I think that’s part of it but I think it was black because black absorbs heat from the sun so it’s more of a representation of tanjiro using sun breathing or something similar but when they mentioned black not being common and that black sword users don’t live long it makes u wonder if those that had a black Katana were capable of learning sun breathing or at least parts of it

Fun fact: every new sword tanjiro got kept chipping and breaking because it isnt the fact he wasnt skilled with his breath it was because tanjiro’s breathing style (sun breathing) actually needed a special type of material to be created into a sword because normal nichirins do not have the durability to handle his breathing technique.

Don’t mean to sound rude if I do saying this, That is in fact not Tanjiros dad. It is a far descendant of him. Him and Tanjiros father has a different name, his fathers name was Tanjuro while the ancestor was named Sumiyoshi. Sumiyoshi learned the sun breathing from Yoriichi then turned it into the hinokami kagura dance promising Yoriichi to pass down the earrings and the sun breathing to his descendants after Yoriichi left. You can even search it on Google if you want to double check.
