No everything and anything by this wonderful band is worth listening to. Old videos, out takes , stuff about them, great. Rather more than a minor tragedy that they are no longer. But as some one once said "This world is a comedy to those who think and a tragedy to those who feel." And we have to feel a lot for the individual members of this ill-fated band.
@bonzodog68726 жыл бұрын
Joseph Bailey how were they ill fated? they had a 30 year career
@josephbailey42496 жыл бұрын
Well I don't believe that even their most socialist -minded fan would begrudge them a comfortable retirement. We all know that they got a massively bad record from that hippy capitalist who shall remain nameless and had far less commercial success than they deserved and should have attained. And then there is the small matter of Andy's stage fright which prevented them from being a touring band just when there was money to made through the stadiums and other venues. That is why I think them ill-fated not in their brilliant musical career but in that they never got the international fame and success the richly deserved.

I had the rare pleasure of seeing them live at The Painter's Mill Music Hall/Fair in Maryland during the U.S. tour. It was rare because it was a grand treat, I won tickets from off the radio. They were there with a few other good bands, like a packaged tour. I also won tickets to see "The Teardrop Explodes," and they were awesome live. I won tickets to shows and merchandise by being the 3rd, 9th or 13th caller. The early 80s were great for New Wave, Prog, New Age and musical gear technology. XTC is one of my top favorite bands and this song is in my top 5 favorite XTC songs. I have the "This is Pop" documentary.
@SLB45233 жыл бұрын
Split enz for sure. I spent a lot of time tripping to the Enz’s first two albums, and when music shines on acid, it shines. XTC came a little later, and it shines. Have you ever listened to Barry Andrew’s ‘Shriekback’? Oil and Gold, one of the most marvellous albums ever made. What was in the water these kids grew up with?

The Disappointed (Lyrics) XTC (Band) The disappointed All shuffle round in circles Their placards look the same With a picture and a name Of the ones who broke their hearts The disappointed All congregate at my house Their voices sob with grief That they want to be chief Of the tribe with broken hearts Once, I had no sympathy For those destroyed and thrown away by love Seems your ring upon my finger Signifies that I've become the spokesman of... The disappointed Will bear me on their shoulders To a secret shadow land Where a sombre marching band Plays a tune for broken hearts And day grows darker now Everywhere, everywhere The disappointed Are coming in their millions They're spilling from the bus At a monument to us Made of bits of broken heart Once, I had no sympathy For those destroyed and thrown away by love Seems your ring upon my finger Signifies that I've become the spokesman of... The disappointed Are growing every second They blot the sun to black At the bottom of the pack I'm the king of broken hearts The disappointed (10x) Composer: Andy Partridge

I may be one of the few people on here that actually enjoyed the video version. I thought that it was tastefully done and a good concept. It was to me some Medieval-Renaissance Flemish artwork going on, with Andy as some Grand Inquisitor judging the Disappointed. I guess I look for the art in a lot of things. Or I found it more interesting than watching the 200th hair mental band stage videos.

It only took Partridge a few years to get near to Beatles+level understanding of chording , melody etc . Pity his personal problems held them back but fans & musos appreciate the brilliance . Although that comment about Moulding's bass rivalling McCartney is just fantasy .
