Thank you for the video, very helpful! I had to do this job to replace some cheap no-brand someone put in before me. Since you're going through all this trouble - spend the extra money and get a quality one like a Nissan OEM or a HITACHI KNS0003 so you don't have to do it again.

Good job. your saving money and learning many things that will help in the future. you will make mistakes, break connector clips, move your harness around till it looks like the picture you took at the beginning. When you are done you will say" well that wasn't that hard". I did it and now I think I can do it in an hour, because of what I learned. I would like to mention that I took a vacuum on the engine first to see if it was worth the sensor repair, and I had a steady 20 inches and went on with the job. Go for it. Let us know how it feels when you crank it up.

Great tutorial. Professional mechanics always make it look easy but it is not. I just did this on my 04 X and it took me two days but now that I've done it once, Im confident that I could do it in less than 4 hours. Long needle nose pliers with a bent end are really helpful. Careful of the wire connectors as they are brittle. Take before pictures to help remember where everything goes.

I wish I saw this video as I just finish replacing fuel injectors on my 99 Pathfinder with the same engine (288K miles). Did it on my spare time and took my time to complete in 3 months. Sometimes DIY is not cost saving as my hourly rate came out to less than a dollar an hour, but it was a good learning experience and my Path runs like new as it did when I drove out of the showroom 19 years ago. Thanks for the great video.

Excellent Excellent video. You made it look easy. I have been dreading this job. I relocated my knock sensor to the top of the manifold and it works good, but i know its not the correct way to do it. My vehicle has 360,000 miles and still runs good. If I ever decide to go this route, i will definitely be watching your video again. You can also replace the valve cover gasket’s while your already there. I would also replace any hoses , or vacuum lines while your there. It an insane about of alot of work to get in there.

I was fighting that small hose. i had replaced it before when i did the timing belt and water pump. i just saw how you removed the hose bracket, and when you lifted the lower intake the hose came off. i will try that. i have already removed the top hose bracket. great video !!! i have one stubborn ellen bolt in the back that doesn't want to budge. i have been soaking it in PB blaster. hopefully i can get it loose and it doesn't break on me. all the other bolts came loose. do you think, its safe to heat it alittle with a torch to try and break it loose. just because, the intake is not steal. i am alittle weary to do that. but that bolt needs to come off, one way or another. if it breaks, then i have to drill it out, which is a pain. any suggestions are welcomed thanks

Currently trying to do this myself. I can't take the lower intake off no matter what. I believe it's being held down by a corroded stud. What I didn't do yet is remove the hose held by the clamp that's right under the belt but I don't think that's what holding it in place, is it? I removed the clamp but the hose is simply stuck to the metal

@FlatRateMechanic
@FlatRateMechanic 5 жыл бұрын
It needs to be on the engine block to work correctly. You can not move it to the intake and still have it do its job. The engine light will stay out but it will not be doing anything. That's just a workaround for people that don't have the means of pully the intake off.

It chug alugs, has no power and shakes when accelorating... I purchased a code reader and it says (knock bank 1) So does this mean that i need a new knock sensor, or is there something else bad thats causing it to read knock sensor? Thats the only code that shows up.

My local AutoZone store has the Fel-Pro MS92270-4 intake manifold gasket set (upper and lower manifold gaskets) in stock for $67. I don't know if the lower gaskets are made of metal or rubber though. There are also cheaper brands. The Fel-Pro web site has a product selector guide which also shows where you can buy their products.

@Pr0ph3cy-k5z
@Pr0ph3cy-k5z 3 жыл бұрын
The knock sensor has nothing to do with a random misfire code. Bad distributor, blown head gasket. Are you losing coolant? You can easily test the resistance to your knock sensor at the harness on top of the engine that crosses over the upper rad hose/coolant tube. If memory serves me right, it is pin #8 on the harness. You'll need to find a wiring diagram. Once you locate the connector, it has 8 wires on it. The thickest wire is the knock sensor wire.

@Pr0ph3cy-k5z
@Pr0ph3cy-k5z 3 жыл бұрын
A knock sensor will not cause transmission issues regarding shifting. Ironically on this engine, the TPS sensor going bad will. It's likely your shift solenoids which are located inside the transmission pan and valve body. Not difficult to change out. Patience and time and take pictures of EVERYTHING you remove. It took me 7 hours to change mine out on a 01 frontier 3.3 with no transmission experience.

What was the reason for removing the throttle body from the upper intake? Also, i suggest finding a wrench to wedge in the uninstall the EGR pipe. That was there is nothing else to dismantle from the upper intake. I can remove my upper intake in about 15 minutes. Also, if you plan on working on your engine often, I recommend the coolant bypass. This makes it a 10 minute job.

It about 5 hrs labor. So at a shop, your looking at about 600$ probably.

It depends on your area. In my area, shops charge anywhere from $60 an hour to $100 an hour shop rate. Firestone charges $100 an hour in my area. The small independant shops charge $60-65 an hour. I'm in Tennessee.

Too bad I didn't see this. Coolant all over the place from the plenum. Probably filled the intake. Also on my Xterra the thermostat housing is connected to the lower plenum. Friggin nightmare.

Filled the cylinders with coolant. You should maybe make that really clear at the beginning of the video

Buy several different colors of paint markers or bright fingernail polish colors and mark each part to the part that it belongs too. I do this often, especially for intake manifold jobs. It makes life soooo much easier. White, orange, blue, yellow, green, red, pink, etc. I put a dot on each part. Bolts, hoses, connectors. I also keep everything together in the order I remove them.

I am a female And have learned to changed some parts and how to work in my own Nissan Xterra 2004 I have changed on my own oil and filter, wires and spark plugs, router and distributor Gas filter and I did the fuel pump with someone else and now I'm having PO328 wish is the nock sensor I've been having it for a while I recently changed the clutch engine fan as well but I know that this knock sensor is under the engine and it's driving me crazy and I thought about doing it maybe with someone else because two heads thinks better than one when it comes to do a big job like that and also painting in different colors the connectors and screws and take pic so I remember putting back everything I would love to have someone that can do it with me Thanks to all the great mechanic here in you tube I have learned to take care of my car
