawer system, under tray water and fuel tanks installed. Fridge, second battery, steel bull bar and scrub bar, winch, rear Xbar. We sleep on our drawer system bed base so weight low and between axles. Stock tyres and steel wheels. I am at 3200 kg without second fuel tank carrying its extra 60 lt capacity. Awning 270 degree, solar panel up top, maxtrax 1 pr, spare parts, hi lift jack and shovel. The weight adds up fast.

There'll always be people projecting their version of their understanding of camping on others. It's such a broad idea with many variations. You do what you works for you, and call it what you will. If people start saying to you,"You keep saying that word. I do not think it means what you think it means", then maybe you're operating right on the edge, or even beyond, the accepted definition ;-) Those weights are up there, for sure. Have a look at the axles ratings as well. Great video on a subject that doesn't get that much attention, like the unsprung weight issue you mentioned with respect to wheels. That's often overlooked as well.

I am on my second 200 series and identified the same issue so have had the Lovells GCM upgrade to 7300 pre rego. 3800 for the car and retains 3500 towing. I am just about to go through a similar weigh and check process on the car and our van. We will see. Considering they are an 8 seater makes you wonder if they are fit for purpose with only 610kg for say a family of 5 and normal luggage with no extras fitted. I assume the 300 will likely be similar issue! Great informative vid should upload a link to the LC200 forum.

Another informative and well presented video Owning a modified gu patrol I am very weight conscious I have set my vehicle up modular style so I only take what I need for that particular trip My major weight saving comes from having two lithium batteries and removing the rear and middle seats ( my family have grown up) Having a family makes everything much more complicated A simple cheap solution is a small off-road trailer with extra water, fuel and spare wheels. It only gets hitched up for those remote trips With the caravan things will get really difficult as most vans don’t have much payload In your situation you will want to focus on van payload I know the “urban” hybrid vans are ally construction and offer more payload than most Will be interesting to see the path you take

I was one of the blissfully unaware... The lithium, batteries have definitely been a great weight saver and something I'll be exploring very soon. I have resorted to a trailer on the odd occasion, particularly when taking out motorbikes along as well. Makes me glad that 4 of the 6 people in our car weigh under 30kgs lol. I have no idea what we weigh, but I had thought that we might be close so got a 6x4 trailer to modify to just offload as much weight from the Prado as possible. GVM upgrade is outside our price range at the moment, especially with needing the Kakadu upgrade. Something I find very interesting is the whole GVM thing is mostly around 4x4's. I know 100% I constantly overload the Camry with weight but have never had any worry about being tested as I have with the Prado.

Haha, only until they grow! 😂 The trailer idea is definitely a smart one though! This will work for us too when we get the new van! Good point you bring up about the GVM focussing on 4WD's though. I guess because they appear more obvious than regular vehicles. People would see them as a threat, whereas would be ignorant to sedans that are overweight... maybe, just my opinion? Cheers.

Great work as always Nathan. Interesting to see how things are progressing with your 200. I also have a 200 and recently discovered on a trip to the rubbish tip of all places where they these days weigh the vehicle I was almost overweight and would be if I had my van on the back. I've got a few accessories fitted but I got a shock to see how much the thing weighed and realised to keep legal I would need a GVM upgrade. Since then I have done plenty of research into the dark art of weights and measures which can be very confusing and inconsistent between manufacturers. For example I've discovered different manufacturers use different parameters to measure kerb weight of the vehicle, the starting point for all this. Some allow for passengers and some fuel or varying amounts of either and the figure they supply out of the factory is an approximate one. I worry about the day to day ride after this is done as mostly it's a town car but if I want to use my van and stay legal it has to be done. Fortunately for me my van is on the light side at less than 2ton so a GVM upgrade to 3800 should cover my needs. Mine is still in warranty so if something goes wrong Toyota will probably walk away. Another thing to check that's sometimes overlooked when considering a GVM upgrade is tyre and rim load capacities. Cheers, Peter 👍

