i use my riptide with heavy burst cannon, sms, advanced targeting and target lock. i pair him up with my commander in enforcer armor, quad cyclic ion blaster, vectored maneuvering thrusters and ghost walks among us, 2 shield drones. to that i add a squad of 4 shield drones. either they are in a good firing position to anihilate something, or they move up. branched nova charge is mandatory. if a valid target is visible and in range, i use the commanders master of war ability for rerolling hits and activate command and control node + some markerlights. that takes care of more or less any high priority target, after that, the duo moves in and cleans up the lesser stuff.

Thanks for the videos. I am new to the hobby, and I am picking Tau mainly for the models and having fun putting them together and painting. But I am glad to know I might have a viable army with units I think are cool.

My current list has 3 riptides w/BC FB ATS & TL, two Cold stars with BC and SG. They are backed up by sec'ca vanguard with 3markesmen, VX84, sniper drones and two T'au sept battalions (3x5 pluses rifles) one with an ethereal, fire blade and the with 2 fire blades. I send two too zip out with cold stars on opposite sides and have the 3rd stay with the FW's to slowly March up to objectives. With the average movement of 19" on the tides allow me to have a 3 highly mobile gun lines coupled with nova core and TUD on one and the other using command and control module helps negate the problem with static gun lines

Wait a second... You like the Heavy Burst Canon on the Riptide - Str 6, and will usually fire at AP -2 due to Advanced Targeting System. You don't like Plasma Rifles on Crisis Suits though - also Str 6, but is naturally AP -3...and let's face it, no one wastes a weapon slot on a Crisis Suit on anything but a weapon so it'll stay AP -3. Crisis Suit Plasma Guns will get to fire twice on the turn they drop in, and while you can't land within 9 inches to make the most out of a Fusion Blaster, you can land within 12 inches to make the most out of a Plasma Rifle. You'll get 18 Str 6, AP -3 shots out of 3 Crisis Suits when they drop, hopefully with marker light support, and hopefully with a lil' benefit from Shadowsun, in which case double that. You can delete a lot of stuff with this kind of firepower. I've had more than a bit of success with this layout, but I haven't done a live comparison with Fusion TBH. My thing is...they're Crisis Suits. It's pretty likely they're gonna be one of the best targets on the board after they drop and murderize someone (oh how I miss jump shoot jump). Since the difference between losing a squad of Crisis Suits equipped with Fusion Blasters and a squad of Crisis suits equipped with Plasma Rifles is not inconsiderable I sorta think Plasma is...maybe the better option for a squad of large, hard to hide dudes that have to be within 'reach out and touch' distance to put in work and will likely die glorious deaths for the Greater Good within 3 turns (although technically they can fight out to 24 inches, you wanna be within 12 for the extra Rapid Fire shot the Plasma Gun offers). For comparison, a standard loadout Riptide (Heavy Burst Cannon, 2x Smart Missiles, Target Lock and Advanced Targeting System) is just shy of 300 star coins. Three Crisis Suits w/ 3x Plasma Rifles each is a fistful of Oolongs more than 160 star coins (one suit in Iridium Armor). The same squad equipped with Fusion Blaster is 90 points more. For 12 points more than the cost of 3 Fusion Suits, you could be dropping 5, count 'em*five*Plasma Suits... And they would still be cheaper than standard loadout Riptide, and have one more wound than the Riptide collectively (spread out over 5 bodies), and now fires 30, count 'em*thirty*Plasma Rifle shots on the turn it drops. Add Shadowsun Kauyon support and nothing survives, for a pretty reasonable price, and this squad is a bit more resilient as well. ...My point is that Plasma Rifles are a more cost effective weapon choice for Crisis Suits than Fusion Blasters when you take the Crisis Suit's mission into consideration - drop on the turn Shadowsun calls Kauyon, shoot the crap out of something, and die fighting shortly thereafter. Hopefully. It's extremely likely that your suits are gonna get shot so hard they'll friggin' levitate on your opponents follow-up turn, and with this in mind I think Plasma outfitted Crisis Suits are an attractive cost effective option. Properly used, 5 Crisis Suits should absolutely make MORE than their points back. When they turn a Primarch to atoms, it's a beautiful thing. They can also kill most Knights with ease. Since I bring Shadowsun AND 2 Farsight Marksmen, 7 Pathfinders and 7 markerlights with my Fire Warrior Shas'ui's (cuz 3 point Markerlights!) and Cadre Fireblade, I'll ideally have both Kauyon and 5 Markerlights up on my target, almost always on a Knight The power to END your opponents most Uber Expensive and/or Sooper Important Lynchpin unit almost immediately makes this squad of Crisis Suits very scary indeed. Not fer nuthin,' but I'd watch a video discussing the pros and cons of various loadouts on all the suits. Some people take the Heavy Rail Rifle on Broadsides, or the Ion Accelerator on a Riptide because they're only high strength, low AP, long range weapons Tau have on anything that's not a vehicle so they fill an important niche in the army, y'know? The Riptide can add Fusion Blaster to make it effective against armor at any range, the Broadsides might wanna add Burst Cannons for some anti infantry capability? I think Tau Suits can be kitted out to do a variety of jobs, and the optimal config is gonna depend on what you need a unit to do and what you need it to shoot at. Does the unit hang out in the back and cover a group of Stealth Suits that will be advancing from an infiltration spot on turn 1 in order to knock placeholder troops off flank objectives? A Missileside with Velocity Tracker is ideal for this, and a Coldstar Commander with 4 Airburst Fragmentation Projectors and Vectored Retro Thrusters is a wonderfully survivable backfield character assassin come mid game. Different Suits, different jobs, different loadouts...it would make a fine topic for a video...just sayin.' Thumbs up for this in the meantime. Thanks man keep preaching the Greater Good.

