That setup is soo practical. Been using one for years. Just beware of the Seismic Splitter, It is not a isolated split so make sure your mixer and FOH doesn't both have 48 volt phantom power on.
@RustyDodd

this is true. if you use condensers, use individual phantom power supply in between the mics and the split snake box.

Phantom power, meaning only FOH or Xair can have it on? Not both?

Thanks, i did not realize I could mount the xr18 backwards, that will improve our cable mess so much ! Having the snake already plugged in saves a lot of time. Will get a bigger case for it and we'll be set for the next gig

This is pretty cool. If you ever feel like upgrading, the X32 Air Rackmount you can use a digital Stage box (s16, s32) and connect the stage box to the X32 with one cable, and still connect the FOH using a traditional snake.

This is great. My band just got an XR 18 and we have it in a gator case. We have the router, etc. the next step is getting the snake. I do worry though with the gigs we play that places may not be equipped to deal with the snake and we will need to figure things out quickly on the fly (sound guy wants to use amp on stage; other band sharing the bill is using their gear as the mains, etc)

@jason constantine informative and really helpful. i like the idea of everyone creating their mix on a phone on stage and just stashing them in the rack. did you just buy cheap used phones without a play and install the app on each one and connect via the XR18 network? any way to ensure they don't accidentally f-up the mix for another band member?

How close does this rack sit to the stage? Seems like you would need pretty long xlr's out of your DI's to get to the rack. You might want to consider something besides painters tape for all the labels, just a suggestion. This is awesome tho, and the XR18 is a sweet unit! I have one, and want to put something like this together at some point for my band. How cooperative are the sound people, as far as you having them connect into your system etc?

About 5 minutes in you are explaining how you hook up your snake for FOH. If their stage box has nothing plugged in then you plug into that. Makes sense. I don’t understand what you are doing when they already have mics plugged into their stage box. Are you pulling out all their xlr’s and putting yours in place? Also, do you have another snake connected to their mic cables (that I assume you pulled out of their stage box) that are routed to the input of your Seismic splitter? I notice you have all the drum mics for example going into your splitter and I would imagine you wouldn’t want to be running your own xlr’s to all their individual mics. If there is an easier way I’d love to hear it. Hopefully that all made sense. Thanks

@@JasonCGuitarOfficial ok let me see if I’ve got this straight. You have your splitter input snake and you connect those to their mics? And then your splitter output snake to FOH you plug into those mic cables you disconnected?
@DeadSoulRevival

@@JasonCGuitarOfficial ok, got it. Makes sense now. Thanks for the clarification. On the way to the inputs of your splitter are you just using individual xlr’s? It doesn’t seem like the tails on a snake would reach every mic on a stage.

Hey thanks great video! We recently got the XR18 - finding it great but got a couple questions how we can get more out of it if you can spare a minute. Is there any way for us to do a pre-mix through our mixer before all 16 channels then go to FOH? So that we can use our go-to preset effects going through to the FOH? I assume that because you have the splitter before the mixer, you cannot pre-mix/effect through your laptop through to the FOH? We would want to still allow the FOH sound technician to have control on all 16 channels on the venue in-house mixer as well. Also, cool about the phones - that didn't cross my mind to give the whole band control of their in-ear mix. Is it as straight forward as just all connecting via wifi? I wasn't aware you could get more than one device connected at a time!

can you do this without buying the rack mounted snake? couldn't you just plug an xlr-y splitter to the inputs of the XR18, with the mic going to one side of the splitter and the xlr to the front of house snake coming out of the other side of the splitter, with the male end of the splitter plugged into the XR18. Wouldn't this share the signal from one mic or input to both the XR18 and the front of house board?

I use the busses in stereo, but the iPad app doesn't work great for that. On my computer using the "X air edit" app, the busses link and work exactly like they should. You can pan the signal easily and the faders are linked. On the iPad app, none of that seems to work. The faders remain independent and it's difficult to pan the signal. So, in a long winded way, if you're using the iPad app and not having any luck linking the busses to run in stereo, try the "X air edit" app on a PC or mac. I've never used the app on a android pad, so I'm not sure about that.
