Each of the lenses of the Xreal Air AR glasses features a 1080p display, and the glasses can act as a second monitor for any USB-C or HDMI device.
During the making of this video Nreal changed their company name to Xreal. The Xreal Air/Nreal Air products are the exact same but this is why you'll hear me using the old name throughout the video.

This is why I love technology; it’s like magic with endless possibilities to be done! I could definitely see how having an air screen would benefit in a lot of ways. It’s basically a monitor/display that’s no bigger than a couple of inches on your eyes projecting to give the wearer a much larger display for work and recreation. Once the tech is more commonplace and it’s been developed a bit more, I will be getting a pair most definitely. Great video

Thanks for the unbiased review! However, given when this video is coming out, I would have loved to see how things change with the xreal beam add on. It's $110 more but addresses a few concerns like the multiple adapters needed for the switch as well as holding the screen in place when the head is rotated. Would love to see a follow up when the beam is available to review!

You forgot to mention that most people with a Samsung phone don't realize that their USBC port is also Display Port capable and anytime they plug a monitor into that port, it launches a full blown windows-like operating system called DEX. Pair that with Bluetooth keyboard and mouse and you have a full blown computing environment. You can also buy a handheld trackball mouse called Elecom Relacon that has built in back/fwd, and media controls, and it's the perfect companion for your ultra mobile Samsung/Xreal setup.

I've tried them, and they are the future, they are light, they have an open field of view and look cool. Of course, the software still needs a lot of work, but they are getting there. Also in terms of hardware, they have introduced Beam, which helps with both battery and connectivity. I'm amazed none of the big tech manufacturers haven't bought them yet.

i am really interested with Xreal Air + Beam, my main concern is that they can't display better than a 1080p screen. so 1920x1080 That's the resolution i used 10y ago, then i needed more, 2650x1440, and then i needed even more. Actually, i work on a 32" at 3008x1692 and it's perfect, and if i could have a bigger screen, i would be happy to work on a 40" at native 4K (3840x2160) It's possible in real life but the size of the monitor would need lot of space on my desk. Space that i don't have. BUT ... This could be possible with Xreal Air if they would have 2 head-mounted screen at 4K, and not 1080p Maybe in a future version of the product ? I asked them and no answer (obviously). so i'm waiting

@@alexandrevery The Beam allows you to increase your screen size or zoom in. If you have the Xreal Air and Beam you can experiment with this. Play a 1080p video, then zoom or scale it with the Beam, you will notice the pixels. Now switch it to 4k and do the same thing, quality scales when you zoom! There's also a trick you can do with PCs or laptops where you're connect to 4K TV or monitor... now just connect or swap over to your Xreal Airs with Beam. The same zooming and scaling test will apply. In 2D it doesn't matter because it's 4K on a 1080p screen. But in 3DoF that the Beam provides, you are exploring 4K resolution in 1080p. It's hard to explain, you have to try it!

I discovered this device on Apple WWDC when the vision was introduced and i was dismayed by the $3499 price tag. I had the XReal Air’s at my house by the end of the week. The Air’s are a compliment to your phone the same way AirPods Pro’s are. The angle for this device to me is that you can have a 120 inch screen for whatever device you go and not attract the type of attention that the Apple Vision Pro will. If you’re a student in a dorm when paired with your phone and headphones these glasses turn into a 120 screen to watch your movies and not disturb your roommate while studying. Or if someone else is watching TV and you still wanted to view your content on a movie like screen. At $379 this is an ecosystem I can support and wouldn’t mind upgrading when they come out with new hardware. I’ve personally never considered mobile gaming until this, but it turns your phone into a decent game system on the go. I think Apple is missing out in millions by not making an affordable device like this that augments the user experience on the devices they already produce 🤷🏾‍♂️.
@zero11010

This is a great testimonial. Thanks. Apple has no interest in releasing inexpensive products. They want the cache that comes with being an expensive premium thing. Take the AirPods Max and their competitor headphones that all cost about 33% less (a good hundred dollars). I work in tech. Every director level engineer I work with has a pair of the AirPod Max.

