Someone taking so many deep breaths while speaking about something clearly indicates an attitude towards it . I assure you these sights work well on moving targets , not just targets moving in a predetermined direction but in an erratic way , and multiple targets skipping from one to the other at distances past where instinctive shooting negates the need of aiming , they will possibly not get shots in the 10 ring at 33 feet but in a defense situation one doesn't wait for a perp to stop so an eye shot is possible.

One thing to add, XS Big Dots are optimized for stress, not for speed. I've been running them on my EDC G19 for nearly 5 years and have trained and practiced a lot with them. I personally don't have the issues that you have described. While I know most pistol fights aren't at distance, I still make 25 yard and 50 yard hits regularly on 10" steel. But yes, they are designed for typical "pistol distances". My next gun purchase I plan to try out Trijicon HDs.

I got mine simply because I wear glasses. In the event that they get knocked off my face in a scuffle -- which is likely -- using the Big Dot sights, in conjunction with my impaired vision, really helps me pick up the front sight a lot easier than with traditional sights. I'm still able to deliver accurate shots at relatively close distances. Without glasses, I'd be hard-pressed to hit anything at distance regardless of the sights I chose. Lets be honest though... Aaron's right. While they fill my particular need, if I had 20/20 vision or better I wouldn't have spent the money on them. I'd be using the traditional sights.

I absolutely agree with you, Chris. I had definitely thought about getting an RMR before I put the sights on my gun. However, the problem I faced was that I would have had to send my gun off for the slide to be milled. With that said, I don't have a collection of guns as. What I do own strictly serves a utilitarian purpose -- self defense. I train with one pistol; and, because of that, sending it off for any length of time wasn't an option for me as it would have left me unarmed. So, that left the only other option which were the Big Dots. Hope that makes sense.
@flyingplumber2267 жыл бұрын
Johnny B. Goode I agree, I wear contacts and practice regularly without them in. I can acquire the big dots slightly faster when my vision is impaired but still prefer, some type of traditional sights. I recently picked up a set of I-dots as I have always ran HD's. The I-dots may be my "new" favorite when it comes to irons. I still prefer my RMR over any of the latter tho.
@stevenmarcus27094 жыл бұрын
XS sights are top notch, Btw... you say this from a point of personal experience, not knowledge. I perform better at all ranges with XS sights than I ever had with traditional sights especially at long range such as 50 to 120 meters. Reason being is beyond that close bad breath distance the point of impact is above the very top edge of the front sight (6 o’clock hold) this giving the shooter complete and perfect vision of the target. Straight money.
@bigaarmory1007 жыл бұрын
My .02, I run XS Big Dots on my CCW Glock 43. I am almost 50 and my eyesight focus inside of arms reach has been in a constant decline the last five years. The XS Big Dots provide me with a decided advantage over traditional sights for speed and sight alignment when I am NOT wearing glasses (I only wear glasses to read). Walking around, driving, shopping, going out to eat, stopping for fuel and other everyday tasks are accomplished without glasses and these are the most common times I may encounter a self defense scenario. I run traditional three dot sights on my other handguns in which I wear prescription lenses when shooting (except a Glock 17 MOS that I run a RMR and do not need glasses) and I am more accurate at distance with the three dot sights vs the XS Big Dots however I don’t carry these other handguns for CCW.

My favorite sights on the market hands down are a combination of the Ameriglo Pro-Glo front with an Ameriglo Operator (NOT Pro Operator) rear. I like squared edges not U-Notch, I don't like a super wide rear notch, I don't like 2 dot configurations, and I like a high-vis front with a nearly blacked out rear. These sights are the only ones that filled every one of those requirements. This combination gives you a nice low profile, tight sight picture with a bright orange front that draws your eye to it like a magnet. I have tried so many sights and these are by far the best for me. They are a good deal too, I would happily pay double for them if Ameriglo charged that much lol.

I have just added the latest DXT2 Pro to my EDC. This is their latest model of the floating tennis ball. I went full circle on my carry gun dropping the red dot and pistol light that have been using for years. For me my speed for hits on target out to 15 yards is faster, especially with kinetic shooting. The dot is obviously more precise all the way out to 25 yards for me but so far I am noticing improved speed on the move.