I completely agree, it's about crazy how quickly these weights add up, even with relatively 'standard' aftermarket accessories. I know the feeling when researching the weights, there is so much info out there, it's hard to make sense of it all when starting out. I was pleasantly surprised with the ride quality after fitting my GVM upgrade kit. I fitted it when the vehicle was stock standard and although much firmer, no where near as bad as I was expecting. Yes, the aftermarket wheel and tyre combo is definitely overlooked when upgrading wheels and tyres and this is something I mentioned in one of my first (and somewhat cringeworthy) KZbin videos when talking about wheels and tyres. I am going through the same process with a 79 series, the weight nobody seems to mention is the weights over the front and back axle, surprising to me my weights are ok overall but I was overweight over the back axle is the 200 series ok

Hi Nathan As usual another informative video. 👍 I’m amazed as to where all that weight comes from. Its not just the aftermarket gear bolted to the vehicle. I think I have my maths right; You mentioned a standard tare of 2740kg and a ready to roll weight with you in it of 3540kg. ie 800kg of gear on and in the vehicle; Bbar 85 Winch 25 Lights, aerials, radio 20 Fuel filter and catch can 10 Wheels 45 Roof rack 30 That’s 215kg, leaving 585kg for you, the rear drawers, tyre carrier and the larger tanks. 630kg if you deduct the removed 3rd row seat weight. We ( we are all guilty !) certainly find plenty of gadgets and gear to take with us. Cheers

For sure mate. These weights add up so quickly! I believe just the LR fuel tank itself is quite a bit heavy as well. Not only more steel, but made from a heavy duty construction. It will be all the small things like this that add up very quickly... Not denying a cull of items we bringing is in order though! Cheers.

@@XploringOz ... I knew I was over but geezzzz. I'm 490 kgs over my max GCM of 6850kgs. I'm carrying 3 x 95 litre tanks (285litres) of water in the van and 1 x 105 litre bladder of water which sits on the 200's passenger floor. The 200 is -35kgs underweight when attached to van and -333 underweight when not attached. The caravan is 280 kgs overweight when standing alone and 211 kgs overweight when attached to the 200. As you can see, I have a bit of thinking to do.

Saying that, you're not too far off, I think there would be many 200's out there over their GCM by a lot more. Keep us in the loop as to how you go! Hey Nathan - good all round information session. I have the 4015kg GVM ARB upgrade - thankfully!! You may have to look at upgrading your brakes as well with such a solid load on board. My mate had a Pedders gvm upgrade and part of that was new discs and pads for handling the increased weight. For some reason ARB don't offer the same brake upgrade.

Another great informative video Nathan - my '19 VX has similar mods with addition of a full Kaymar rear bar with dual wheel carrier, but I've removed the 2nd row seats and fitted a lighter storage unit (benefit of no kids to worry about). My weights are similar to yours - once I established an empty base line I created a spreadsheet to calculate total weight for each big trip, including an inbuilt roof rack load/capacity tab. This way I can tweak what I take based on the trip needs, and whether towing, with a good idea of total mass without having to re-weigh often. Oh, and perhaps in a future video touch on axle limits also, many people overlook that the rear axle limit (2,145kg in your case) is often exceeded even though the total vehicle is under GVM limit.

@@XploringOz You can do individual axles on a single point weighbridge, just drive the steer axles up to the B pillar, measure then drive forward until drives are on and measure, subtract the steer from the total and gives you your drive. Alternatively plenty of split weighbridges around that do individual plate weights so you can weigh each axle.