"I think Apple is missing out in millions by not making an affordable device like this that augments the user experience on the devices they already produce 🤷🏾‍♂." I think you are missing Apple strategy. The Vision Pro is NOT a product designed to be sold. And they won't sold it. They will sell some to a bunch of developpers, content creators and some happy few, but this is not the main point. The VisionPro is here to be the first step to "spacial computing", and the "big money" will come later, with affordable products Apple makes tons of money every quarters with AFFORDABLE products : iPhone, iPad, Airpods, Apple Watch and ... the Macbook Air. Forget the rest (Mac Pro, Macbook Pro, etc), the real money comes from that simple list of affordable products. They are affordable, but above all they offer a great experience, and that's why people buy it. Next Apple's AR/VR product will be the same : priced between $500 and $1500, so affordable, and offering the same (or better) experience than Vision Pro initiated.
@zero11010
@zero11010 11 ай бұрын
@@alexandrevery I think you’re losing sight of what affordable is. You’re pointing at the lower priced items they offer. Those items are still upper end to mid tier for the type of item they are. It’s easy to get a competent, cheaper phone, basic laptop, smart watch, or Bluetooth headphones than what Apple offers. They certainly are missing out on units sold with their pricing policy. They’re not priced to be affordable. They’re digital Gucci. That’s their plan. Gucci has less expensive things, but even those are on the more expensive side and it’s still easy to find alternatives that are cheaper.

I'm more interested in the quality. I think this setup (glass just displays) is the best solution, and it's the other devices that are the issue. It would be nice to have an option for battery pass-through that would change both devices, though! I'm sure if something like this becomes popular, that would happen. It's all about the quality? Is there a screen door effect? What is it like with the front panel on. I care more about travelling than I do the fixed positions. Steam deck and Phone seem like the win. I wonder if DEX can work?

The biggest issue is the field of view isn’t big enough. So if your face isn’t a certain parameter it will be very uncomfortable and you won’t get a clear screen. They really need to increase the size of the screen to fix the issue. The nose piece does help but it only put pressure on your nose and that isn’t idea. Also my glasses have already got a crack in the side from normal wear. I did finally get in contact with support and they seem to be willing to fix them. But the quality needs to be addressed or make the parts easily replaceable. But with all that said. I do love them and recommend them. The plane ride and passing time at work have really helped. Just some tweaking and this thing will be gold.

But, as far as demonstrating how big the screen is, that is very unclear. Also, when Xreal talks about this they always talk about the virtual screen size (it’s something like 107 inches or whatever though this changes based on what you’ve got it connected to.

There's going to be an optional "Beam" device sold separately. This device will act as the smart brains for the glasses for resizing/reorienting the screens, as well as easier 3rd party device connection and additional battery. Field of view is 54° or something close. So the produced image could be that large, but when using my meta quest 2 to do similar tasks it's fairly comfortable to make the simulated screen roughly 50". These would be far more comfortable than the meta quest tho seeing as they're only 2oz.

It's a big step in the right direction. To analogize, it's like we're in the 80's of PC where things are more of a cool novelty but not practical enough for everyone to replace their day's workflow with yet. But in the next 10 years, AR will be like the 90's computers where everyone will start using it but it won't yet be fully refined. Only after the 2nd decade will it be so refined that it becomes now seemlessly integrate into society. So that's around 2040's.

@TheJonHolstein
@TheJonHolstein Жыл бұрын
They aren't AR glasses (AR means Augmented reality and they don't have any Augmented Reality features). They are glasses that offers a screen, without any fancy VR tech. And as such, the concept has it's uses. But the screens are too small. And the block-out should be attached to the glasses, so it is more a case of just flipping it up for the few occasions when you might need to grab that gaming controller, or remote to control playback... sure you could just take them off, if it was possible to design them to be easier to take off, and we are probably a couple of years away from that. I would really love to have a pair of glasses that just offers a big screen. And at this point, the Vision Pro, still seems to be the best for that, in terms of image quality, and with the potential of playback of 3D films, but they are unnecessarily complex, with the sensors, the fake eyes and all of that, which makes sense for some VR functionality and for use in an office or similar. But as just something to watch media on to replace a large TV/Projector, or for portable media playback when travelling or to take with you, to make sure you have access to a big screen no matter where you go on holiday or for work, the Vision Pros are too complex. And I'm unsure if any non-pro version would just drop those features, to just work as media glasses. And I would not expect a non pro version to come with the same quality of screens... But perhaps they could do a Apple TV Glasses Pro, for that.

This video has bad timing. It also seems like it was reviewed, but the product itself wasn’t researched. This is like reviewing and critiquing the PS5/XBOX for the first time when the Pro version comes out at the end of the month. This month Xreal is releasing the Beam which allows users to enlarge the screen at will up to 330 inches as well as make it stationary so it doesn’t move when the glasses move. It also makes connecting to the Switch a one cable affair as opposed to the dongle mess you saw on this video. It also it has Airplay if you want to use that as an option to display IPhones. It’s been available to pre-order for at least 6 weeks now.

