@@Super_GT by now, the online mode is at least in the same lvl that we have for GT Sport? Is it accurate to say that GT Sport online mode is the baseline for GT7 online mode and we tend to get even more with updates? GT7 keeps the two rating systems for skills and sportsmanship?

FYI, the raytracing mode is exactly what you suggested. It reverts to 60fps RT off while racing and only uses RT in menus and replays. I don't know if you misread it or if it's just poorly explained, but unless you really want 60fps replays there's basically no reason to use the framerate mode

This is definitely the most thorough and detailed review of the game I've seen so far, and the only one I could find that seemed to be strongly from a sim racer perspective. Extremely useful and what finally put me over the top for a last minute pre-order, thanks in no small part to the detailed discussion of the physics. Thanks! (PS: From what I've seen from other reviewers who concentrated almost exclusively on frame rates and rendering and such suggests that the game is actually set up the way you were hoping, ie when you enable ray tracing, it shows replays in 30fps with ray tracing, but the actual racing is still *always* in 60fps and with ray tracing disabled.)

I’m kinda missing an offline championship mode, like they have in AC, ACC and F1 games. Especially for a single player focused game. The last to first challenges get old a bit quick. Would love to have qualification sessions with the ai etc.

I'm so grateful for a huge single player game finally. All these years the market is 100% just on the online multiplayer, what is pretty bad. Games like dragon Ball kakarot show's that we still need single player. And I'm really excited to see that change of the physics, for me GT sport was aways just put your car in the right place and use all the extension of the track do beat records, and the lack of physics gave everyone the opportunity to do crazy and unreal things. Suzuka now will be really fun.

I think Gran turismo would benefit from offering just an extra camera angle that is more dramatic and not as fixed on the car. Would be more immersive for casual players but wouldnt negatively impact the game since it's just a camera angle

I just noticed something about the difficulty selection screen at 17:31. Even the hardest setting only has 2 of the 3 pepper icons filled out. Maybe that's a hint that they are planning to add one more setting later on, maybe based on that experimental AI that you talked about in a previous video.

The main thing I want to know: do the trees still pop in at the end of the starting straight at Monza? (Also, trees in general: Screenshot comparisons with GT Sport show that tree shapes/placements are exactly the same in most tracks of GT7, which suggests the tracks aren't completely remodelled. Still, GT Sport was known for having the best trees anyway). Yeah this comment is about trees.

it's important to note for players who might be new to the GT franchise or maybe haven't played one in a very long time, Polyphony did a good job supporting GT Sport through its lifetime, whether it was patching problems, graphics improvements, new cars, new tracks, etc. I'm sure GT7 will be the same, probably even moreso.

I got to play for about an hour on a PS4 (regular) and a 15 year old flat screen. Load times are a little long. In a couple instances I thought it froze but just be patient. While racing there were no glitches and the frame rate appeared smooth. I can't imagine what this looks/plays like on a PS5 with a 4k TV.. It looks amazing on my outdated setup. I have been playing this game since the first release, I didn't buy 6 because I am more of a campaign player than online. Glad to see 7 brought back this mode. I need work to be over so I can get back to it.

As a person who only played casually on PS1 and PS2 for Gran Turismo. (Very young Kid). Coming back to play as an adult it’s super fun and not over challenging. It’s a perfect mix of a challenge and fun, and the little details are so perfect. I’m very happy I took the risk and bought it. I’ve played for like 10 hours today lmao. Looks beautiful and plays great. The PS5 controller really adds a different layer of immersion. It’s a grind at times but in a good way, and the game gives you cars along the way so you are never really out of vehicles to use.

Great review. I downloaded onto PS4 and plays fine. Overall it's a great improvement over GT6. I would agree, the last license test is brutal. I passed the bronze no problem after watching the sample but getting good, my that will require patience.

Not particularly happy about having to tune for multiplayer. I loved GT Sport’s accessibility and that you didn’t have to sink lots of time into tuning to be competitive. BoP sorted that out for you and allowed for balanced, close racing.

Not everyone knows how to tune and it's quite complex, this isn't a generational thing I'd say a solid 95% of people wouldn't know how to do a race set up. Leave the tuning to iracing and ACC imo, GT7 should be more accessible and more driver focussed.

I know it will be incredible ! When using the controller, do not use the anolog stick to steer. You tap in steering input on the digital direction pad . GT 4 was the best. Did many 5 : 40 - 6 minutes with perfect race lines and apexes on Nuremberg Nordslief .

I haven't played Gran Turismo (or other racing games really) since GT4, I think. I'm excited to try again with GT7 and it sounds like it has a good single player mode. I was a bit disappointed to hear that the controller's rumble and haptic feedback weren't really huge improvements over the old system, but I guess it makes sense that a serious driver who's used to a wheel wouldn't care too much about them. Anyway, sounds like a fun game that can teach a casual player like me about some of the more simulation/realistic aspects of racing without going too far.

