Both consumed by revenge for their father/father figure. it's a story about getting the closure that one needs against someone. People really hated this for Joel's death and that is Idiotic. "They killed our BELOVED character" Joel is the opposite of beloved. Joel is literally a terrible person for saving Ellie he's a anti hero. He died for his actions and, tbh, deserved it. Abby is a much better person then Ellie and Joel. She spared Ellie TWICE. While Ellie blindly killed everyone she cares about. Abby had only gone for Joel and no one else and she is even redeemed for helping Lev and Yara. Ellie gets 0 redemption. Ellie having the parallel selfish decision like Joel but this time driving Dina away is some amazing writing imo. Some of the pacing is really bad in this game but overall it's really not "horrible" like everyone is saying rn.

I think this game would be less jarring for players if the storylines happened chronologically and the stories eventually come together to the events we see in the game. Deaths would have more of an impact if we spent more time at once with a character instead of jumping around. Who knows? Maybe Naughty Dog intended for the deaths to be dry in order to show how life is cruel, but I prefer the former. The exception is Joel’s death. Not only is it the major plot point that motivates Ellie throughout the game, but it’s kind of fitting given the lifestyle that he had before meeting Ellie. He’s crossed many people and now it’s catching up to him. Now I would’ve liked to see what other things Joel did that motivated Abby’s group to hunt him down as I doubt just killing Abby’s dad was the sole reason. But eh. I could’ve taken a more dramatic death.
