I thought I'd share how well this machine can fire up when cold (re-jetted). Its around 38F degrees outside and after changing the pilot jet up to #38, it fires right up.(I started with the main first but it made no difference to the cold start ability.) Even when I first brought it home, (was 60F degrees that day) it took a few mins to get the bike to idle. As you can see, now it starts up in the cold just fine. I'm also about a few hundred feet about sea level. Give the pilot a shot first and see what happens! Thanks for watching!
P.S -She's still dirty because I ride it constantly and its been a bit too cold.

I live in North Texas I've had no starting issues usually push the button and she fires right up when it got into the thirties I did start having to use my choke but for the most part down in the 40,s was not a big deal I want to see how it's going to do for a thousand miles or more before I start trying to adjust the Jets

sounds like a plan. It seems like some folks are having starting issues, and some don't so if your bike fires up easy then i'd leave it alone too.

I bought OEM skid plate and handguards I think my next is going to be tires I like the looks of the shinko 244 19 2.75 // 17 4.60 I have a few paved roads I ride on but mostly dirt gravel county roads . the basic simplicity of the bike is what will make it reliable as a Honda XR150L Has been in other places in the world for a very long time And still popular after 20 years that says quality reliable like the old Honda trail 70 I rode around on for what seems like forever.

I've seen other KZbinrs use the choke (on half way) is this a must? Because I love in South Florida and it starts right up in the morning at around 65°. Is there a general rule of thumb?

In the beginning, I was trying the choke at halfway, and if that didn't work, I went full choke. However, after increasing the pilot jet size, I no longer need any choke at all. Technically more choke = more rich air/fuel mixture to allow for easier cold starting. This is done by blocking the air flow with a little plate. (We will see how it does when the weather warmer...)

Something I just found out is :by increasing the idle speed(which I did) actually stops that choke from working properly???

I want to believe that Honda has everything set for a reason and I wouldn't want to touch it. Can you explain as to why they would not re-jet this at build time? Is it just cost? I also live in a colder climate and thinking about getting one and have seen a lot about the starter.

They jet this bike to pass emissions regulations, not for optimal power output. I honestly believe honda wouldn't set them up this way unless they had to due to our (USA) emissions standards.

@@TRAIL_TIME841 I appreciate you taking the time to answer that man. Really, I am just hesitant about a carb’d bike as I’ve never owned one before or any to be honest. Can I ask one more question? Is that reason enough to save my money for a fuel injected bike? Or am I just overthinking it.

@@gabrieljgrant_ No problem at all. I've personally owned only carbureted bikes until recently so I'm fairly familiar with them so I don't mind fooling around with them. With that being said, fuel injection is really nice to have and you'll never need to mess with anything unless you are going for more HP but it will usually be more expensive than a carbureted machine. Also, It's very easy to change a jet in the carb so its not a huge deal to fine tune this bike if needed.

@@solosix3991Nice feature that I didn't know about until recently. It's cold here in NJ around 30 degrees and my bike started up no problem this morning after activating the carb heater.

That's the charging cable for the battery tender.