It's best to try a number of different types of sights to find out what works best for YOU. It may be XS or it more than likely won't. Just take what others say with a grain of salt. But the key is to find out which works best for you within a reasonably short amount of time & pray that you figure it out BEFORE you need to press them into service in a defensive situation. And in my eyes you should never stop trying new types or ideas because what works for some might not work for others & a new type or idea may work best for you.

I own Trijicon HD's, XS big dots, and ameriglo pro I-dots. The only advantage IMO to big dots is for people that wear corrective lenses or glasses. I myself wear contacts and if I were to loose both contacts at the same time, it is easier/quicker for me to find the Big dots then anything else. Other then that advantage, I prefer "traditional sights" and is what I run. I do have a pair of big dots on a G26 still, but that's mainly because I have not replaced them with I-dots yet.

Unless these sights add some sort of value for you or fill a nitch, such as your eye sight going to shit or they are for your 70 year old grandma's home defense gun, I would say as well as Aaron, stay away from these sights, there literally is no point to them if you actually do the research and testing. Use sights that give you the ability to be more accurate & precise at all distances, don't assume or presuppose. I used XS Big Dots for 5 years because I drank ALL the Kool-aid from multiple instructors, but I learned on my own I was handicapping myself and this video explains it perfectly.

Faster with XS Big Dot out to 15 yards and as accurate. Now does it drop after? Yes, then speed equals and from there to 25 yards I stay the same but my acquisition is still faster with Big Dot. Now for your arguement if I need a little more distance I like a U Notch or something like XS F8 or Figure 8 or Straight 8. The more important thing is just train and shoot and shoot and master the sight to the best of your ability. However, as you get older the XS Big Dot will become more useful as sight starts diminishing. If you need a range sight and you don't need a self defense sight absolutely you can pass but self defense Big Dots just work very well. I suggest by the sight for the purpose the gun you are putting a sight on. Does it have a mounted light on it? That will change and make more options available, these are things I ask before giving advice. Now once I need a 3 dot sight traditional sight it's the point I find I'm looking at an RMR or a fiber optic. With fiber optics I want different color combo front and rear with a light that way I'm not going to possibly have a mistake with the dot at night. If you train every week any sight can work if your civilian XS Big Dot are what you need. Now LE is a different story but if you are a civilian you shouldn't shoot in my opinion no further than 30 yards in self defense. But if you are using a hand gun even at that range unless they are armed you may end up in jail taking a shot at that distance if they are considered not to have been a threat to your or anyone's life. Everything has a purpose and you should use what is best for the purpose that fits that situation.

YES!!! Thank you! Finally someone who didn't drink the Yeager Kool-Aid about these damn sights. I had them on my Glock 19 for over a year and could not for the life of god hit a damn thing. I started to doubt myself and my physical ability to shoot a round where it's supposed to land at ~15 yards. All my friends who came to shoot (not regular shooters, some complete newbies) all talked about "those wonky sights" and were also not very successful at hitting anything, this changed with other friend's guns with traditional sights. I finally switched the sights on my Glock 19 for Meprolight tritium sights and hey, I hit stuff! I dislike Big Dots because they are apparently just not for me or anyone of the people I went shooting with. Also nice you mentioned the 100m shot on steel, I know exactly which shot you mean by that. Man I have to be trained by you when I'm in the States.

I ended up with one of their smaller size front sights and a 10-8 Performance on the Springfield Armory TRP that I had long ago. That was the best setup for me of all I experimented with. But the Big Dot sights alone have never set my world on fire the way they do for some. I'm not as picky about sights as some people, though. I've used the tiny little blades on BB guns as a child, the early GI-style sights on 1911s, the giant plastic squares on revolvers and everything else. I've never found one set of sights that seemed massively superior to everything else.

