Proton is still extremely buggy. It's extremely hard to convert DirectX to OpenGL and not that long ago the project was still operated single handedly by a random guy in his bedroom trying to help the gaming community by himself. That fucker carried. Valve is really trying to make this work, and they have been for so long. They even made their own Linux distro called SteamOS to entice game devs to support the platform. And in recent years (I'd say last 3 years), they've published updates to Proton at such a rapid rate that the amount of supported games is mind-blowing. The issue though is that everytime they do publish an update it ends up breaking already existing features and existing compatibility in the supported games list. Is it really a problem ? Yes and no. Valve launched ProtonDB, which is basically a review website where thousands of testers try EVERY SINGLE GAME in the store with different versions of Proton and post what version worked the best. So everytime you decide to launch a game with Proton, Steam in th backend will download the appropriate Proton version. On a 2TO PC it's not an issue but on a 256GO it's such an overkill...

You know the chat is living in a bubble when they think 700$ for a compact laptop is expensive in these times we are living. A fully spec'd 11th gen i7 U series laptop is around that price and that surely doesn't come with ddr5 nor quad channel memory, graphic wise it's often behind and sometimes almost equal while Xe still having a lot of driver issues, with a tendency of eating more power to boost the cpu higher. An oled Switch cost the same, but I don't see anyone other than Nintendo bots welcoming it as Christ second coming on Earth. Seriously as if an oled display justify having a 2017 console(with a minor powersaving refresh on the cpu) sold at 50+$ than the original launch price, Switch chips are not affected by pandemic and microchip fabs being full until the next few years since it runs outdated stuff, there isn't a reason for it to cost that much after 5 years. The PSVita had an oled back in 2011 and people still shitted on it at launch for the price despite being 50$ cheaper than what the og Switch launched at.

Mobile games are already among the most profitable videogames, and companies follow the money. Most working adults with a normal social life don't have 4 hours a day to sit in front of a PC or TV. PCs don't necessarily directly compete with handhelds, but as handhelds improve in performance they are bound to attract a significant portion of PC players. Reservations for orders sold out in minutes. People who don't see handheld becoming even bigger and bigger are just being wilfully blind at this point.

@@jymere1445 That depends We Don't know yet, what games are supported. For a Handheld it is on the higher price spectrum tho Normally Handhelds range between $200-$350. For $400 you would be better off spending $100 more and buying a PS5(Stock aside) which has just overall better hardware. The Steam deck itself is impressive tho but it needs more Attention and fine tuning. Especially on the Game devs side they have to Individually Support this device to make it actually viable otherwise you won't be able to play games coming out in the next 3 years Its the same for Consoles. If the Devs would not Optimize the games for PS5 and Xbox you would have to buy new Consoles every year or two

For the preformace you are getting compared to anything esle, this is a steal. Compatibility is not really an issue if you just load windows onto it which you can do and valve is completely okay with. Sure in a few years, you might not be able to play the brand new tripple A games at 60 fps, but it wasn't made for that.

I listened to the explanation, and watched the Forza clip quite a few times, and I still don’t understand the type of game engine “lag/rubber banding” Linus mentions and at which Felix starts freaking out. I can’t really make out what he’s referring to in that clip. Can someone help me clear this up/understand that possibly? I’m confused about that lol. Either way I’m super stoked for this thing. The price is unbelievable, honestly. But I definitely do also feel it’s a huge let down Linus didn’t compare it with the Soulja console.

look at when he presses the analog for the controller left. the input is slowed its lke a 1/5th of a second but when youre playing it might annoy you and you have to play your movements ahead

it's not input lag, its a stuttering issue that forza has. Look up forza 5 stutter and there will be tons of people posting about it
