IMHO Song Lan is Xingchen's lifelong friend but his true love/soul mate will always be Xue Yang, however problematic that may be. If Song Lan had never come to Yi City then XueXiao might have had a chance to live happily ever after. Xue Yang would've made Xingchen laugh and play while Xingchen healed his A-Yang's broken soul. That's why this story is so tragic! Such wasted potential.

It's been years yet I feel pity for this couple, if only Xue Yang did little less terrible things if he even stopped doing such nasty things after meeting Xing Chen when was blind, things might have been different but yet this all are just a 'if' deep down we all knew they were the opposite pole in ideology and could never be together even if they have to be apart by death.
