It's easy to see why Super GT hurts his tires so much. Just look at the steering angle he uses (the red dot). He's at 100% in many of the high speed corners. He's over-driving the grip of the car and basically sliding through the corners. The perpetual tire squeal is a dead give away. Compare to Cherep and you'll see he uses less angle in those corners.

The other problem was the fact that the Cayman had more grip overall than the Mclaren due to its great center of gravity and aerodynamics thus it never had to rely as heavily on the tires for grip.

In my race I set Fuel Consumption at 3 from the last 3 corners of lap 4, and slipstreaming the hell out of lap 5 and pitting at the end of it. Having less power on the wheels helped me to keep control of the car despite the worn tires, and I could also skip refueling (the fuel was exactly right to end the race switching to Fuel 1).

The Alfa was great for this round - did not have to save fuel at all or do a pitstop as the tire wear was very good. I got passed down the straights as its so slow but the time i saved by not pitting meant they could not catch me before the end as not enough laps to real me in.

I had a number of success' in this round, think I finished 3rd, 2nd, 1st, then had an iffy qually so finished 7th, then was destroyed in the final race but fought back for a 7th again.