@@jbest4765 I ended up switching to Night Fision brand sights and have never been happier! They now have so many amazing options, especially when it comes to setting up the perfect cowitness with micro red dot sights. I've tried out all the major brands including trijicon but in my opinion night fision have the most consistent, well made iron sights to exacting tolerance. The brand actually has a few government contracts when it comes to their patented tritium gas so they also guarantee the brightest tritium on the market that lasts up to 3+ years longer than any of the competition.... Currently own 5 sets of their sights, 2 of which are on pistols with red dots using lower 1/3 cowitness. Installing the sights on your pistol the very first time can be a tad tricky due to their tolerance being better than anything else out there. I've had to take a bit of material off of each set using a whetstone but as long as you follow their directions and instructional videos you'll be perfectly fine..... I even screwed up and took too much material off the rear sight for my Walther pdp 4.5". Contacted the company, told them the situation and all they asked of me was to take a picture of the sights and email them back. Within about 5 days they sent me a brand new set free of charge. Their customer service is great..... The ONLY negative is that they can be very pricey.... But if you wait for black Friday / memorial day sales or others or the like you can get some insanely good deals. Good luck finding what your after.... Keep me updated with whatever you decide!

My Tp9sf Elite has factory sights and I don't see a difference speed wise at all. Standard glock sights on my g17, hate the rear but in the moment running a course, I normally forget about the sight picture. Only on the long or hostage targets do I slowdown enough to think about it. The XS sights seem to only require you to grip the gun the same way for the rear to be lined up. I have shot with them, I had no problem hitting the target with the sights all the way out to 25-30 yards, mind you I was not attempting to obtain sight picture as fast as possible either, I never took the time to compare them to my regular sights simply because I just wanted to check them out. I thought they preformed adequately. I personally however would not buy these sights to put on my pistols, simply because the sights on my Glocks are more than adequate and I can invest that money into something else I wish to have, say a red dot optic or ammo. Zach Bailey - I have a glock 19 with big dots and really like the set up. Dot the i and pull the trigger. I can shoot them just as well as standard 3 dot out to about 40-50yrds. I ended up getting a tritium small dot for my ar front post thinking it would be awesome. I absolutely hated it. I felt like i couldn’t hit anything. At 50 yrds the dot covered the torso of the target and my accuracy really suffered. Its now sitting on my gun safe in the original box. I’ll sell it cheap ;)

While I agree with most of what you said, I disagree with the distance argument. As an armed civilian there will come a distance where you will have a hard time justifying "self defense". I know a lot of the keyboard warriors in the comments fantasize about making shots on active shooters at 50-100 yards but that's just not the reality of most shootings. I can keep all my shots on a 3x5 index card at 10 yards with mine. I think if you need to be more precise than that you probably need a rifle. Or maybe just leave?
@Blindgibbon7 жыл бұрын
Justified is Justified, distance is just one of many many elements. gunssavelives.net/self-defense/armed-citizen-in-tx-stops-shooting-spree-and-saves-cop-by-making-150-yard-shot-with-a-pistol/
@dragonballjiujitsu7 жыл бұрын
Again I'm not saying it can't happen but if you look at the data the typical self defense shooting is almost always inside 10 yards. Normally much less. Muzzle contact to maybe 5 yards. I'd also say that under stress there are maybe 5 people in the world who can reliably pull that kinda shot off with a pistol and not be a bigger danger to bystanders. The hero mentality bullshit needs to die. As does watching too many movies.
@Blindgibbon7 жыл бұрын
That data is compromised mainly of shootings involving law enforcement who actively seek to apprehend the bad actor unlike civilians who are normally trying to create distance, for one. Secondly, statistics are just that statistics. They can not and do not predict the future. If you chose all of your training, gear, edc requirements based solely on statistics, you wouldn't train, you wouldn't have "gear" you wouldn't carry and EDC because, statistically nothing will ever happen to you. So why handicap yourself with sub-par sights?
@deank56497 жыл бұрын
i think i love you Mark lol that was perfectly said brother
@dragonballjiujitsu7 жыл бұрын
They are "sub par" if YOU can't use them correctly. Some ppl don't seem to have any problems with them. So in your mind, for what you envision yourself being in, they may be sub par. I guess you could say the light I carry is "sub par" because it's only 300 lumens and not 800. Or the gun a carry is "sub par" because its ONLY a 9mm not a 45. I suppose if you can't use them for whatever reason don't buy them. I think for others they are a great choice. Me personally I'll be the one leaving and not trying to take a 100 yard shot on someone with innocents around. But to each their own.