HBC < Ion Accelerator I find the tau have a problem with long range high strength weapons and I say that because here's my thoughts I'm not wasting points by having broadsides with railguns or wasting points on a hammerhead either a few high damage shots are unsavable most often than not because of no invulnerable saves and long story short things I target with a HBC is either overkill or tickles infantry can take out other infantry and with the meta shift people are playing more titans or the adeptus mechanicus or heavy tank teams so that's where I see the ion Accelerator is a better option
@ragingtempestus65665 жыл бұрын
I totally agree, when ever I've played against Tau (IG myself), they've only won if the long range has deleted at least one unit a turn. If they can't then I roll up with three/four mordian russes and a tank commander. Tau is great, but with people like guard using more tanks, the burst cannon doesn't really cut it.
@J.Panxer5 жыл бұрын
Then magnetize the weapon systems and swap out when needed. The problem I have with the HBC is Necrons. They basically laugh at it, or it kills destroyers, and they just get up anyway.
@letsgobrandon69924 жыл бұрын
Question, can I make an army of only riptides and broadsides? Haha I want to get back into 40k used to have a great necron army, but thinking want to go tau and well I only enjoy the way their mechs look riptide, broadside mainly.

I agree that with the current pointcost, the Riptide is better than the Y'Vhara. One thing however to keep in mind is that the Y'Vhara murders the hated Eldar flyers that most T'au lists pretty much auto-lose against. The Y'tide needs a point reduction of like 50 - 70 points to truely be a viable choice. What would you suggest as chances to the Y'Vhara to make it at the very least playable in competitive.
@InvasiveWargaming5 жыл бұрын
Murders is putting it lightly. I had a 2x Yvahra list that tabled a Eldar Flyer list in a single round of overwatch. It was glorious.

For me it's ALWAYS the Nova shield as a priority. 50% increase doesn't mean much if the unit dies lol

I run 2 riptides. Both get the Nova shield and 1 gets Branched into getting Nova Charge as well
@codypannell94635 жыл бұрын
The reason for this is to keep the unit alive. It's forces the opponent to often times overthink it like oh man if it has a 3++ is it even worth shooting at now?! It also nullifies the units that they have meant to take it out making the big AP modifiers worthless.

Y'vahra is a stable in my list as well but he's only effective against inexperienced players. More experienced players will know how to abuse his short range and the drones' inability to keep up with him due to his insane speed. Not to mention that he always needs to be accompanied by a Coldstar to give him C&CN. Riptides push out way less damage but it has better sustain which gives them much better life span comparing a Y'vahra.
@reddragon5430415 жыл бұрын
@@duerf5826 I disagree. Borkan gives him the extra 6 inches on his flamer I use him to screen for my line and create a for the greater good bubble around him. Move him out and hit a high value Target with his speed than pull back to support on the flanks. I've used it successfully against orks, dark eldar, necrons, and custodes
