I used to work security, it's so easy. It just takes a little clarity: You're not a cop, you're customer service and a tax write off. Just treat everyone with courtesy and ask; don't tell. Yes he used a deadly weapon against the security officer and that one had the right to defend himself, but in the end I don't think Freddy wanted to run him over and it's just a trespassing and some pallets... "Undeservedly". Deserved. I don't care what the context was. If person A knowingly drives into person B, a security guard doing his job and body blocking a potential thief, then person B has every right to shoot person A, mag dump them even. Cars are big and heavy. They can do serious damage. Security officers or guards are meant to stop theft and protect property. What's the point in having security if they can't momentarily stop someone to investigate theft allegations?

If a car is a deadly weapon and you drive forward knowing that there's a person in front of your car. That is deadly force. Cops may go against their training and body block cars because they think no sane person would dare move their car because it could result in a shooting. The security officer should not have been convicted. Why do police get to shoot people who drive into them but us normal citizens can't? The same with the 20 foot melee rule. Cops can shoot people who charge at them with a blade if they are 20 feet away, but citizens are held to a stricter standard.

I can confirm most guards either have huge egos and abuse their power or they are lazy and don't do their jobs. At my site, we were literally told if anything actually happens to abandon the premise and let police handle it. Literally just citizens in uniforms.

I remember our team hearing about this. I’ve worked Security Management in Portland for a couple of years. Definitely not the easiest city to work in this industry with some of the issues we run into on a daily basis. Getting your Armed DPSST certification takes time and it’s pivotal you understand the power you have once completed. Biggest thing is deescalation and having empathy in these situations. It’s horrible this happened the way it did, and it’s devastating for everyone affected. RIP to Freddy.

I feel like this wannabe cop saw too many "Police Activity" videos, where the cops position themselves infront of the suspect car, to stop them from leaving and otherwise use deadly force because the vehicle is like a deadly weapon. But even then, most cops jump to the side and dont even use their gun at all, they just threaten to use it and then it ends up in a chase most of the time. Also they didn't tell the suspect to leave, while blocking the only 1 possible way to leave. This is ridiculous and so cringe. Lil bro thought he has the same rights as the real police and doesn't even have a license to carry a firearm. HOLY YIKES

These "mall cops" are over stepping their boundaries. The overall property manager can hire security guards to watch the property, but the lease holder also has rights. A security guard has an obligation to check with the lease holder and verify who there vendors are. If Lowes says he is a vendor, and is there to pick up pallets. Then if he isn't doing anything wrong outside of his stated business then they should be leaving him alone