Man I wish they would release on PC at some point, I have a full setup for my PC that I am not sure would work with Playstation. Maybe it would It's not a logitech wheel so its a bit more custom. Anyways Sony has been a bit more open to the PC market lately so in my opinion they are just losing out on a whole ton of money that would come from the PC Market. So if they wake up at some point and see that maybe they will, I just miss playing GT. I had it on PS1 and 2 and was my main game for years.

I've been playing it on the PS4. I believe the biggest changes are not much graphic related but loading time related -- menus take somewhere between 5s and 30s to load sometimes. Most races take around 20s to 40s to load. Doing licenses isn't too slow - restarting the license takes almost no load time at all (yay!) but changing between licenses take ~20s or so (boo!). I don't feel like that's too bad, to be honest. I was expecting something a lot worse since the last GT I played was GT5 and that felt a lot more slower.

I'll separately add this though - even on PC via ds4windows - PS5's controller force feedback being fully separate depending on exactly where on the controller it needs to happen is a godsend. I can only imagine how proper it feels on an actual PS5 with PS5 games.

There is no engine swap, only "new engine" for 20k which brings your engine condition up to "excellent"

Kinda curious if they added a way to cheese money like you could in early games in the series by doing a repeatable race that would reward a car that sold for dumb amounts of money compared to how much effort it took to earn (eg: Toyota RSC RRC in GT4 or similar ones in GT2-3). Usually, GT games that made it a pain to earn money had cheese strats instead like that.

Try "Ride 4" if you're looking for better visuals than in GT7. I have both and i can tell you that Ride 4 is looking very realistic (but it shines only in replays, normal gameplay doesn't have Ray Tracing used and one great camera angle is also missing from use) for a racing game but it's a moto racing game.

It’s gran turismo so somewhere in there you will be able to set your car to autodrive and it completes a championship for you over an hour or so and you either win $1m each time or sell the winning car for $1m. That has been in every GT game

Just for clarity, the Ray Tracing mode does not apply to live racing. So when you're actually driving the cars, you'll get the same performance as frame rate mode. Digital Foundry just released a great video on this.

I miss the city tracks like Rome ,Madrid , Paris and other rally tracks with snow like Chamonix for example . The tracks are mostly those of GT sport with a handful of recreations of older ones and that is a bit disappointing . Only 2 things i'm worried about. Singleplayer being too much of a grind for purchasing cars (especially as IGN review mentioned you can purchase game currency with real money). 2nd thing being tuning for daily races. I really liked GT Sport because i didn't have to worry about that side of things. Now unless you have a decent tune, you'll probably be midpack no matter how good you drive.

I’ve been playing on a ps4 pro and a pretty good 4K LG tv and I can’t believe when I watch the replays that it’s a actual video game. It looks so good so I can just imagine how it would look with better software running it. I had one issue when the game got stuck loading but ether then that it runs very smooth and makes me ps run quiet which is a nice difference compared to when I play vanguard and it sounds like R2D2 is about to take off. Gt7 is very good and I do recommend it even if it’s on the ps4.

You're not going to race cars with really soft suspension. The rigid suspension keeps the car flatter, and keeps the wheels pinned. I don't have the game (yet) but I bet the lower end cars (Honda Fit, etc.) will have some of the roll that you're talking about.

I played GT2 and GT3 in the Ps/Ps2 era, and loved the RPG-element of the game, the struggling with bad cars, doing the licenses, buying and tuning better cars to be able to keep up with the higher leagues.. My only gripe is the lack of a clutch button. back in my forza days clutch kicking was how i drifted, its way more controllable than feathertapping the e brake. im sure its trivial though i bet i can replace that technique with the nitro button and be just fine.

I just hope that they introduce a seasonal event type for online like they had in GT5 & GT6. Those helped with earning money in a less repetitive way and gave the game more longevity

Thanks for the copious detail of the review SuperG! But what about damage modeling? I feel GT games are never good with realistic damage modeling which takes away a lot of the immersion for me. Is it the same here? Or do crashes result in a car that looks like what you'd expect after the impact? And then an extra question are there formula 1 cars in the game and how do they feel? Thanks!

I think you may have the ray tracing thing wrong. From what digital foundry said, when you turn on ray tracing mode, it only applies to the replays so nothing changes for gameplay.

Looks very nice but id still lile them to add damage and sounds like its moving away from simcade which is really good. Let's hope forza motorsport 8 does the same. If this dosent come to pc I'll have to get a ps5 and an new compatible wheel I suppose. Great review keep up the good work.

I like playing with the chase cam, but it is so rigid that it ruins the experience 🙁. The settings that are available do not really improve it. It feels like the track is turning around your car instead of the car turning.

Racing is always locked to prioritizing framerate with no-raytracing even with ray tracing mode turned on. Ray Tracing mode ONLY does ray tracing during replays, camera mode, etc.

Its decent. Mechanically its a great game, but I think it struggles to hold players attention. After the cafe menus (main missions) it kinda feels like there isn’t much to do. There is obviously more to do, such as licenses and missions, but single player racing is pretty limited. Sport and multiplayer are decent too. The big thing though is money, the money situation is still a mess. Theres a lot of grinding the same race over and over, but in sport mode (the meat of the game imo) has disgustingly low payouts.