Sorry sir but I must disagree. I've been using big dots on all my glocks for some time now and find I can get good hits as far as I should be shooting a handgun. I guess it just comes with practice.

I am cross eyed dominant it just looks like metal and the orange I got was not bright enough for me and hate the rear sight. I am gonna try the Trijicon XD XR night sights. I have a red dot on one of my handguns and love it but hard to conceal it. I use it at night at home but the m&p shield plus I like out away from the home gonna try the Tjijicon on it wished I would have waited and got the M&P plus red dot ready oh well.

Funny you made this video, I'm going to be honest I have a pair of xs on my 19 but for the past few months I've been thinking about switching them cause I have a 17 that has Wilson combat sights and I like those way more thatn my xs and agree with you opinion on this video hit it right on the nail.
@DanielBoone3373 жыл бұрын
I'm right there with you they freaking suck!!! I put a set on 2 guns then went in the backyard to shoot. After about 200 rounds between both guns I went right back inside took them off of both guns and threw them in the trash... I can use a set of 3 dot sights up close and at distance I can't do that with xs big dots with any degree of accuracy...
@edwardwoltman38274 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your opinion but "Express" sights have been used for quick shots for years on big game rifles for dangerous game in Africa. The company took that and ran with it for CQB...IMO, they're excellent for what they're intended for and my 30yrs. as an instructor tells me so....omo.

Edward Woltman an appeal to authority isn’t going to cut it here. My background is public knowledge and more than a few videos cover it. Also, the sights are still in novel use. If they were as superior as supporters claim, more people would use them and that’s absolutely not the case.

I found your video looking for information about Big Dots. Your view is very different than most and you do a Very good job explaining why. My interest in Big Dots is due to my aging eyes with progressive focus glasses. I can shoot my P365 very well out to 25 ft or so, just take a lot of time bobbing my head looking for focus.(Don’t really have a place to shoot any farther). My issue is the little bitty dots in the Sig x-ray sights. I was hoping the Big Dots would be easier to see. What’s your thoughts on “Red Dots”?

Eric Staton and you all are the haters he talks about. A bunch of guys who have never heard of him will now look him up and even if it's 1/100 of those guys goes to a class with him then he wins. He's making money while you are shit talking on the internet. Cool story bro.

I'm a huge fan of Yeager's and I like the big dots I have on my xd, for me they work better then the sights they came with. He is allowed to disagree and have different opinions, if everyone thought the same it would be a boring world. Don't dismiss the man, or his ability to impart knowledge just because he disagrees with Yeager, or what you have spent money on.
@johobo20387 жыл бұрын
SageDynamics you didn't bring him up. I've trained with him a couple times and think he's a stand up individual. You also come across as a very knowledgeable guy. Hence why I watch your videos and plan to train with you at some point in the future. I was merely pointing out the fact which he actually made a video about. "Do feed the trolls" was the name of the video. These folks are those trolls and it's entertaining to watch.

Max Lizana I wasn't talking about Aaron in my comment. I was talking about the little circle jerk that inevitably happens every time something comes up that James would disagree with. Aaron has every right to his opinion and I actually stated in a comment above that I more agreed with him than James on this topic. Aaron never brought Yeager up. The other dudes did. My comment was in no way directed to sage dynamics.

Zak Kyle 6.5 on handguns, 2 on rifles. Though you can't really compare RDS size to iron sight sizes because they are used differently

Here's my experience with big dots vs regular sights. Looking for a fantastic group? Big dots are not for that, 3 dot irons rule. Trying to get a flash sight picture while clearing the house in changing light? Big dots all the way, even over 3 dot tritiums; the white from the dot says visible in almost all lighting. Target identification? Big dots. A hostage shot at 7yds? I would not feel comfortable at all attempting that with big dots. I went back to 3 dot sights and lost a fraction of a second in sight aligment but the accuracy is so much better I'll take it.