Just an FYI, if ever inspected for weight the relevant authorities will fill all tanks fitted, so you can’t argue/say that you’re keeping legal by not running full tanks. Great video btw, my equivalent 2015 VX recently weighed in at 3.22 without me in it and not many less mods…add the 350kg ball weight, luggage, a full fridge etc and I’m creeping up to my 4T gvm very quickly! There are soooo many over weight four wheel drives getting around!

check the 4015 upgrade .. i have been informed it does not increase your rear axel weight capacity , but does increase your front .. this was from ARB themselves .. I have the exact same set up as you .. only way you can improve the rear is jmax set up at an eye watering cost of $19,000.00 .... would love you to prove me wrong tho

Hey Nathan, have you ever thought of upgrading to lithium batteries? DCS do a 200ah and 260ah under bonnet lithium setup. This saves a bit of weight in the car, also get a 2000w inverter and that will power induction cook top. That way you won’t have to lug around the blueetti generator you have. Just a thought? 3 grand for the batteries though but they are meant to last 6x the life of an agm.

I just looked up, 2 x dcs 100ah batteries weigh 26.2kg the average agm (1 battery) weighs 28kg. Plus the weight of the generator

For sure, have thought about this and have some plans coming up (albeit not DCS). There are reasons I have chosen not to go with DCS, not because of any issues, but just given our requirements and I'll definitely cover this in a video coming out in the future. The DCS setup (and removing the Bluetti/generator) would definitely save a significant amount of weight though!

Just gone through the same with my Colorado and van. GVM and ATM upgrades, shed some weight and moved heavy items between the axle where possible. The thing to be conscious of is should you have an accident the authorities and the insurance will weigh you vehicle. I believe there is a woman in NSW in serious trouble due to a fatal accidence and her vehicle / van was proven to be over the specified limits.

You could save 40 kg by putting a lithium cranking battery under the bonnet. Brent from BAW shows his setup at 12 minute mark on Brent’s Nori green Toyota Land Cruiser 79. It’s an expensive option though.

Good video. By luck I chose a full sized 4wd with a stock carrying capacity of nearly 900 kg. I drive the very under rated old Nissan patrol rb30. It’s got the 3 l petrol motor. Once we were done with young kids it was out with most of the seats, homemade ,light box system, Aluminium bull bar and general emphasis on light weight. Despite drinking fuel like a sailer on shore leave , I manage to do Simpson Desert trips around 3000 kg, admittedly still a couple of hundred kgs over weight but probably a ton lighter than most 4wd’s out there. The car drinks that weight after the first couple of days ! I know my car is old and gutless and Cruisers clearly are better vehicles ,but out in the sand it performs really, really well. Too much weight and sand are not a great combination. I suppose Land Rover defenders would have a very high load carrying capacity too. It does seem strange that cruisers can’t legally carry more because in real life they do it easily. Anyway, just how I do it.

I hear you mate, I used to have an old patrol too. They are great cars and very underrated. Fuel and power are not their strong suits at all. Hi Nathan very interesting very easy be over weight, I have been chasing weight on my LC 200 & caravan also with a towball weight of 250 kgX TBW by 1.5 & this gives the approx weight added to the rear axle. With 1950 kg max rear axle it is very easy to exceed this figure, hence the reason I haven't fitted a bigger fuel tank wheel carrier etc etc and increased solar on the van & leave the genny at home. I am fine with the 6850 gcm 1000 kg under and the van gvm under by 150 kg the LC has a 3650 kg upgrade OK there...but it is the rear axle is very close. With a big van with a TBW of 300kg + I don't see how it would be possible without a rear axle up grade apparently Lovells sign off on the rear load increase increase on their 3800kg upgrade. . I am on the Sunshine Coast Qld the guy at the local weigh bridge told me they are weighing the wreck after a smash now....insurance injepody if over .

Hi guys I run the plus 600 kg rear springs and loaded without the caravan is just ok. My van ball weight is 300 kg. I would not go to 400 kg springs plus helper air bags. If the 600 kg does not work out for you (borrow a set and try) consider airbag men full air bags in the rear. You got the arb air compressor and tank in the lc already so the set is not the full montey and with the remote controlled version you can level the rear as required. Will be my solution to fix it. Rams have the same issue, infact its worse if you want to keep it registered as a car (4495kg gvm) If its LR rego'ed (5200kg or 5800kg) then its not really a problem.

