The judges literally said yes only because he was "likeable" and that's not exactly a good way to choose someone off. Niall has definetly improved though so perhaps this is what motivated him to improve.

So what, just because he auditioned at 16 doesn't mean you have to wait until you're exactly 16, there are 5 year olds who go on this show and kill, if it's something you really want to do you just have to do it and don't doubt yourself. You're 14 years old, you're still young and have a lot of time to think about what you want to do and even more time to take action and do what you want to do, don't hold yourself back through doubt and just do it. Worst comes to worst you audition, receive harsh feedback and get booed off of the stage or whatever. You can still take that as a learning experience to help yourself grow. Hope this comment helped you think about things a little bit.