I'd give it bone conduction speakers for one thing. That's just common sense. They are tiny, no one else can hear the sound, and they don't block your ears. 2nd, I'd use smart-tint so that you can control the tint of the glasses...that's another easy one to do. Then the software can control the tint instead of putting a cover over them to black them out and look like a blind person. It could even be programmed to automatically adjust to how bright it is outside...again pretty simple to do. There's a TON of other stuff I would do, also have a brilliant idea for a very simple handheld device that would act as a mouse / touchpad and make the input like 100x better. I had written all these ideas out like 8 years ago for the perfect smart glasses. I had all the ideas and it was glorious, just didn't have the resources to actually make the things. Also appearance is another big part of it...they made these things so unaesthetic. With the hardware they are using they could have made them far more stylish. If they did this right this would be HUGE. Imagine if Steve Jobs were alive and created these things. They would be the hottest product right now. They wouldn't be able to keep them in stock. Finally people would start getting rid of their hunchbacks and messed up necks. I really hope they make improvements to these. TBH though they are already pretty damn cool for that price point.

Qualcomm Snapdragon AR2 processor is out and all AR glasses manufacturers are already working on the next big thing. As a lightweight mobile display, you can't go wrong jumping in on this early.

I heard that with the steam deck you can't "fix" the screen. I mean if you move your head the screen stay in front of you. To me it's a limitation. I prefere having the screen simulated like it was somewhere fixed in the room with a "switch button" to navigate between fixe screen and moving screen.

You failed to mention it has NO motion sensor, so the image moves whenever you move your head instead of remaining in the same spot.

The Beam solves this. It's another product XReal will be offering that enhances it to act more like a wireless smart display. Resizeable stable 3dof displays, easier connection control.

Note: Device must support USB-C with video out! Doesn't work on pixel 7 pro. You should be able to connect to any device with the xbeam(extra $109.00), but waiting on mine to come in the mail to confirm.

I got them, usfortunatly your head has to stay still, which is imposible since we are use to move our head all the time to see better the corners of a screen, now, I pre-order the beam device, that is going to be revolutionary,.

Questions to the users, do you continue using this glasses after the novelty has worn off? Or is this sort of like VR headsets?
@sdmods619
@sdmods619 11 ай бұрын
AR glasses are much lighter than VR and far easier to put on and take off. Also, my Quest 2 sits unused because I'm too lazy to wash my oily face first before I use it. I don't have to worry about that with AR glasses. I use my Xreals as a mobile display, which is what most people use it for. It dwarfs my TV and and hand held screens and I can lay completely flat on my bed or recliner in a relaxed state.

If you are using it through the phone software, the screens stay in place when you move your head (not sure how placeable the windows/screens are, though). Maintaining a relative position has to be done by the external source (but can use the glasses' internal gyros), so simple video sources are displayed in a fixed position that stays in front of you when you move your head. A new accessory called the Beam is being released that will pass-through video, adding the spatial processing. That might be enough to get these to use with my Steam Deck when travelling.

Is there any reason why the optical lens couldn't be the same size as the glasses lens so that there isn't the bottom of the lens in the middle of your vision? They're probably just getting enough sales and not changing anything.

NGL, the nreal glasses, got me hyped, and I was planning to get one until Apple announced their Vision Pro. Yes, the nreal, now called the XREAL, is cheap and light. However, the Vision Pro offered what I wanted in an AR/VR headset. It will also fit perfectly in my Apple ecosystem. XREAL will still be my second option for AR/VR experiences despite it not being either in an ideal situation.

xreal glasses may stay in the competition, that's a question of pros ans cons. Apple Vision Pro will certainly offer some great surprises and new usages BUT the thing i really need now is the ability to have the same "big screen" that sit on my desk, external monitor of my Macbook Pro ... but have it everywhere. Both of them allows it, but not the same specs. Xreal glasses are limited to a 1920x1080 screen ... too limited for me. Vision Pro is limited to 4K which fit my needs. On the other hand, Xreal glasses are lighter and you can wear them in real life without people looking at you like you are Robocp Apple Vision Pro ... is very expensiv, not available since months, and you can't wear it everywhere No one is the perfect solution, the ideal would be a 4K version of Xreal glasses

@@alexandrevery I have to be honest. Life is living from paycheck to paycheck, and after some complex reasoning from wishful thinking, it would be nice to have the Vision Pro, but it is over my budget. My second option became my first, and I bought the Xreal Air because of the new Nebula Mac OS beta app, which allowed for three monitor displays. I was pleasantly surprised at the 400 nits of sharp brightness and the glasses' lightweight. It doesn’t have the unique feature the Vision Pro offers, but it does just what I want. I can use the Xreal Air to be productive or enjoy a movie, and the battery life is dependent on the source of the attached device (MacBook, iPad, or iPhone). I am happy for the Xreal Air purchase until I can afford the Vision Pro in the future,
