I just got a pack of pretty standard rechargeable AAs on amazon for like my flashlights and such, so hearing this helps some cause it advances my very little knowledge about rechargeable batteries a lot

I have that charger and several other similar ones. My favorite is probably the Opus BT-C3400, it has additional functions. Another good charger if you have a lot of AA/AAA is the EBL C9008, which handles up to 8 batteries at a time. I like when the 18650+ chargers work well with AA/AAA. We power most things from rechargeable batteries as well, but some things really were not designed for the slightly lower voltages/etc so we do keep plenty of alkaline around. I have been thinking about designing a circuit that basically uses a joule thief to fully empty batteries and to use that power to charge rechargeable ones. I use a fair amount of CR123's for example and I swap them out well before they are dead due to the voltage drop (sag). That circuit would let me basically transfer the energy from the used batteries into the rechargeables so it doesn't go to waste. Hospitals throw out a ton of 9V batteries as well, or they used to, when they swap them on equipment daily... they could also be used as the input source in that circuit.

Have you seen the Xtar vx4? Takes a usb c to usb c 20w pd input and covers a large range of batteries.

That might be a better option than what I have here. If I can save up some money I might buy that version and do a comparison.

I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I keep thinking about getting one of the newer versions of the Lucy Light just because I like the old one so much. The problem is the old one I have still works perfectly fine. So there really is no point in buying another one. Having two might be nice in a power outage, so maybe I could justify it.
