I can totally understand why they make such good cafe racers.

Cool build so far, and thank you for the carb explanation details on troubleshooting and how they work in general. I need to learn this stuff. Look forward to your future videos!

Stock Carbs on the Virago are absolute garbage and a complete nightmare to work on (lots of small ports that clog, impossible to tune well). I spent two years diagnosing mine for various problems and finally just replaced them with a 750/920 Mikuni VM34 carb kit from Niche Cycle Supply. IT WAS LIFE CHANGING. It fired right up without any issues and required only minor tuning.

I've got an 81' and a very similar story! Picked her up last year, swapped front ends, picked up mikuni carbs, mo.unit finally showed up in december and im mid kitchen reno now...your instructions on the CTI and coils were awesome and if you end up doin the mo unit controller, pleaseeee do a stupid simple break down of everything. Great work so far and please keep it goin!

I will do a detailed video on how I wire everything up, but I probably will not do a controller like an M-Unit at least at first. I haven't quite gotten that far though. I'm planning on rewiring pretty much everything from scratch though so it will be detailed.

I'm also building with Mikuni's. Where did you get a throttle cable?
@cammains53222 жыл бұрын
@@akaheavymetal2542 it came with the carbs as a kit and it lines up well. There's a y at the end of it. Cognitomoto's site!

13:39 There's an easier way to find the centers. Measure from the outside of one hole to the inside of the other. That's a direct measurement of the center-to-center points.

You didn't have an air vent in the temporary plastic fuel bottle. Fuel can't flow coz a partial vacuum builds up in the upside down bottle above the fuel.

Thank you for your wonderful video.In Japan, I am also customizing the 81-year XV750.I have a question, but it seems that the tires with a width of 150 are installed on the rear.Is the center of the vehicle body and the tires out of alignment?
@bewimpy3392 Жыл бұрын
I used a later model swingarm to fit the wider tire.

Very similar story, bought my XV in 2017 and worked on it 10 mins at time and now I’m doing wiring. Hoping to try and start it for the first time in 5 years. You mentioned you oiled the cylinders before starting, how did you do that? I probably should do the same. Nice video! Looking forward to the next one.

Whenever I have something sitting for a long time I get worried about water (mostly from condensation) maybe gumming things up, so I usually take the spark plugs out and squirt a little oil (or WD40, or PB Blaster) in there, let it sit for a while, and then turn it over again just a crank or two with the starter (still with the spark plugs out, if you fill the cylinders and turn it over with the plugs in the fluid will not have anywhere to go and could hurt something). Turn it over with the plugs out but put a rag over the holes because it will spray out and make a mess. Then I change the oil to fresh before a first real fire-up.

Check out "Steve’s DIYs" on youtube for lots of info on XV 750 Viragos. Especially that starter. If it hasn't yet, it will soon give you issues. The early gens were notorious for it. Steve has found a fix for them.