Great video mate. You're aftermarket wheels (very nice btw) are most likely rated to match your new GVM but my std Toyota wheels don't have a published load rating according to a Toyota dealer I spoke with. I suspect they don't want to be held responsible if a wheels fails on a vehicle that has a GVM upgrade in excess of the std 3350kg. Just my thoughts, I could be wrong.

Ok, having viewed all 81 commences now, I would like to share my opinion on this damned subject with the low GVM in the lc200 and the nite picking for kg. We are all in the same boat but all with a different set up but similar requirements. Not talking about the daily driver lc 200. Seeing your setup and gross numbers but missing the max Axel loads numbers for your GVM upgrade how the 3840 kg are distributed ? My rear axle is 2020kg plus 1700kg front total 3720 kg = Pedders set max GVM upgrade in 2019. with new DBA T3 slotted rotors all around fitted by me. 1st. Question I could not find an answer: Toyota std rear axle max capacity ??? (Tire and rims well over 3000kg) Upgraded axles housing I recon min 2500 kg We need the max capacity in the rear axle, not front! Adding the tow ball weight with roughly 300kg will unload the front axle. (+600kg spring set fitted = well balanced fully loaded) For us now problem since we travel most of the time with van. No daily driver. As said, considering full air spring in the rear as last option. But here comes the 2nd question: what would be the max achievable higher max GVM and max rear std rear axle capacity? 3rd question: Can it be re engineered certificated in VIC and WA?? Hola.. there are so many more options to play with, it’s a learning by doing and learn from others. You mentioned you would run you lc200 with not full diesel tanks on road to gain weight. Good idea… I had the same while running 270 ltr capacity tanks. Why not pump the 100 kg diesel into the spare tank in the van? And when you need it pump it back to the car. Oh.. your van has no diesel tank for the diesel heater ??? Therefor the AGM batterie set has to go and lithium battery in. I consider also to relocate my car 2nd. spare wheel to the van and take one 2nd. Row rear seat out. Safe weight make space. Leaving wife and kids at home is NOT an option here for you mate….. Would be interesting to see some more good ideas spared from you and your audience here in the commences. I have learned allot from you and selected related good commences to get the overall picture and possible solutions for my final setup to beat the GVM war! Have a nice day and keep the sunny side up. Moving things like fuel, water and spare wheels to the van is definitely an option and something we will consider when we finally have the full setup. In terms of axles weights, yes it was something I didn't talk about here, I just didn't have access to systems that could do this for me. But they are very important to consider. Again this is something I'll try to re-visit once we have the full setup. Hadn't thought about removing a single rear seat and could definitely be something I look into. I just stick my head in the sand , seems to be working so far . Na got a pajero sport which has a payload of around 7 hundred kgs . With a ruff estimate we are well under cvm but like yourself don't think there is much wiggle room with gvm once fully loaded for camping

For sure mate. I couldn't believe how quickly the weight added up and I'm fairly conscious of my weights too. I could imagine plenty of people just adding everything for the purpose of adding it, without thinking about some of the consequences. So unfortunately I never actually officially weighed my exhaust, so I can only speak from experience by way of handling the install. In my opinion the Manta exhaust felt lighter, I put this down to the fact that it has one less muffler, which was quite heavy on the factory system. Cheers again, Nathan. 👍

For sure, many people would be shocked to see how heavy their vehicle actually are! I have heard a rumour that this bar may now be discontinued, which would be a big shame if it has been. Although I haven't confirmed this, I would recommend contacting an ARB dealer to see. ARB stockist and dealers are the authorised fitter for these bars and should be able to provide the most up to date info. Would be interested to hear how you go if you wanted to let us know? For sure, weight bridges can sometimes be out a little. I usually try and find registered weight bridges which are often a little more accurate, however this is all I had access to this time round. Will probably revisit this subject when I have my full van setup ready to go.

