because its photoscanned. quixel normally uses photoscanned models so its legit in real life things photographed then generated in a 3d programme using the photographs taken/sculpted. unreal has always been great tho but the assets are the key 🤓

It's not about the GPU at this point. Like he said it's being rendered with a single 4090 at real time. So it'd work. But sadly games that look like this would be over a TB. So storage is the problem *not* the GPU. EDIT: In 2 or 3 GPU generations the 6060 or the 7060 will probably have the same oomph as the 4090. And that's like 4 to 6 years so we'll be seeing games like these around that time. Hopefully intel and that random Chinese company steps up and help accelerate the GPU development just like how the AMD ryzen series pushed intel to make their previous generations redundant.

@@boss_niko I mean a lot of people played half life alyx. And that shit was VR. And more people owns 3090,4080 and 4090s than people with VR. So if a studio feels like the visuals are the core part of their game then they actually can release it without going bankrupt. You have to remember there are many studios that targets niche genres and small communities. And in this case that small community is rich people. Meaning a nice NFT scam game that looks good to rid them of their overflowing cash would be good for humanity. Because fuck rich people :)

Truly ironic that you mention Fortnite as it currently has the best implementation of the numerous features added in Unreal 5.1. Because of this, I'd even argue that it currently has the most technologically impressive graphics out of any videogame of all time. It's interesting how games with simplistic art styles are often used as testing grounds for cutting edge graphics. Look at Minecraft with it's path tracing shaders and 8K texture packs. I bet you wouldn't say that's a bad looking game.

OH and all those remake editions (Prime, Dead Space, RE4). The most ive seen that uses the realistic graphics are from simulator games.

What they don't tell you is that the PC this demo is running on probably has a maxed out Threadripper CPU, and probably 128GB or more of RAM. Their UE 5.0 demo requires about 64GB of RAM to run with full environment being visible. This looks great, but let's face it... it's basically only for AAA devs with the budget and resources to utilize it. Indie devs won't be using this stuff anytime soon. It's free, but not accessible.

And all the dudes saying "ain't no games gonna look like this" Well no shit. UE isn't just for games. Cinema and studios in the film industry use UE for environments. Graphics like these aren't very practical in real-time environments. It's just very helpful for staging and simulating. The increased environment fidelity is really just a step up for rendered scenes for movies/VFX

The graphics are literally designed to be optimized for real-time environments, sure it'll take a while for them to be in many games but you don't need maxed hardware when you can design and render individual areas or segments at a time.

@@Echidna23Gaming Yes, I've used it myself as well. Being designed for real time doesn't take away from the fact that it's still extremely resource heavy to edit with. If you've been following it, you would know they themselves list 64GB as a baseline requirement to run their own official demo project in editor. Plain and simple, design for or not, these new features are not always meant for games and gamers need to get it through their heads that not everything is made for them. UE is used by more than gamers and these types of features require crazy amounts of care from developers to have remotely stable frame rate.

THIS is the kind of thing we should be using AI software for, not replacing real art, artisanal work and basic human interactions. Sometimes it’s necessary for developers to “paint” the surroundings with assets when they need a super specific layout and look, but they really shouldn’t have to do that for swaths of nature. Nature is a beautiful work of art but it appears chaotic to us at first glance. This expands the horizon of development without putting artful developers out of work. If anything it would change how they do their job and allow them to focus on things which the development timeframe never allowed for
