Great video! This is the only video that showed where to put the feeler gauge. Do you torque everything down to spec?

Also, if you adjust the intake side, should you also adjust the exhaust side? Or can you do one without the other

@@jaketester9555 thanks Jake. I use the torque specs from the Honda manual and Inalways do both the intake and exhaust since I'm already there.

@@Woodman_Custom_Sawing open up the front tappet cover look in there when turning engine over to tdc,the cam lobe will be facing forward and down slightly on the correct stroke of engine at tdc. You should also explain this as if cam was facing opposite way you be changing tappet clearences on the wrong stroke which I know a few peeps have over the years on these old thumpers 👍

@@Rust_valley_adventures Facing forward towards the intake valves or towards the exhaust valves? So as i understand it. There is 2 options when on compression stroke, the lobes are either facing one way or the other.?
@Woodman_Custom_Sawing
@Woodman_Custom_Sawing 4 жыл бұрын
@@Rust_valley_adventures That is why I took the time to explain how to figure out that you are on the compression stroke using your finger over the spark plug hole. 6 in one, half doz in the other, pick the method you like the best. For me, I like to use the finger over the plug hold and set it to the T mark like Momma Honda told us to do. If you follow my process as described you will not make the mistake of adjusting them on the wrong stroke. Thanks for watching!

Have you ever had trouble with the auto decompression mechanism. On mine, if the engine rolls backwards 1mm while trying to find TDC, it’s enough to engage that auto decomp on the RH side exhaust valve. Major pain. Just curious if I am the only one who has this problem.
@Woodman_Custom_Sawing
@Woodman_Custom_Sawing 3 жыл бұрын
I have not had that problem. You definitely never want it to roll backwards because of that exact issue. You will always be better off stopping before or just slightly after the T mark than letting it roll back a tiny amount.

Why you use Chain clip not riveter Chain? Clip is OK , how is your opinion?
@Woodman_Custom_Sawing
@Woodman_Custom_Sawing 3 жыл бұрын
Most chains I've use have a mater link and clip. I've only had an issue once. Keep a spare link and clip in the tool pouch just in case but I never worry.

Did you not remove the decomp lever cable? I’ve heard you are suppose to do this when adjusting valves

@@Woodman_Custom_Sawing okay! Just something I heard people do but didn’t know why
@Woodman_Custom_Sawing
@Woodman_Custom_Sawing 3 жыл бұрын
@@kawi4ev if your cable is that tight then no valve adjustment will help. Its more important that you don't turn the engine backwards away any time during this process because the stock cam has an automatic decomp mechanism that will open the exhaust valves. If you pass the T mark you have to go back around in the forward direction. Put the bike in first gear and roll the rest tire, you'll have better control than using the kick lever.
@kawi4ev
@kawi4ev 3 жыл бұрын
when you go to line up the T, are you rotating the wheel to move it?
@Woodman_Custom_Sawing
@Woodman_Custom_Sawing 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you need to roll over the engine to align the T mark. Make sure you roll over the engine in the proper direction as if it was running. I find it easiest to put the bike in first gear and roll the tire in the forward direction. Much easier than using the kick lever.
@kawi4ev
@kawi4ev 3 жыл бұрын
@@Woodman_Custom_Sawing where I am confused is when you say about putting it in 5th gear to align the stroke? You can’t just try to line the t up without doing that first step?
@Woodman_Custom_Sawing
@Woodman_Custom_Sawing 3 жыл бұрын
@@kawi4ev you can use the kick start lever to roll the engine over but what I found was I overshot the T mark often using the kick lever. An alternative is to put the transmission in 5th gear and then roll the tire until the t mark is aligned. Why 5th gear? Because it the gear ratio makes it so that your input on rolling the wheel is not very sensitive.

What could happen if I went one size up to .007 on the intake gap
@Woodman_Custom_Sawing
@Woodman_Custom_Sawing 3 ай бұрын
It would work fine and would not cause damage. You definitely don't want to use less than 0.006" or you could hang open a valve which would cause lose of performance and possibly damage.