Cheers mate. So yes, aftermarket brakes fitted (massive difference), have had a transmission tune done previously, adjusting shift point and line pressures, but no, no cooling work completed and doesn't seem to be required at this point. Cheers.

Hey mate, I'm assuming you mean the Tare wight being the starting weight. I found this definition for Toyota themselves: Tare Mass: is the mass of a vehicle (other than L-group vehicles, such as mopeds, motorcycles and motor tricycles) ready for service unoccupied and unladen with all fluid reservoirs filled to nominal capacity, except for fuel, which shall be ten litres only and with all standard equipment and any options fitted.

Just noted this on Toyota's web site which states Nominal....Does that mean full or 10 liters? .."Kerb Mass (or Kerb Weight): is the mass of the vehicle in running order unoccupied and unladen with all fluid reservoirs filled to nominal capacity, including fuel and with all standard equipment." May have recently changed.

I'm at 3310kg so I'm left with 40kg for my wife. Either she has to diet or the car had too. I'm to selfish to stop eating junk food so the 200 just got 100kg taken off it. In the process of gvm with original Dobinsons mrra kit I got done in 2020. I just found out 3650 gvm upgrade is the biggest that can be achieved with that brand on a 200. I could start again for 5k and get a lovells or Pedders as an example and get 3800 or 3875 gvm. It sux to go to that kit and lose the resivour shocks of the Dobinsons. They are really great shocks. I've got no choice but to stick to what I have and just get the 3650 gvm. If I was to go my number 1 choice it would be Kings but out of my budget and going Bp51 and $1700 on top for engineering it's just way to much. Atleast for $4800 for lovells or Pedders that comes with compliance plates in case others wanting to know. The others don't for some reason post rego

For sure, there isn't a huge range for GVM upgrade for the 200 series and the ones that do exist aren't exactly most people's first choice for suspension. It can be a bit of a choice between comfort and legality... I hope it all works out in the end though and it works well 👍

I have a 200 Sahara and have a Lovels GVM and GCM of 7300 kegs certified and plated You didn’t mention that you have a GCM upgrade

Very nice. Unfortunately I'm unable to get a GCM upgrade post rego as this is something that needs to be done pre-rego. Very jealous of the 7.3 GCM though, would be very handy for those who are towing. Cheers, Nathan.

Good stuff, easily the most overlooked thing when it comes to 4wd'ing, don't worry about a fine, worry about the day you're in a big car accident and kill someone and they weigh your vehicle after and see that you were over your payload, or you roll your vehicle going around the corner and you had 120kg's on the roof when your 4wd only allows for 70, note: most Dual Cab ute's like Hilux, Triton ect roof capacity is only 70-80kg, this has very little to do with physical strength of the roof but roll factor and centre of gravity, if you're over that, roll your vehicle and kill someone, say hello to the inside of a jail cell.

So this wheel carrier is made by Kaymar and can be bought from most ARB dealers in Australia. Fuel, not so great on my vehicle. I'm averaging about 16-18L/100km...

This is always a subject not considered enough. It's surprising how little payload you have when you add the family into the equation. Have you looked into the off road weight carrying capacity of your truck's roof and rack? I was shocked to discover I could only put 35kg on my roof, and that included the weight of the rack.

Absolutely, there is not much loading capacity at all. Yes, I have actually done a full video on the roof rack taking about the ratings and limits of the cruiser and rack. Fortunately I get a decent rack loading on the cruiser with this setup 👍 Cheers, Nathan.

Manufactures payload/GVM is such a problem. Using a complete stock vehicle, Fill the tank up and have only the driver in it take it onto a weight bridge. It will already be 100’s of kg over the weight stated weight on the rego papers to start with leaving very little to play with. Its so confusing…..

It sure is high, but there are quite a few accessories mounted to the vehicle and I guess it all add's up. The fuel and water (and the tanks) add a significant amount of weight! Cheers, Nathan.
