Hey - just a music nerd stumbling across this comment. The chords in that following scene are simply the tonic degree shifting down to the leading tone degree. The progression in this scene is in D Major and starts out with a grandiose D Major triad (D F# A), and then moves down to a surprising C diminished 7 chord (C Eb Gb A). Since the Cdim (marked at 0.41) is played over many different octaves, and some notes in the chord are adjusted to a slightly flatter tone, it delivers a satisfactory feeling to our ears!
