neat, I just put one in my cart last night (the 4 cell XTAR charger) didn't order it yet. and I watch this channel from time to time. I think I want more than 4 cells.

I'm goign to wait and see. New cell types with larger capacities often have been disappointing in the past and I'm not in a rush.

Interesting, I didn't even know that 4Ah 18650s existed, I thought the maximum was 3.5Ah? Will have to get one of those XTAR chargers to replace my older ones!

Nice. I could use these for a portable cooler project I'm working on, but they don't seem to be available in the US.

I got some 3.2 ah cell i find most of the amps are down at the low voltage rating so the power ,watts is pretty similar to 2.5ah cells

0.3A discharge will give higher capacity results. A test with 10x more (3A) would be much more interesting. Is there any protection circuit on the cells? I have dumb flashlights that rely on the cells to avoid over discharge!

It shouldn't change much with those currents on lithium batteries

The 4000mAh have been out for a while under the Vapcell brand. Quite possible XTAR have just contracted them.

Does the power bank stay on if constantly being charged and used? I need a USB UPS like device to power a small processor PCB. edit: The web site says it has a auto cutoff to turn off charging. so I am going to guess it's like most power banks that will stop charging and then let the batteries run dead even if it is still getting power.

need to see them guts, why aren't there more 4ah batteries, did they just trade cycles for capacity

Those discharge 300mA figures make them useless for anything beyond a torch, but on their own website they state "10A" across the range, so I don't understand.

Normally a good current to test 18650s at is either 500mA or 1A. I test at the latter because most use cases for 18650s are high drain applications, and if the cell holds up OK at 1A then it should still be good to use. I don't see that many cells that hold up OK at 0.5A but fail at 1A, and most of those cells probably have little capacity remaining anyway.

Assuming you don't get the usual total garbage counterfeits which are rampant everywhere with Chinese 18650s to such an extent that people are buying removed laptop battery packs because a huge laptop OEM is going to get authentic cells directly from the manufacturer and even those old cells are better than the garbage counterfeits.

It is always worth salvaging batteries from any hardware battery pack, even cordless power tools. Quite often a 16v/24v power tool battery pack, for example, will often have only one or two dud cell that causes the whole battery pack to fail it's charge and all the others will be fine.

Not that hard when its a 4000mAh, just test the capacity, nothing counterfeit will be close to that.

I buy Aldi/Lidl tool batteries. It works out at about £3 a cell, and likewise the cells cannot be dangerously bad.

My Vape device has a low battery warning and quits working at 3.3V per cell, so using the 4000mAh Xtar cells wont give me much of an advantage over my Samsung 25R cells i assume?

Your vape would likely be better off with a 1.5 to 2Ah high current cell for power tools. The highest capacity cells get the higher capacity by using thinner metal in the electrodes so they won't have the peak current you need for a vape.
